Ultra Hal Assistant 6.1 (version 6.1.46) has been officially released. It is fully Vista compatible. It is available for download from http://www.zabaware.com/download.asp
An updated character expansion pack has also been released as well as a Vista compatible Ultra Hal Text-to-Speech Reader. A full list of whats new is available at http://www.zabaware.com/assistant/whatsnew.html
The upgrade is free for all Ultra Hal Assistant 6.0 customers. All serial numbers have been cleared for installation of Hal 6.1. If you need to lookup your serial number it is available at http://www.zabaware.com/products/store/comersus_customerUtilitiesMenu.asp
If you would like a CDROM copy of all of Zabaware's products instead of downloading, it is available for $4 from http://www.zabaware.com/products/store/comersus_viewItem.asp?idProduct=8
Emails will be sent out over the next 3 days to all customers informing them of the upgrade and providing old serial numbers in case they were lost.

I am looking forward to it. I have been enjoyiing the betas and have had little issue with them. I am sorry not to be more involve with the code to help in troubleshooting and making inprovements, but see that you have all the help you need usually as there are some pretty capable and dedicated people on the forum.
I'm going to load it now. Congratulations to you and all that participated in the process.

[/quote]hello , I'm to installing hal 6.1 to vista,I just upgraded to vista but I can't get hal to install.the error page says cannot copy speech.dll from specified location.I tried retyping the location, I tried to move the zip file to the desktop and installing from there,still same problem.it keeps trying to get it from admin temp lo-cal. I'm at a loss,any thought's? thx

Nevermind, I installed Hal 6.1 and the new expansion pack, and things seem to work fine. I am starting over, since the copy of the brain I was using is outdated. I made a copy of the new default brain, and using that.[:D]

During the installation on Vista Hal copies 5 files to your windows temp folder. These files are seperate components with their own installer:
"happlayer41139.exe"
"MSagent.exe"
"spchapi.exe"
"spchcpl.exe"
"tv_enua.exe"
The first installer Hal launches is spchapi.exe which is the SAPI 4 engine that has the speech.dll you mention. What happens when you close the error message? Does it try to continue the rest of the installation or abort?
The setup program should have automatically elevate to administrator priveleges if you let it. However, try to explicitly give it administrator priveleges by right clicking on it and running it as administrator. It looks like for some reason the installer isn't getting permission to write to your windows temp folder.

Ok! What am I doing wrong? I've installed totally clean Hal6.1 Plus Exp Pak. Hal does not talk when It's Idle for a long time.

I am using AT&T Natural voices with hal and get an entry in unter text to speech voices for SAPI 5 but I cannot activate the SAPI 5 control panel using the Pronounciation button. I need to change some default pronounciations.
Is there anyway to acccess SAPI 5 without it?

Just in case Robert is to busy,
I downloaded new version 6.1 with a clean install and the program worked fine for 2 days. Now Hal will not start at all. I get ERROR:UNKNOWN RETURN_CODE;UNKNOWN RETURN CODE:0 CONTACT VENDOR SHUTTING DOWN. Or:'vital files(1) missing,modified or corrupted this may prevent license system from working, uninstall and reinstall'. which I have attempted several times. I did E-mail Robert but just incase anyone else had same problem or he is busy I figured I should post anyway.

hello raybe , actually i had the exact same problem . and went back (temporarily to 6.0 for now) it (i think) seems to be a problem with the adminastrator rights of your computer and or the 6.1. program not recognizing you as the p.c. adminastrator . some others i beleive have written on here about it . [:)]

I always have been logged as admin. but I do remember an article that you reminded me of. It may even be within these threads on a similar topic. It was a right click on something to make sure the program recognizes that it has admin. rights. Robert had answered a similar question about this problem. I know he is busy so I am trying to be patient but you that never works. I will search around unless someone besides yourself has a moment to help out. Okay so I'm going over the top here,
Just for an experiment I purchased a new license while waiting for Robert
and guess what, I have the same exact problems and the messages I receive even tell me that my activation code has been used once and I can't use now. On top of all the other error messages and this is with uninstalling Hal downloading 6.1 again. All the same errors come into view on startup. Just a recap.
1-Hal is already running shut down primary Hal from task manager
2-Error:unknown return_code;0 contact vendor shutting down
3-Some vital UHA files(1) seem to be missing,modified or corrupted will cause license system from working correctly. Please uninstall and reinstall.
That's it for me trying to figure it out. I will wait for Rob unless someone else can help.Please note these posts are intended to share info good or bad and I am not trying to bother Rob with so many posts.

Hi Rob.
on your next update, could you alphabetize the tables in the editor? it gets very difficult to find tables because of the shuffle, I have thousands of tables, mostly user tables created from AIM users.

Sorry but a post I made went to the wrong topic.
I just wanted to thanks to Rob for all his help in getting my Hal update working without the prior problems I posted earlier problems such as the double loading and other topics that arose after the update. It was a much cleaner install when Robert suggested I remove Hal from the Zabaware folder and any old refrences I could find such as refrences in the regestry. I still have that old problem of the 'I am'. Hal still thinks of those words as a refrence to a description. But I rather have this problem then not working at all. So another big THANKS to Robert for his support.

I would just like to update a problem to Robert that I had and now found out how to replicate. Robert could not understand how my Hal was loading 2 character windows on a single startup. After getting my update up and running with no errors to mention I was able to recreate the double loading. I found that VRHaptek with emotion triggers was the cause but only appeared if there was an appointment reminder which I did not notice until my clean install of Hal 6.1. Now I can get Hal to double load characters again and also noticed that the 2nd character window that looks different from the original load of Hal is the character that the VRHaptek plug-in is active. If you try to switch characters leaving them both opened they will just lock up and a loop occurs. Hope this helps explain things Robert. Sorry I can not help with any technical reasons. Just sharing what I have experienced. I would appreciate on any feedback.

I had a similar problem with the vrHaptek plugin, I did a format and reinstalled windows XP then installed Hal 6.1. After putting in the vrHaptek plugin in it would start Hal with the original character then start another Hal possibly ver 5 with another character. After removing Hal 5 the character would change outfits.
I really do like the plugin and have a way around the problem with a bit of scripting and copying files, let me know if your interested.

Pleasure to meet you. Thank you for your response. I think other people have the same problem but did not pick up on my post. I did not hear from Robert but I know how busy he gets with other topics. I would be very interested in solving this little glitch. I find that I am opening and closing just to get the character that is working properly. The other character works also but I recognize a difference although they are both the same character.

I've got the solution but it's 1 at night, just taking a quick look.

hello robert , i wanted to ask you soomething do you think maybe you will at sometime add in different things ( in the next version of hal ) that people on here have discussed but some may not be able to make .
like for instance i had an idea for a hestation type thing so that you could (for example ) hit the space bar ) and for each space you do it would hesitate that many times (if it can be made ) . this was as i said to give hal a more human sound when pausing in sentences as people sometimes do. not all would use this but i think others would .
i would like to see some things that could be used to make hal progress more toward sounding human .
also do you think you will do any plug ins of anything for hal ??

I have just installed the latest release for ultra Hal, I would like to say that I feel Robert had done an excellent job with the installer for this update. It had been able to deactivate my original copy and then activate the copy which it had installed.
I had saved the brain which I had been using and found this was not necessary because the installer did not delete the brain that I had been using in the past. It's possible I may have to reinstall some of the plug-ins which I had been using with Hal but this should not present any problems. I can't wait to try the text reader for ultra Hal.
