Running PeoplePutty... From the Future
« on: February 06, 2019, 11:14:31 pm »
Hey folks!
Would anybody still around be willing to share their PeoplePutty installer with me??
I can't seem to find one anywhere in this day and age.  : (

People Putty is no longer supported by Haptek, as you likely know and it does not run (as far as I know) on any OS higher than Windows XP, which is also no longer supported.

It was not configured to operate on 64 bit systems. I heard that someone sort of got it to run on a Vista machine (remember that lovely OS?) but that's doubtful.

I think Chris Shaw and his brother, Robert have both left the building!

Good luck!!

Thanks Art for your response!!

I actually have everything needed to run it - except a working copy of the software itself.
Scouring the Internet, Forums, FileShare sites, and even WayBackMachiene didn't provide any results.
So I just figured I'd try asking here to see if anyone was willing share what they had.

It is sad to see such a groovy piece of programming disappear through time,
but maybe someday A working copy will turn up.  :-D

I'd love to have a copy of it as well, to try my hand at creating some new 'heads' for my HAL :)

Couldn't one operate it on Win 7/8.1/10 through a virtual machine running XP?

Hmm...now THAT's a thought worth trying.

With all the time that has passed, it's doubtful that I would be able to locate my old copy of it, but I will have a look.

Their DEMO is still available online but I think it did not allow for saving any creations.

Surely there are a few people out there who still have a working version of it...???

explain to me how a copy of a program  people putty that's designed with only being allowed on one pc at a time by serial number and i believe something to do with the pc? serial numbers etc. registry keys etc. could be made to use on a virtual drive on another pc ?
I would like to understand this better how it works , how its done .
Thanks in advance .  :)

I'm not really sure that the "One PC only" thing applied to the People Putty Program. One would need to review their license agreement as it should be spelled out in there.

Usually one buys the license that comes with the program. If I own a license and only use one computer at a time and do not give it or sell it, then I really don't see any violation unless of course, the developer specifically determines otherwise.

The only way they could prevent it would be for the program to "check in" like many of them now do to determine if the software is a legitimate copy or not.

Since Haltek is pretty much a closed company at this point, I think it would be really difficult to get a hold of a License that spells out their terms and conditions. And...since they are closed/out-of-business, does it really matter?

All one has to do is TRY and see if it works!

Back when I first posted this, I hit up Chris Shaw to see if he had access to a copy I could purchase from him.
I gave him a brief back ground of myself and my interest in the program,
and we passed eMails for a bit.
We worked out a trade deal,
and he said he'd look into getting me a CD copy of PeoplePutty.

My is to see if I can get the full program running on multiple computers,
and then upload the working copy for everyone to have,
So we can breath some more life back into Hal's appearance!!

But Chris has since gone Dark,
and I haven't heard from him in a while.
(I'm hoping he's okay!)

I still SUPER want a copy of the legit program.
So if anyone has a copy they'd be willing to share,
please post it!
: D

And If I do ever hear back from Chirs,
I'll let ya'll know.
