Ok, I tried that (Internet Explorer with multiple tabs opened in same page - actually multiple web sites) and a couple of more instances if Internet Explorers each with multiple tabs of different web sites. Did the exact same thing as before - "who is the president of the united states" and all Internet Explorers closed when he answered with the same answer as before. What I have not done, disable one by one each plugin... then complain...

I found an answer, though it took a long time to find it. The answer was really simple and like you said, written in .vbs  All I had to do was write the 9 lines needed. Make a folder in the start menu folder where Hal could find it. Course I had to write the same script twice (once to turn on a light and again to turn off the same light) for each light in the home automation system. But I got to say, it sure is nice to say, "I'm going to bed now, turn off all the lights please." Very cool...

Thanks onthecuttingedge2005 for the tip!!!

Thanks onthecuttingedge2005, I will do that!

I did do a search, perhaps I used wrong key words to search for...

Has anyone made a plugin so a user could turn lights on and off? I have smart home automation ... also known as insteon... It would be very cool if Hal could be told to turn on the coffee pot or living room light...

Ok, I had this forum open. I asked Hal, "Who is the president of the united states?"
Hal said, "Barack Obama was elected president of America in the year 2008. Without a doubt! President of the United States, the forty-fourth president of the United States is barack hussein obama."

And prior to saying that, closed this web page of the forum. So, I'm thinking Hal researches the internet for the answer and then closes All web pages that are open.

I think I copied a posted updated brain from here, if that makes any difference.

Hey Jerry! Been a while, I'm glad to see a familiar face in this crowd. Glad you're still plugging a way with Hal. I had given up for a while, but now I'm back. I will pay more attention to when Hal closed my browser windows and give a step by step how it happened.

Thanks

After Hal accesses the internet it closes ALL web pages - I really wish Hal wouldn't do that... Can anyone tell me exactly where this is and exactly how to fix it?

I have the AI Address Book
AI Appointment Book
FreeWill plus 2.1z
Gender & Age
Google Search
Run Programs by Name
USA Weather Plugins enabled.

For example, Who is Barack Obama, Hal does what he's supposed to, but if there are any web pages open, Hal closes ALL of them. Not exactly what I prefer.

Also, is there any way to have Hal not only get programs from the start menu, but also from another folder I specify?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks, and it has  been a while hasn't it! And look at all you guys! 1,000s of posts and look at all the plugins you guys have done over the years! You guys are becoming real programmers! I am very impressed!

Good to see most everyone is still here!

By now I'd figure someone would have made a Yahoo Messenger bot, and an ICQ bot (did I forget any?)!

I remember all the things that are now built into Hal, we were doing as mods back then! Hal sure has come a long way! Very good job you guys! And Thanks Robert for building them into Hal!

When I left, haptek was just starting to be considered. In those days, we were looking at the Santa since he could lip sink! Things sure have progressed!

I'm still checking out all those plugins!!!

Rock on!

That would be like two old women out by the back fence gossiping about the neighbors: Well, Margret told me yesterday that John’s car was parked out behind Suzy’s house all night long, night before last… lol That would be / could be very funny…

Would you, could you call that a gossiping plugin??? If anyone makes that one, I'd be interested in checking it out...

Ultra Hal 7.0 / How Come...
« on: March 01, 2009, 09:30:21 pm »
My laptop has a firewall running in addition to anti-virus etc - so it would seem the laptop should run slower than the desktop - desktop isn't running a firewall...

I did try running Hal in compatibility mode and I keep Hal's attention more - but still it's annoying when I have to wait for the rest of my typed in words to catch up...

any other suggestions???

Ultra Hal 7.0 / How Come...
« on: March 01, 2009, 09:14:46 pm »
How come Hal runs much faster on my laptop (AMD Turion 64 mobile, 1.99 GHZ, 896 MB Ram) with XP, before I transfered Hal on to my desktop (AMD Phenom 9600 Quad-Core 2.31 GHZ, 4.00 GB Ram) with 64 bit Vista ???

I mean, it takes several seconds before Hal will even come up, then most of the time when I type in the box, I can only get a few words in then I have to wait for the words actually catch up and appear in the box. Some times after I hit enter it takes several MINUTES before anything happens??? Everything else on the Vista system is 1000 times faster than my laptop, why is Hal 1000 times slower??? What HAVE I DONE TO HAL???

Someone PLEASE give me a clue....

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Script help
« on: February 27, 2009, 11:43:11 pm »
You understand you can't put this directly in Hal's script, right??? Hal has to call another script that "sleep" is in, then that script with the "sleep" has to call your music player...

the lines with 'in front is treated as a comment so for which ever one you want to use , you have to remove the ' for it to work... you should research vb programming if you want to use this stuff cause it can lead to  high stress levels when weird things happen...
