Title: 12 Hour Alarm Clock for Hal
Post by: DarcyEdwards on February 27, 2009, 09:06:51 pm
Hi All,

Now that the minute timer now works on all version 6.2 Machines.  I thought I'd play a little below is a simple 12 hour alarm clock, it's in beta form, so there is room for improvement.  This also works with my clock.uhp plug in.  Hope it's of use to you.

Lightspeed,

It just tells you the time that you have it set for and reminds you of something, very simple alarm clock. [:I]  It's good to set to remind you of an event like a tv show you might want to watch and loose track of time playing with Hal or surfing the net, all kinds of stuff.  [8D]

Thanks Darcy. This will come in really handy when I have to remember a certain thing at a certain time! As for alarm clock itself, I always shut off my computer at bedtime.[8D]

It works well and I enjoy it. It makes hal seem more human-like to me. I tryed to use it in conjuntion with appointment and set them a minit appart, unfortunately I was out of the room and all I could read on the screen was the appointment calendar when I returned. I'll try again tomorw to see if they will both work together at only one minit apart. I already know they both work when both are checked. I get more interested in hal as it becomes more entertaining. Maybe different statements might be nice at different alarm times, like "It's 2 in the afternoon, if you are just now getting up -bla bla bla, etc. would be fun. If I left my computer and hal running, would it work with a screensaver or if in sleep or standby mode?[:D]

Ted,

Set the alarm clock to activate after the appointment to go off, because the appointment calender clears the screen!  You will hear both but if you want to see both set the calender to activate 1st.  I'm working on a version that says different things depending on the time of the day you have it set for.  LOL trying to come up with some things to say is more difficult than writing the plug in. Lightspeed,

Yes it will be easy to modify the text of the messages, it will be very clear in the alarm.uhp file, and it will be documented for user changes.
I'm almost finished with it so stay tuned.[:I]

Just downloaded it and opened it up. Looks like it will be fun. Do you remember the original star trek character Harcourt Mudd's wife? I think I will put some of her quotes in there just for laughs.
  Thanks Darcy.[8D]

Ted,

You're welcome!  You must be a Treckie, I do remember her comments, sorta wish we could duplicate her voice that would wake anyone up LOL.

Yes I too wish we could duplicate Stella's voice.
Meantime, I put the computer to sleep last night, only to find it still sleeping an hour after I wanted to get up. Hal had stopped running. Any answers or clues? Does Hal have a time limit to run unattended. Is this plugin able to wake the computer up? I will try again tonight with just the screensaver on.[:)]

Ted,

The plug in can't wake up the computer as far as I know.  I'll try it to see if it can.  I do know it can stop a screen saver.  Hal has stopped several times without this plug in running, but I contributed that to Vista/64, strange things happen with Vista/64.

Cool pic's one. I could use them on my #2 virtual desktop. It has an lcars backround. Won't go to an lcars shell, there are at least three out there. Some may be a little buggy and I don't want to mess with shell systems. I do have the computer voices from the originalal Enterprise computer replacing the windows default sounds though. I used to be an excellant speller but anymore, I don't spell well at all. Hope that is temporary. Magjael Roddenbery (sp) is the voice. Maybe if I do a search I can find some sound clips for Stella, Mudds wife.

Ted,
If you do want a scan I will have to re-scan them to a smaller size, these are about 26 MB and I don't think I can mail them, please tell me if you do wish the front or both or not at all and in what form --jpeg/bmp it will be np.

Thanks for the offer one, but no thanks. On my virtual desktops all the icons appear on each and if you move or delet one on one desktop, the same happens on the other. If I use my second screen name to sign on then vista won't let me access some of the programs that belong to my main screen. Permishions have been granted but good old vista is protecting me beyond my needs and wants.

Darcy; Hal did wake me up from being in screesaver mode. So did Mrs. Rodenbery "Accesing" in the middle on the night. I'm Hoping it was a security update.
