Ultra Hal 7.0 / New MSAgent
« on: December 20, 2009, 07:32:04 am »
I've seen that done, but usually in a pornographic way. I bet that stop motion photography of a small model might be a good way to get some nice animations. Like an action figure or something.

Hmm... I'll have to try that.

Well, now I'm up to five projects that are each to big for me....

Yeah, nothing wastes... I means fills... the time, like banging away at code. I'm afraid I've got too many projects started right onw, I don't seem to be making much progress on any of them, plus I have to refresh myself on VBS and Povray scene description language as I go.

It's starting to come back to me, but slowly.

Thanks Roy!

I used to own some Ulead Products including the Gif Animator... I wonder if my license is still good...

Good to see you around.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Teaching with Hal

I'm not ready to dig into it, but it has to be that parser I was talking about.

The parser would be built to find the tags that Wikipedia uses to define the main article section of the page, remove any HTML in that section and then break the rest up into phrases.

That's a fairly big and tedious job, in my estimation.

Thanks, got it!

I kept looking for "Vintage" in the name, I knew there was something like that but I couldn't remember the name.

No, I know how to make agents, I've made several insignificant ones. The problems is (and because of my reformat I have to start over) that PovRay outputs a 16m color image with it's own palette. But Character Editor wants 256 color images with a single unified palette. As frames progress, with different parts of the Robot coming into view, the frames I have develop different colors. So I need to be able to point something at a directory of many images and have it deduce a single 256 indexed pallet.

I'm still working on Animator Shop, but I had to reinstall everything this morning and I'm still not quite there.

I'll look again, but I didn't find a way to use animated gifs as a MsAgent animation, it seemed to want individual BMP frames.

Could you possibly post a new link to this plugin? I would appreciate it.

I got this and it does create a unified palette for animated gifs, but how did you then export those images for MsAgent?

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Conversation starter questions
« on: December 16, 2009, 08:16:12 am »
Great resource!

Hal already has a fallback database of random conversation starters, which these certainly could be added to. I just had to reformat and reinstall my whole system so it will be a while before I get my Hal back up, but I'm going to add these.

This would be a perfect example of the need for a plugin that just allowed you to read sentences into Hal without having it respond every time.

Yes! That's exactly it, thanks!

I am always amazed at what plugins can do for Hal. By itself it is a fascinating but limited Robot, with plugins, it has the opportunity to become much more.

Anyone who uses Hal and who has any interest in learning to script plugins for it, has all my support.

I just remembered that someone, maybe "ramccoid" made a plugin that would either count or do the alphabet, I forget which. It may be still posted here.

You can't get it to actually count, because it's just a phrase comparing machine, but you can get it to say a phrase that has the numbers counted in it.

Simply say the list of numbers to it at various times. You can't do it twice in a row or it will bump out to the "are you repeating yourself" set of phrases.

Maybe say something like "You will count, one, two, three", then later, after you've done it several times, when you use a sentence with the word "count" in it, Hal will replace the word "you" with "I" and say, "I will count, one, two, three"

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Don't say that again

SQLite is the opensource database module that Robert uses in Hal (last time I looked) and you can find freeware tools to manipulate the resultant DBs which are in your UltraHal directory.

But do be careful, I seem to recall several times that my efforts resulted in a completely dead brain.

I am certain that the plugin is possible and I will work on it, but it will be a while. I'll have to relearn most of my VBScripting knowledge... it's been a long road to this place.
