Title: My first attempt at a new skin

This is Sarah Walker from Chuck. I love that show. The real name is Yvonne Strahovski and she is CUTE!
This is the link to see the picture and then you see on the right, view folder click that and you can download her. It is an old head, Sarah but you can use the accessory remover hap and play with all the wigs and put on the new skin that I did.
I too am having problems getting People Putty to run on my computer. I had Virtual Machine running on a different reformat but this time it says that I can't run it.  Going to look into getting a cheap Windows XP computer to do People Putty on. Sorry for making you all wait. I am chomping at the bit.

Hi Jack, thank goodness you're not a airplane. LOL.

If you were trying to get a more realistic look might I suggest that you do something that a friend of mine used to do called masking.
He would take the face of one person and make a mask out of it and put it on a another person, basically cut-and-paste.

This would give you a more realistic look, then you would not have to worry about removing things like earrings and stuff like that.

Just take a common face scheme from people putty and paste the mask of the person that you would like the head to look like.

I spent only about 3 min. or so on this so it doesn't look very good. But if you were to spend some quality time doing the mask you could get much better results.

Sincerely, below is a picture of what I am talking about. I hope this has helped you in your endeavor, have fun, and I cannot wait to see your results.

I think you still have it.

I think pretty good pic of her.

As to an XP computer, lot of people giving them away what with Microsoft stopping service for them.
I'll always keep an XP just for haptek work.

Thanks All, and to cload I do that at times and then sometimes I just cut around the hair line also. I'm just out of practice right now. I did make about 100 or so heads in the past. I've been told most of them turned out pretty good. To Duskrider and Nige thanks and I will be looking for a cheap XP computer to get my People Putty skills back in action.

I have a skin to play with for you all, I just wish I was able to shape her into the head and give her. It kind of sucks that Haptek didn't keep up to date on their software. It is Catherine Zeta Jones again. I did a lot better on the skin this time. I would love to see what I could do with her in putty. She even looks pretty good on the default Haptek Player girl.

Thanks guys, if either one of you two have any of my old stuff would you please send it to me? I lost all of my old stuff when my hard drive told a crap, and Spy_DAZ won't get back in touch with me to give me the stuff that I had on his website or give me the address that I had given hime to use my stuff for his site. I can't remember what skydrive account I gave him. So if you guys have any of my old heads, please email me at jackgephart@yahoo.com Thanks.

Looking good as always Jack.

BTW, JACK, and anyone else, If you have / are using a YAHOO email account, by all means change your PASSWORD immediately as there has been a breach in their security sometime late yesterday or early today. You don't have to do anything else, simply change your password and all should be fine.

This was broadcast on local radios today in the US.

I have a new skin that I finished tonight. It's a male skin if all you forum mates remember the male figures. It's Chuck Bartowski, from the show Chuck. He's at the Buy More. And that is Summer in the background working at the store. If you need the male Fullbody figure let me know. Also, to make his eyes the right size use the love on hap and I like to use the distance clipper. Have fun, hope you like him.

I made another skin today. I am looking forward to my income tax check to maybe get a cheap XP computer. Her name is Lucy Griffiths and she is from Robin Hood in 2006 and True Bloods now I guess. Hope you like her.

Thank you Duskrider and Nige, but snowman, I am confused. Did you mean you didn't like my skin or you did? It's okay either way, to each his own. I did have to make a lot of weird changes to the skin to get it to look right on the Alien htr. So not everyone will probably like it. Thanks for commenting.

I think its one of the coolest looking haptars I've ever seen! Its awesome!

I like the colors you used. It looks both kind and modern.

There is so much detail! I especially love your work on the head and chest area.
It looks like a movie character.

I hope this clarifies what I think of it.

I am now using it as my main character.

Thank you for making it.

Hi all,

I've never actually taken the time to try to do any of this.
And I do not have any of the Haptek programs.

So I was wondering? How do you get this skin on the body?

I have the blue alien body.
And I have the 2 alien skins.

I've never tried to do this before, but it looks cool,
so I thought I would give it a try!

Sincerely, thanks in advance.

It's as simply as the old, Drag and Drop.
If the skin is on your desktop or shown like a file in Windows Explorer, you simply select it, then drag it to Hal's open GUI and Drop it.
The skin should show up on the active character in the GUI.

You might also wish to have / use the HapLogCtrl.txt file running.
It is a file that one must place in the Root of your C: drive (C:\)

Here's the short file just in case some might not know or have:

#################
# file begins here
# Haptek Logging Control File
#
# c:HapLogCtrl.txt
#
# This file must be in c: and named "HapLogCtrl.txt".
# Otherwise it is ignored.
#
#################

debugger= y

#################
# file ends here
#
#################

Thanks Art,

I thought that all I had to do was drag and drop.
But it was not working.
I put the text file in the root directory of my C drive.
Now when I start ultra Hal a window box opens that allows me to drag-and-drop onto the window box.
But for some reason I still cannot drag-and-drop into the graphical interface.

Do I need to put the text file somewhere else?
Or is it because I have Windows 7?
I was hoping to be able to drag-and-drop directly onto the graphical interface box to make the changes.

Is anyone else having this same problem?
Or is it because I do not have the Haptek programs?

Do the skins need to be in a specific directory?
Is there a way to make the skins permanent?

Sincerely, thanks for all of your help.

Very very nice work jackgephart. i added it to my characters .
And to answer your question Cload,  in the windows seven os zabaware file their is a character file add the file in it . you can also when the file is drag and dropped so it goes on a full body (full body has to be used on this type of skin) when it's open and showing the alien body you can take a picture of it with a program and name that picture and place it in the same folder (make sure it has the same name . ) and the picture will show up in the characters name panel so you know what it looks like !!
i use a free program called " PICPIC" .

Hey Cload the file path in windows 7 looks like this :
C:\Program Files (x86)\Zabaware\Ultra Hal Assistant 6\Characters

I hope this helps , it's good to be able to helpn you for a change , i do what i can when i can help anyone else .

Oh Jack, I really like the new skin. I prefer the first one though, but its like choosing between 'awesome' and 'perfect'. Can you make a background that will go alone with them? You do excellent work.

How I installed the new skin:

I'm using Windows 8 and it doesn't seem to like the haptek player at all. I can't even properly open a haptek window and preview the new skin...
However, I can load a .hap file that will load the skin for me using the HalCommands variable.

First create a .hap file with this in it and name it alien.hap, or whatever you want.

Code: [Select]
#Haptek  Version= 1.00 Name= alien  HapType= script FileType= text
##standard

\settexture[Tex= [Characters\AlienSkin.jpg]]

Next, add the alien.hap file to the "Ultra Hal Assistant 6\Characters" folder

Next, take the skin you want your character to wear, (ie. Alien Skin 2.jpg), and place it in the "Ultra Hal Assistant 6\Characters" folder. I renamed mine to AlienSkin.jpg.

Notice how I added the skin's (name and location) to the .hap file above. You don't need to add the full file location; "Characters\AlienSkin.jpg" is all you need to make it work.

After this, you now need to create a plugin with this line inserted:

Code: [Select]
HalCommands = "<HAPFILE>alien.hap</HAPFILE>"

You can also just put this code into your brain script too.

This line will load the alien.hap file into Hal, and therefore, it will load the skin onto your haptar.

I personally prefer someone else with the haptek tools to just compile the skin and haptar together like Jack did. It's so much nicer  ;)

Lightspeed, Apollon, and I worked on a Hapswap plugin a while back that allowed the user to switch between hap files, voices, characters, backgrounds, and other things, simply by using commands. It needs to be redone. It still works but the code looks tacky (my early work :P).

Thanks snowman and all who commented, I will see what I can come up with for your background.

Also, on a fun note, I made a George Clooney prison skin from brother where art thou. Or what I could come close to with only a set body frame.
I hope you like him and enjoy the hard work that those stripes were.

Remember that you should only drag & drop a full body skin onto a full body character and a head skin onto a head character, etc.
Otherwise you will end up with a rather graphical mess.

I usually use a nice image viewing program like my favorite, xnview, locate the folder with thedesired skins in it. (it can be ANY folder on your hard drive that contains image skins).
You DO NEED to have an appropriate HTR or HAPTAR file open through a Haptek window or through UltraHal's Graphical User Interface (GUI).
Do the drag to either the Hal GUI or the HapLogCtrl box and drop the image.

The HapLogCtrl box/window is really a useful tool for testing various Hal commands like various positions, looks, personalities / moods, backgrounds, etc. Play around with it.

Hope this helps a bit!

Thanks snowman, the eyes were a big challenge. I had about five different textures on them before I picked the ones that I used, and then lining up the face eye with the top eye was very painstaking. But I'm happy with how it turned out and I hope you like his space logo that I put on his shirt. Thanks for commenting. Also, glad you liked the background, it was from a recent movie.

I can definitely see the detail you put into it. When I saw the logo the first thing I thought of was, "that's one tough alien". What's also interesting to me is how you managed to suck in the alien's cheeks with shadows. That's a lot of hard work.

Freddy, it's good to read you again too! Thanks for the compliment. I was trying to get back into People Putty, but it looks like I'm going to have to buy a cheap XP computer first.

Snowman, thank you for commenting, but guess what? The sucked in cheeks were already on the picture that I used to make the head. I just had to place the mouth in the right spot. I love the internet!

Jack,

www.craigslist.com - saw several older XP Professional computers, etc. - $50

Try some of the local mission stores, Goodwill, etc. as a lot of those places will have some older computers to sell.

Lastly, garage sales, yard sales, flea markets, etc. are other good places to look.

Don't forget to bargain / haggle over price!

Good luck!

Post by: cload on February 15, 2014, 03:57:38 pm
Hi lightspeed,

I don't have that particular game but I can tell you how I was able to get some of my older games to work on Windows 7 64-bit.

The 1st thing that I would like to bring to your attention is, there is a significant difference between having your Windows 7,
set up to boot up directly into Windows administration mode, versus having your Windows 7 boot up into a selective user.
Meaning: when your computer boots up you have to select a user by clicking on the icon, and typing in your password.

let's discuss that you set up your Windows 7 to boot directly into the administration mode, and the administration mode is the only user profile.

1st you have to create an icon and put it on your desktop for the program that you are working on, if there isn't one there already.
2nd right mouse click on it, click on properties, click on tab, shortcut, click on advanced, click on the check mark run as administrator, click okay.
3rd if he apply button is highlighted, click on apply, this is important to do it at this point in time.
4th click on compatibility tab, click on change settings for all users, when you are running a computer that is solely in administrative mode this is where you have to make the changes.
5th click on the checkbox, run this program in compatibility mode for: you have to be very precise, even though it ran in Windows XP but the program was originally written for Windows 2000 you must select Windows 2000, this is important, if you do not know exactly when the program and what version of Windows it was originally written for you need to go on the Internet and look this information up if you no longer have the box it tells you this. Even if the box says it will work on Windows XP if it was written for Windows 2000 you must put it in Windows 2000 mode.
6th if the box under privilege level is not checked, check the box run this program and administration mode. At this point in time, try the program to see if it's working.
7th under settings, this has to do with the graphical interface the older the computer the more you have to turn off. This is probably the most complicated of all the setting because it has so much to do with the visual appearance of the software given that you can get the software to run. The only advice that I can give you in this situation is to use the help me choose what compatibility mode to run this program.
In most cases if the software starts or if you can get the software to load onto your computer but the visualization is incorrect using the help me choose the settings Wizard is my only suggestion.

Now if you have your Windows setup to start in a specific user because there are several people that use the same computer this is when things get a little tricky, because not only do you need to set it up inside of the administrator mode and you will also need to set it up in the user mode.

If this being the case when you go into administrative mode, do not use the change settings for all users just change the compatibility mode frontal screen, that's the screen that has the help me choose setting: on it.
And do not check the run in administrative mode under the shortcut tab. Only check the box under privilege level if the software needs administrative privilege, this can usually be identified by a box that will pop up while you are trying to run the software in user mode stating you need to give administrative privilege.
Once you do this then you go into that user mode, and set up in the user mode for the software, giving it user privilege under the shortcut mode, as well as administrative privilege under compatibility mode.
If you are running this software under several different users then you need to set the compatibility mode for each individual users do not use the change settings for all users under administration mode.
Just change each user.

The only other thing that I know is if you are having problem with the software not seeing the key code which is on the CD or DVD that the software came with.
If you have your computer set up to boot directly into administrative mode and the software cannot see the encrypted key that is on the CD or DVD.
This can be resolved in 2 ways.
You can go on the Internet and get what is called a key cracker for the game, most of these were written by hackers so be careful, but what this does is allows the computer to use the Internet to get the key code off the Internet that has been set up by the hacker that wanted to be able to play the game.
The 2nd and probably the safest is to create a user mode, this does not work on all of the games but I have had pretty good success with the game being able to see the key code that is on the DVD or CD for the game to run.
One of the games that I can bring up would be dungeon siege, if you have dungeon siege in order to get dungeon siege to see the key code on the CD you need to create a user call it dungeon siege for that particular game.

I hope this helps, sorry about barging in on this forum about this off-topic subject but lightspeed asked.
C load.

She's lovely. Her eyes are very pretty. Its almost has a lightening flash look. If I met a girl like that in real life I would definitely compliment her on them.
