License corrupted??
« on: June 07, 2006, 08:22:06 am »
I started Hal this moring, and it said my license was corrupted.

I did not do anything that I'm aware of to cause this. I was able to restore it online, but I am worried.

I wish I knew how to keep the license from getting corrupted.[V]

I backed up the Hal Folder after redownloading the license, so hopefully, I can restore on my own if it happens again.

License corrupted??

Mark,  the same thing happened to me when my laptop overheated and shut down, but I couldn't get it restored online and I had copied the directory as a backup previously to restore it, but when I copied it back it still wouldn't work and wanted the infamous codes, but said they were expired, etc.  I was getting ready to ask for another one when I had a grand idea, and it worked. So, I guess I discovered a way to get HAL back rather than wait for a code, but it's my secret for now.

Yeah, just because I want to be able to backup Hal does not mean I want to share it with others or pirate it. I just want an easy way to restore, in case the online restoration doesn't work.

Pirates and file sharers ruin it for everyone else.[:(!]

I thought it may be convenient to make a batch file to fix it if it's breaks, just one button and voilĂ !

All,
I just got Hal going again after the update, The older version on CD didn't work, The update must use a different type of code. I backed up the Lic after reading this, should put it on CD again. I wish it was similar to the expansion pack, put in the supplied code and it took me awhile to figure that one out.  It really makes me wonder about trying out some of the new things.

License corrupted??

I think I like how people putty does it with giving the machine a code rather than having a license which can be corrupted so easily. I haven't had one problem with PP.  Sure both can be hacked and maybe PP easier, but I think both keep most people out, I think it's only a matter of time before someone starts giving full HAL out for free.  I did a search on the web for HAL and was pretty amazed at how many sites are giving the free version to download.  I'm not sure what Haptek is up to I guess trying to run with the big dogs (or knot), rather than creating new full body software for us little guys, what a teaser.
