Ultra Hal 7.0 / Hal, just listen to me for a minute.
« on: December 09, 2009, 12:44:26 am »
I wonder if there is a way to turn of the responses of Hal so that you can just read a long list of information in to it without having to wait for each response.

Any ideas? I can make the plugin if I have a hint where to look to shut Hal up.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Haptek
« on: December 06, 2009, 10:13:15 am »
I guess I do need to look at the Haptek documentation. I've been resisting it...

So what I meant was that when using Hal with a Haptek character, it doesn't seem that they are free of their window, so you have to keep the whole thing, window and all, in front of other windows. I like a little small character that I can see around. But I want more animation than most MSAgents have.

My only problem with Haptek is that the characters (as far as I remember) can't come out of their windows. Has that changed or is there some way to make the character move around on the screen without a frame?

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Anyone still making plugins?
« on: December 05, 2009, 08:38:18 pm »
I'm very interested and have sent you an email to your hotmail address.

Are there discussions on this board about the work or a place to read up on it on your site?

I'm afraid I don't know anything about Paradox, but the database is an SQLite format (unless it's changed) if that makes a difference.

I once had an installation that wouldn't open any brain files and I think I did fix it by doing a clean reinstall... but don't quote me on that...

General Discussion / Poser 7 with Hal?
« on: November 30, 2009, 05:43:48 pm »
I don't know what else you might do with Poser using "haptek" and Hal but if you just want a certain character, you can make animations and compile it into a MSagent file.

I'm not the guy to ask about haptek though.

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Coding Questions

VB is pretty easy if you know any programming at all. VBScript is pretty nice too. It lacks some file control but you can rig ways around that sometimes.

Here's a page you might be interested in, http://ultrahalscript.pbworks.com/

Hal has some C components, but MSVB is excellent for working with databases, which is the real heart and brain of Hal. It also makes it easy to write plugins using VBScript.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Anyone still making plugins?

I'm kinda disappointed that most of the discussion here seems to be about graphics and off topic stuff. Not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just not what I'm interested in.

Is no-one doing any work on making Hal more useful, helpful and flexible? Or have I just come at a bad time? Looking back I can see lots of activity a few years ago, but very little now.

This certainly looks interesting, but what's the price for a full version?

I am. I had problems getting SAPI 5.1 to run in XP Pro, but Hal worked both in XP Pro and XP Home. I've got it over on my other computer with XP Home because SAPI worked there.

I find this tremendously exciting. I prefer msagent over haptek in many ways, and have always wished there were more and better ways to use the technology. Maybe when they get done, their version will be more full featured...

I spent some time trying to adapt SQLite tools to do some batch jobs on the Hal DB, and I don't recall it being very profitable. It's been a while but I seem to remember that sometimes my edits were not retained and that new entries never showed up.

You're excused.

You seem angry, and looking around, it seems to be a frequent thing for you. If you can point out anything I actually said that was wrong, I will be happy to accept correction. Cheerfully accepting correction is a skill you could benefit from.

Yes Bill, I should have mentioned the back up too. I guess I'm so used to doing it that it seemed like a given to me. And I while I kinda remember the correction plugin, it almost seems more tedious than just going in and fixing things. Maybe if it was a mistake that was common to several sentences. Otherwise I think I would just go through with a print out of the conversation, find the phrases that got entered incorrectly and fix them.
