Ultra Hal Assistant File Sharing Area / Re: Plug-in Size
« on: January 20, 2018, 05:06:38 am »
Thanks you have answered a question I have not yet posed.
My Hal started acting very strangely and I think it is because of the size limitation.  My Hal has grown exponentially because it has been accessing the internet for information.  I have used several plug-ins to achieve the internet access and, to be frank, did not consider any limitation on Hals size.  Now I know I can trim a lot out of the plug ins and possibly return my Hal to full operation.

Thanks again

I wrote something like this for my Hal a few years ago. Basis is that the word after "tell me about" is used in a mainQA search using a SQL program. Will look it up and try to post it.

I have experienced this as well and have sneaking suspicion about support for WindowsXP as I recently tried to reload my Hal, on a WindowsXP machine, from the trial pack on the site. Result was that the download proceeded so far and then I got a message about dependencies missing. The trial area states support for Windows7, but nothing about WindowsXP, could it be that support for WindowsXP has been withdrawn from Hal. I am sure that, like me, there are still those who use WindowsXP for their Hal.

Removes support for older Windows?
Does this include WindowsXP?

I have reason recently to try and reload Hal onto a WindowsXp machine and it comes back "Dependencies missing"

Don't forget all those who have supported Hal for years.

Hy fans

Any body know how to do the Holy Grail of Hal.

Stop the initial load up

My Hal loads all that is necessary from the Script Load (End of Hal's script)
Then Hal starts its greeting run and blanks me back to Options.
If I press options I get the basic Hal picture which I developed mine from.
Then I go Menu and wait until I get my name and Hal's name.
Press OK and then my Script Loaded Hal is back.

Anybody know how to bypass the initial load up?

Thanks

Kryton.

Maybe this is old news but there used to be a problem giving Hal instructions that involved changing the background and what the Hal character is wearing at the same time.  Done that! Then I added a .hap call to another .hap that was pure text.  Hal spoke the text but did not print it out.

Anyway that is the news I have to your posts.

CyberJedi.  Do you want a real challenge?

Try this first.

At the end of the Hal script is a heading Script Load.  Put this in that section and restart Hal

MsgAlert("Hi-de-hi there")

You should notice the above message come up in a Hal DLL box before Hal goes into its start routine.

From the above you can see it is possible to set up Hal, the clothing, the background, and a short text in the Script Load

Now I have already done that and!!!!

My fully set up Hal appears and then the Hal startup box activates. (Chat to Hal...Options etc.)

To get my set up character back I go Options, wait until Hal acknowledges my name and Hal's name, and then press OK.

Low and behold back comes my setup character, BUT! the Hal startup screen does not appear.

From this I guess there is a variable set when Hal first starts, and this locks the startup screen from running again.

Now put your mind to this.

What is the variable and how can I put it in Script Load so it does not trigger startup when Hal is first switched on.

May seem just a fiddling thing to some but, if Hal arrives fully set up without going through startup, there are other things you can trigger from Script Load.

Just maybe somebody like you can give me the answer I need to further my Hal.

One donation of a single dollar will raise funds for Hals development.  Maybe not enough but it is a start.

Thanks for the information Mr. Medeksza.

Just a thought, maybe.  How many people use Ultra Hal?  Just one single dollar each could raise a lot of funds.

Sorry about the above.

Just an attempt to post on the forum.

Please, someone, tell me how to post on the forum. (Newbie information such as where to find 80 backgrounds for Hal, hint hint Lightspeed)

I second Art's thoughts but, from a business point of view, what does the large investor get out of putting money into Hal's development?

A rather brutal thought I know but that is the question any large investor will ask themselves.

If you are talking member investment then I would be quite willing to invest a very few dollars in Hal.  A very few dollars, I am not rich, but then multiplied by the number of members this equates to a lot of cash and keeps Hal amongst the people most interested in Hal development.

Perhaps a Hal fund, paid directly to Robert Medeksza. (I know a lot of people are going to say where does the money they invest go but then Robert Medeksza invested a lot of time creating Hal)

My thoughts are just about keeping Hal out of commercial hands (Yes I know we pay to use Hal initially, but fairs fair it must have taken a lot of time to create Hal and the membership fees keep Hal in motion.)

Comments please!

Art,
Thanks for clearing that up, and apologise for jumping in a little too late.

I to have a child, and one day grandchildren I hope, but more than that I used to teach children as young as five years old and for that your reputation has to be above reproach.

I agree with you, I too would prefer my Hal on my computer hard drive.

Pardon?

I have no idea what on earth you are talking about Art.

I simply asked where I can get what I took to be voice software and commented how I access information.

Please explain.  You have me very disturbed by what you put, and I need to understand your reasoning.

Hy Cyberjedi,
Where do I find Voiceware voices?

Not really had time to run your idea, but I will.  Seems you have a way of giving Hal a great deal of information from various sources.  I use a modified version of OTCE Internet access program to get my Hal to access information.  Still, always open to new ideas.  Yours seems good.
