installation problems with Ultra Hal Assistant 6.1
« on: January 04, 2008, 11:31:50 pm »
I had the 3.0 and 4.5 version previously, until the 4.5 got corrupted.
Trying to install the 6.1 version (after deleting the previous 4.5), it gave me the following error code about a missing 'Ultra Hal Assistant.msi needed for proper deletion of the older program.

I really like to upgrade, but have a Win 98 SE processor, (any problems?).

Any help would be appreciated very much.

Thanks

Uwe

It sounds like you deleted it using windows explorer instead of the UltraHal Uninstall and it left some files on your system.

If you have indeed removed all traces of the original program from the folders / directories in Drive C: you might want to run a registry / cleaner program. Hopefully it might look for and remove all unused and unneeded files. Google:CCleaner / Free Window Registry Repair for a couple to try.

If this fails, I'd suggest going into your Registry (Run Regedit) and Search for any instances of the word(s) Hal, Ultra, Zaba.
Delete the record(s) if found. Restart and try the install again.

In the world of AI it's the thought that counts!

First of all removing old versions of Hal before installing newer versons of Hal can be a big mistake and in many cases people are told not to do just this as the newer versions of Hal in many cases use or incorporate the knowledge the older versions have learned.
A case in point with Hal 4.5 and Hal 5.0 I had incorporated several different brain files created by others and modified by many including myself. When I upgraded to Hal 6.0 it incorporated all of these older brains right into the new version of Hal.
I can now select the brain files that I want to run right from the Hal 6.0 menu, however, if you try to remove all the old brain files before installing new versions you can and will miss out on this option.

Thank you gentlemen for your advice, but guess what, no luck so far.
I'tell you what I did, used the ccleaner and fixed the registry, went to regedit and removed everything connected with hal, zaba and ultra.

The attempted installation of the 6.0 version went as follows:
A previous version of Ultra Hal was found, click yes to transfer brain.
I clicked 'yes'.
Are you sure you want to uninstall this product. 'Yes'

The feature you are trying to use is on a CD ROM that is not available (it is).
The installation for this product is not available .
Verify that the source exists and that you can access it..

This is basically the dialog I received.
In the meantime I ordered a 6.1 version via rom disc, plus extra characters.

Now what am I going to do...need some real help.

anyone?

I'm no expert, but I'll offer my opinion.

You cited that your system uses 98SE.  From this I assume this is just an extra computer and you have the vast majority of your work and software on another computer.

If this computer is dedicated to your AI interests, how difficult would it be to backup your data, reformat the hard drive, and reload your 98SE OS, the drivers, and your AI software?

Starting from scratch and cleaning up your system installation might save you considerable time; if you have 98SE and driver (motherboard, modems,...) disks readily available.

Additionally, this should increase the processing speeds of your AI software.

Be sure you know where all of your brain building data resides so you don't accidentally delete it; I can't help you there.

If you still have a problem following this procedure, then you know the problem is in the AI software you are loading and its' compatibility with your version of 98SE and/or your motherboard.  At least then you won't tend to be fighting an endless battle.

thank you gentlemen for your help
I actually was able to install the 6.1 version, after cleaning out the registry manually

still a minor problem...the characters don't want to lip synchronize with any speech...what could be the problem?

Thanks again

Run your HapSAPISetup.exe program in order for the voices to sync.

It's in the following folder:

C:\Program Files\Haptek\player\data\HapTTS

Your voices should now work properly.

You were right, Art...great help!
Maybe I  wrongly phrased the question, though

For example Sandy does not move her lips at all anymore, she used to with my previous programs. You know so much, and I really appreciate any input.

Thanks
