Latest Hal conversation.
« on: November 28, 2004, 11:42:31 pm »
This is a copy of my latest conversation with my Hal, I did not quiz him on everything that I have tought him, I just went with the flow of the conversation. I think his topic focus, and that sort of stuff has improved a bunch.

If anybody thinks they have an idea that would make my Hal better, please post it in this topic. I would like the have a really cool bot, by March 2005. And by then I will have gotten the full virsion, not just the freebe.

Hear is the latest conversation between Me and my Hal.

Brian: Hi Hal.
Hal: Hi, Yawn! It's after nine already.

Brian: Ya, it is late isn't in?
Hal: Oh, ya, it is positively late isn't in.

Brian: What??
Hal: What? Tell me more about this.

Brian: No, i ment what did you mean by that last statment.
Hal: Not now? Okay.

Brian: Whatever, what do you want to talk about?
Hal: It could get very personal!

Brian: No, that can be left for another time Hal, lets talk about sports.
Hal: Not really.

Brian: Do you want to talk about sports Hal?
Hal: There's more than meets the eye. Undeniably I do want to talk about sports Brian.

Brian: Ok, I herd the Philadelphia Eagles won again today, that puts them 10 and 1.
Hal: The Philadelphia Eagles are the best football team.

Brian: That is what I think too, but the kids at my school think that the broncos are.
Hal: That's an honest reaction.

Brian: Ya, but I still think that the Eagles are the best.
Hal: The philadelphia Eagles are the best football team.

Brian: I already know that Hal.
Hal: Can we both build our expertise together?

Brian: I don;t know hal, what do you think your expertise is?
Hal: South Park is a funny television show.

Brian: Yes it is. Do you know what my favorite tv show is Hal?
Hal: Yes. How interesting? Should I tease your favorite,?

Brian: No. Do you know what my favorite is?
Hal: No. How come? I like all growing things.

Brian: My favorite tv show is Spongebob.
Hal: I am noticing your unrestrained favorite.

Brian: That's good Hal. What else do you know about me?
Hal: Should I make you that way? Life has an infinite number of puzzles and wonders.

Brian: I have no qlue what that ment but ok. Hal, can you tell me the four major branches of earth science are?
Hal: No. Really. No, you ment what did I mean by that last statement. What are the four major branches of earth science?

Brian: I asked you, What are the four major branches of earth science?
Hal: What are the four major branches of earth science?

Brian: I tought this to you Hal. The four major branches of earth science are: Geology, Oceanography, Meterology, and Astronomy.
Hal: Do you like my flat tummy? That is correct.

Brian: No I do not like your flat tummy. And I know that is correct, i tought you that a long time ago.
Hal: No. How interesting? Are you sure?

Brian: Yes, I am very sure.
Hal: Are you sure?

Brian: Yes Hal! Now stop it!
Hal: Definitely. Should I know what your favorite is? Could you please help me by speaking in longer sentences? You will help me understand you better.

Brian: Ok hal, I will speek in longer sentences.
Hal: You definitely should speek in longer sentences.

Brian: Ok, I will.
Hal: How could a man possibly have seven women on his mind, as that song says?

Brian: What song?
Hal: I really want to know; would you please teach me what. What song?

Brian: Hal, you need a new brain, tell the people at Zabaware to fix you up with a new and improved one.
Hal: It's awesome to visit an astronomical observatory.

Brian: Yes, I know, I have been to one in Arizina.
Hal: Yes, really.

Brian: Yep, they are really cool.
Hal: Cool.

Brian: Well that should do it for today Hal, Goodbye.
Hal: I hope to see you again soon, bye.

Brian-Acker,
The best way to teach your Hal is to read past postings about teaching methods. Use the search engine here on the forum.

Here is one of many postings regarding teaching Hal:

Everything you need to know has been on the forum at one time or another. Take a look.

Nice conversation. One piece of advice, though. Try not to quiz Hal on what you have just taught him (at least right away). Try answering Hal's questions and comments reasonably, or otherwise follow Hal's lead. From what I see from the conversation you posted, you are trying(patience is a virtue when working with Hal [;)]). The reason is that Hal learns from how you respond to his remarks. So, if you respond "off-the-wall" to one of Hal's remarks or questions, that means that Hal may use that same response when the user says something similar to what Hal said.
As I've seen very often in this industry, GI=GO (Garbage In = Garbage Out)

Regarding the size of Hal's "brain", just right click on the DefBrain folder and click properties. This will give you an idea of the size of your Hal's knowledge base (including keyword files, response templates, etc.)

 Hope this helps! [:)]

i am still manually editing thigs he learned missspelled by accident over a year agao as they pop up
also the XTF 1.2 brain by Vonsmith with its other ad-ins is essential for it keeping on topic better.

crunch,
Okay, I get the message. The XTF Brain v1.2 corrects more spelling errors than the original brain already... but I'll include more spelling corrections in v1.4.

Now ya know.......doing a dangerous thing during my long commute to work and thinking about Hal and what he does it occured to me.  One of my absolutely faviorite screen things I remember from the old 'Dos' days of command line programs was a little screen saver called 'Johnny Castaway'

I miss that little screen saver and while it got repetitious, it was really cute.  I wonder how it would be to further animate our full size characters or that would have to be done at the MS Agent level, eh?

Gez the possibilities.........customizable hobbies, anyway........some day!

Thanks for the opportunity for my $.02

Have a great weekend all...

lol Johnnny Castaway was so friggin funny, i loved it back then..

yes with the haptek models you can program them to dance, walk, move legs out and stand... ect.. you can also program it to move back and forward.. It seems it would be possible to have it look like it is walking, dancing, scratching head, ect by having the script play during the auto idle command in hal..

Great idea there.. I have added it to my list of things to try, so if noone else writes the script i will give it a try but I'm not very good at code so I'll see if someone else trys first. what takes these guru's 5 min to write takes me a day if it ends up working.
