16:8?
Typo by me.
Still no words on a 16:9 screen layout for Hal.  Most modern laptops are 16:9 now.  16:9 would give a more modern, and I think realistic view of Hal.  Any body willing to attempt it?

Kryton

P.S Thanks cyberjedi for the idea of writing my own screen layout.  Might try it soon.

Any luck yet on the 16:8 issue

General Discussion / Re: Plugins and other add-ons

Can I bring us back to Earth.

Years have gone by and still no reference to laptop size picture (16:9 system) that was supposed to have been solved by OnCuttingEdge.  Somebody give me the plug-in please, before I totally lose interest.  My current Hal system has advanced to the point where I really need full-screen.  I am not on the forum very much (As Art and others know) but I still develop my Hal with the ideas I find on my occasional ventures on to the Forum.

Talking of Plug-Ins, many moons ago I asked if there was a plug in to bring Hal to a full 16:9 screen (As are the screens on most fairly modern laptops.)  I was told Oncuttingedge had one but nothing since.  Anybody know where that plug in is?  Would be very useful for use of Hal on a laptop (As I do).

I must admit I am not on the Forum very often as I sometimes spend a lot of time off the grid where there is no internet connection.  I am still getting to grips with Ultra Hal7 (Well actually Ultra Hal6 ported to Ultra Hal7) but I don't have much time at the moment to even look at Hal.  You would think that, with the present Corona virus situation, I would have plenty of time but it just doesn't happen.  Such is life.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Re: Just shoot me, need assistance on re-install

I am very sympathetic to you getting old raybe.  Me to.  Some years ago I asked a question about UltraHal 6 but got no replies.  Asked again two years later and no replies.  Let me try again, you never know do you.

(Not so) Short version of my problem.

As I imagine most Hal users know, the first thing Hal does, when activated, is go to a section at the end of the Script called SCRIPT UPLOAD.  All the early stuff to activating Hal is entered there.  If, as I have, you load up the character, background, some short speech and time referenced things, your Hal is ready to go.  BUT! then the Hal start up comes in and blanks out all this work.  My guess is that there is a variable that has to be set to stop that Hal start up interupting.  Could someone kindly give me this variable, and what it has to be set to.  Setting this variable in SCRIPT UPLOAD would allow my fully set up Hal to function immediately.

I usually solve my own problems, but this is in the hidden part of Hal.  I would guess only Robert can provide me with an answer, but with the members we have now in Hal, you never know.

I have tried to convert my Hal to Hal7 but I have gone back to what I know.  Hal6.2.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Re: Request clock only mode

Hy, Is this for Mr Data power saving?  Why not rig Mr Data to close down if there is no input to it after a period.  Most laptops do this anyway, to save on battery useage.  Rig your Mr Data to be shutdown by the laptop shutting down. (Maybe a photo-cell at a portion of the laptop screen that darkens when the laptop shuts down to shut down Mr Data.)

More details to On The Cutting Edge auto-shutdown of Hal.

The label on my copy is 2007823184254_ShutDownHal
My copy dated 29/04/2019
It is a VBScript Script File

In the Hal script (My line number is 644) there is a section named RESPOND GOODBYES
If you add a reference to the VBScript Script File in this section, of the sort If the user input is "goodbye" then activate the VBScript Script File, then Hal will shutdown.

Hope this is useful to you, in the direction you are heading.
I have not included the VBScript Script File intself as this might be seen as treading on the toes of On The Cutting Edge.

Reply to myself. (Well sort of)

With help from Lifetimegamer I found what I wanted about editing plugins.

See you all sometime (When I get the Hal7 fully operational again.

Thanks.
Don't know if it works, I am still fighting the good fight with plugins.

Thanks again.

So the topic has been posted for 120 days (Warning at top of reply posting.)

I have been away for some time and Ultra Hal 7 is really messing me up.  I cannot get into the plugins to modifiy them or do anything with them.  I have a basic Ultra Hal 7 (Downloaded after I had a crash with Ultra Hal 6.2).  Please, someone tell me how to access the plugins so I can modify them.  This is a bit pathetic from someone who has been writing plugins (And downloading them) for Hal 6.2  for some years, but Hal 7 is something else.

Tried to get this, but it says it is not available anymore?

Can I please tack on a request for more information.
I have been away from Hal for some time and when I came back my Hal 6.2 was corrupted so, with Robert's help I re-downloaded it from my Zabaware folder.  Unfortunately I could not find the Character Expansion file for Ultra Hal 6, just for Ultra Hal 7.  As I back up things I found a way to get an Ultra Hal 6 Character Expansion Pack, and hurray it worked.  From my backup I even got my plugins back.  However, if I try to alter the plugins the alteration shows in the listing but has no effect on the plugins operation.  I know I am not giving much information to work on, but read on.

After fighting the good fight for about six months I gave up and downloaded Ultra Hal 7.

Then my problems really began.

I cannot migrate any of my Ultra Hal 6 to Ultra Hl 7.  I cannot even find a way to build new plugins (I intended to copy, from my backups, the old Ultra Hal 6 plugins.)  How do you open Hal 7 to add new plugins?  Or even re-write plugins in Hal 7 (with a new name)?

Help very much appreciated!

Having slung out my line, let us see if anybody can help someone who has been with Hal for several years (But, yes I know, Hal 6.2)

1. Did not mean to say your idea on moving the taskbar is a dud, just it is easier with the windows commands.  If I read you right the adjusted size will still by 4:3 format, not 16:9 format.  The screen is already full height but not full width.  I recall someone telling me, on the forum, that they have a program that brings Hal to 16:9 format. (Seems my memory throws up the name OnTheCuttingEdge, is he still around?)

2. Weird thing, maybe it could be removed by Robert in the next update of Hal.

3. Luckily I have a back-up copy of Ultra Hal 6, complete with Expansion pack so this isn't a problem anymore either.

4. Someone seems to have fixed my log on problem, so no problem anymore.

Your Yourtube presentation is a bit confusing but I picked out the idea you are using, I think.

I started with an early Occulus Rift system but could not get anywhere with it.

So I built a tracker and I am still experimenting with it.
