thanks to you crunch for putting all this info up.

I'm new to this and it was a great help, this is a great set of programs and a lot of fun, but i wouldn't know where to start if it we're for the generosity of people like yourself.

I dabble with graphics so will have to put up a few skins as thanks in the future!

btw did anyone notice that you can pick the figure up with your mouse and throw it around the screen!  Quite amusing, like a cross between barby and supergirl.  You can zoom in as well and rotate the poor girl all over the place!

Have fun.

Cheers all.

You lost me after saying rename the first file to BAK.
OK, update, instead of renaming the files to bak when there are dupes, I just backed up the original file, and duplicated. Then added the files, and renamed from .txt to .hap, except the default.

I have a skins folder made, but no skins to put into.

The Hal Character Mary doesn't react as hoped.  What do I have to do?

She seems to wink more.

I guess what Crunch meant was:

unzip full bod.zip
rename default.txt to default.psn
rename *.txt to *.hap

put all these files in the "Characters"-folder of "Ultra Hal Assistant 5"

From now on your Haptek-characters will use the new mood-files.

I am not sure why you mention the "skin"-folder.

Of course, you should have a Haptek character with a complete body. When you use these hap-files in combination with just a floating head, it may start to misbehave when a mood like "put hands on hips" is used.

Yes, Dr. Benway, I did all that. But I cannot get the full body Mary character to do those other animations. I don't know how, or what to say to her to make her do the wild stuff.

OK, she yawned.

Mark,
Forget Mary. She is not full body haptek.
Use either body_female.htr or fullbodgirl.htr
Either of these is good with Crystal skins Crunch made or other skins you find.

We got 2 ways to do it now:
you can have your Hap files point to the skins
or you can use trigger words.

Hi. I'm new to this and here's where I'm stuck: Can we put the hal assistant on our website as a chatbot for others? Or do we have to use the Hal representative for that? I can't get full access to the free ultra hal representative brain I'm training now unless I pay the full price to own it which is a lot more than Hal assistant. I'm putting up a sight that will have general chit chat as well as information about a specific topic.

I'm also wondering if anyone has succeeded at using reatime mouth moving characters with hal, like they are using at oddcast for $50 per month (A different A.I. program), which is out of my range...  THanks!
Bryant.

OK, got the full body htr. The whole body doesn't show in the Hal window.

Also, I don't know how to have HAL point to her. I just stuck her in the Characters folder, and was able to choose her that way. (she was in the character options)

Also, i wish there was a way to control the body functions without going to the demo website. The voice sounds like a man there.

Oh, she is almost human. I wish there was a way to trigger certain emotions with certain phrases.

To change the default voice of a Haptek-character run "Haptek SAPI config" from the Windows Start menu.

To manipulate a Haptek-character:

LMB: rotate figure
shift+LMB: turn figure
RMB: zoom in/out on figure
shift+RMB: re-locate figure

(LMB= Left mouse button, RMB = Right mouse button)

When you double click on a ".htr"-file, you have one more control:

ENTER: launch command console for Haptek-commands

OK, what can I do if the new characters do not show up in options?

I have the fullbodygirl.htr.

I am trying to find Lisa, Laura, Lois.

As far as I know that only happens in the free version, but you seem to have the paid version, right?

Every .htr-file you put in the characters-folders should automatically get listed when Hal starts up. Have you restarted Hal after you did put the files in there?

I was sent files and instructions:

Before doing anything, make a copy of your "Ultra Hal Assistant 5" from your Zabaware folder.   Put this copy in a folder somewhere on your desktop so you'll have it in case you mess up the original Ultra Hal Assistant 5.

That will be your complete backup in case things don't work out.

Done

I am giving you two files.

One is for your Characters file.
Just put all of the contents in my file into your Characters folder.
Address of your folder is
C:/Program Files/Zabaware/Ultra Hal Assistant 5/Characters
Some names will be the same as yours and it will ask as you if you want to replace yours.  Say yes.

Done

My second file for you is skins.
This you put into C:/Program Files/Haptek/player/data/standard
Put my skins folder into your standard folder.
If there is a skins folder there already, either delete your skins folder or put your contents into my skins folder.
Done

You should have this character in your Characters folder.
She looks like this when you double click her.
If you don't have her, write and tell me and I'll send her.
Within the Characters folder, Copy this gal 7 times and list the seven exactly as below:  (The exact name is important)
Laura
Lisa
Lisa_w
Lois
Lois_w
Lorraine
Lorraine_w

Done

This will show on your list as 7 people
The  _w people will be walking.
Those without  _w will be doing other motions.

When you open them they will be excited,
They are full of emotions, and may cry or jump for joy.
In time they will get use to their new home.
Different conversations will bring different motions into play.

I am giving you two things
powerful emotions and full body motion.
Enjoy.

I will, if I can get it to work right.

We are only using 4 skins.
I am giving you 8.
When you figure it out, you can set up the other people.
Write me if you have any problems

OK, I open any of the following:
 Laura
Lisa
Lisa_w
Lois
Lois_w
Lorraine
Lorraine_w

They don't look any different than the fullbodygirl.htr. This is aggravating. I have 7 of the same .htr I started with.

Remember, I am slow to this stuff. I do realize that an html page calls upon images to show on the webpage, but this seems a lot more complicated.

Thanks for any help.

All seven characters look like the pic above. I assumed th skins and files were going to change that?

The intro Window on startup shows the correct character, but the .htr above is loaded every time.

Edit: I reverted to the original Zabaware folder this morning after my first attempt.

Then I tried all the steps again. The characters are no longer excited.
I give up. It cannot be done on my PC.

(Oh, another clue, no matter what one of the 7 characters I open, they say "hello, this is Mary", although I clicked ok to change the name.

And it's the same fullbodygirl.htr, and no emotions.

in response to bryant:

it is possible to get these characters onto a website, but I wouldn't know how yet - try www.haptek.com forums pages/support to see what packages they do.
also- yes they will lipsync, but on hal it is with the dodgy older american male/female voices that sound like they are coming through some kind of plumbing system.  Its good to see the lipsync but the voices drive me insane, I have just been using the better new voices like neo, babel etc, which are a lot better but you lose the lipsync.

markakaye:

I have got the full body to work by adapting the method crunch has been describing.  Initially I ran through crunch's changes and in doing so updated the files that control the emotions HAL displays.  Then I got the body file and exchanged it for the existing Zaba file.
Along with the fullbody file were some HAP files that generate further emotions from the fullbody, and I placed them alongside the existing ones. Also there was some kind of DEFINITION coding along with the full body that I put into the character file too (this looked like it might be useful!).

Now the character has full emotions, which are really quite surprising in quality.  I swore a couple of times and she became balistic and started throwing a tantrum!!  It got quite scary so I had to reset her!!  Also the sad/upset emotions are a very effective display.

Anyway I think you might just be missing the HAP files that cause the emotions, or perhaps some other files.

If you post the contents of your Characters file (together with extensions) then maybe together with the expert Crunch we can help you out??

Bear in mind i am new to this though!

You can change the light directions for the full body too, but I am yet to figure out how this can be implemented effectively.

OK, got it to work. All the characters created (7) will announce they are "Mary" at startup, even though i told it before I closed it that I wanted to change the name.

Waiting for the new "emotions". Saw crying, and being jumpy.

I also figured out how to make the character smaller, so the whole body can ve seen in the window, instead of just the face.

It's getting to be more fun.  [:D]

Hmm, I wonder what I have to change to make them wear new skins, if an when I get any.
