Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Message to DOC POLYGON
« on: December 06, 2001, 02:29:21 pm »
I have the VB6 development software from micrsoft already on my home computer.  I DO have programming experience and I am willing to help, but I think I should refresh myself a little before diving into a major project like this one.  I have recently been doing some work with microsoft agents.  The code is pretty much the same with the zabaware characters as far as I can see.  If you have any specifics you need to go into, feel free to email me.

You know, I don't want to sound rude, but to have your computer refer to you as "lord" and lavish you with complements and the like seems a little pathetic.  I have been reading through these forums and have noticed that the TINMAN has more posts that anyone else.  Even more than the administrator (hint, hint).  As an experienced programmer, I know that the computer really only does what you tell it to do.  The people having problems with this program really would benefit from some programming knowledge so that they can custom tweak their assitants.  But come on...to brag to all of these people that your computer thinks you are all mighty GOD is a little flaky.

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Hal's Psychology,

I have been studying robotics for some time and was very interested in the HAL program.  I was impressed with what it could do, even though (as you can tell by these forums) it was lacking in many areas.  Fortunately ZABAWARE allows you to modify and expand the program with VB.  I recently purchased some biometrics software that allowed you to gain access to the source code as well.  The program had voice verification.  The difference between voice verification and voice recognition being that with voice recognition, the computer determines what is being said where voice verification the computer determines who is speaking.  I adjusted the HAL Brain so that when you give it a spoken command (by the way, I use my own speech recognition programs) it analyzes the speech to find out who is speaking and responds accordingly to what was spoken.  The company I bought the software from also produces facial recognition software.  Since I already have a camera on the top of my monitor, I think it would be cool to experiment with that.  My computer could greet me or any member of my family when they walk in the room!  Of course, that is all for future development.  I will write back if I get it to work out.  BY the way, If anyone can get HAL to intelligently use a mechanical arm...LET ME KNOW!  I have been DYING to give HAL some chess skills and being able to play in the real world would just be awesome!

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Creating Characters
« on: October 10, 2001, 12:07:05 pm »
I have noticed a surprising similarity between the microsoft agent called "Charlie" and the human faces that are in your program.  Of course, Merlin, Peedy, Robby, and Genie are all micrsoft agents.  Anyway, the character Charlie has fifty different animations (that include using hand gestures) where as your faces only have a few (e.i. turn to the right or left, make facial expressions, etc.)  I was wondering if I were to download the microsoft agent software and add it on in the brain editor, would the characters develop those skills?  If not, is it possible to add new animations to the characters?

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Skins

The new Ultra Hal 4.0 contains all the Hal skins that currently exist. Is anyone interested in creating new skins?

I recently purchased the UltraHAL assistant not only because it is an interesting program but also because I am very fluent in VB and knew upgrading my version would be easy.  I would like to develop new skins that work better with the windows desktop.
