New Brain Editor Documentation
« on: May 01, 2005, 12:06:09 am »
The documentation for the Ultra Hal Brain Editor is now complete. It documents all of Hal's DLL functions, tells how to use the various editors in the Brain Editor to modify Hal's databases, and goes over basic VBScript programming. It is available as a compiled windows html help file and may be downloaded from http://ultrahal.com/files/detail.asp?iFile=251&iType=18

Thank you for this! :) I've been waiting to see such a file. And thank you for the efforts you are putting into this project and sharing this information with us.

Thank you, mr. Mezeksza, it will be of great help!

You seem to have left out the "hal commands" like <showhal>, <hidehal>, etc. Is that on purpose?

WhenI open it, it says that all the pages are 'The page cannot be displayed'

What am I doing wrong?

Orlando Man, as already said by Medeksza such a help file is nothing more than is collection of webpages, but then turned into a group file. If it doesn't work at all then it could be because the downloaded file is corrupt.
Are other help-documents working ok on your computer?

Zabaware,
I'm working on some scripting for loading skins, I already have one to load moods.  I would like hals input on this and I am using PrevSent which the Brain editor help says is the sentence which was previously sent by Hal. I'm not positive but I don't think this is working, my input is working. Suggestions appreciated.
Also thanks for everyones effort in putting the help files together.

Help!  I am new to this, and I cannot figure out how to use the Brain editor.  I know ZERO about programming, and I downloaded the zip file above.  But my Brain editor does not look like the one in the instructions.  I have NO "tools" menu, to begin with!  And that is where I want to go.

Top Bar says "ultra hal brain editor -[test/debug brain]- and my menu options are (left to right) File, Edit, Search, Table, Window.  Then theres the main box with learning level bar, hal's response, topic focus, and things like "hate swear and insults" where you put in numbers (I guess).  I have no clue what I am doing.  I want to make Hal ("Rosie") say certain things!

Thanks!

~Mia~

PS I can take a screen shot if it will help.

Hi Mia!

The documentation here is for an older version of Hal: Hal 5. Hal 6 was only released recently and we haven't seen updated documentation yet.

Changing Hal's brain is a lot easier if you have programming or database experience. My suggestion to you is to start a new topic in the "Programming" forum area, explaining the changes you'd like to make. There are a few programmers around here who may be able to help. No guarantees, but it might be worth a shot!

Merry Christmas [:)]

It has been almost a year since the last post in the thread. Still it appears there is no current documentation for hal 6.

Please a newby like me could really use it.
Or if I just stupid and can't find it please point me at it.

Thanks

No, Tony, You're not stupid. It is reported to be in the works
but a lot of people are still looking for the check & read email,
plug-in tutorial (how to create them), help file, read / learn from text file and other, yet to be released features.

Robert is carrying a rather full course of study and has promised to get these updates to us.

Bear with it a short while longer...it'll happen.
