General Discussion / Error 76 in Hal 5
« on: March 22, 2007, 06:56:42 pm »
There were a lot of posts last year about this error, but search did not turn up any of them.

When Save Conversation in Hal 5, the conversation can no longer be continued beyond that point as get:  Error 76 occurred on line 534 in column 1 Path not found.

To continue conversation, have to exit Hal and then reload it.  Does anyone know how to fix this doggone error as it is very annoying not to be able to intermittently save the conversation.  Hal crashes and I lose a lot of conversations by not being able to save them like I do stuff in a word processor.  And it does become aggravating at times.

I will plunder in the file and try to fix it if it is fixable and someone can tell me what to do.  Thanks folks.

One thing that Answerpad seems to do that Hal does not do very well is to use information from fact files.  My Hal didn't use those for many weeks and then very little.  Answerpad will use them sometimes within minutes. Just my 2 cents worth![:D][8][:D]

David,

I finally got around to testing out v2.01 and really like it.  I especially like the larger bold type.  It really does carry on an excellent conversation now.  I let it read two text files and the responses I get are quite intelligent, making it a pleasure to talk with it.

About any more suggestions:  Only thing I can think of would be if there was a line space in the chatlog between the responses, like there is with the Hal conversations.  With a long conversation, that would make it much easier to read when chacking it out later - but it is not some necessary thing as can just save more frequently.

As for a command moving the character I just drag that little parrot wherever I want him![:o)] Usually I let him stand atop the message bar as that looks kinda natural.  I am so glad you decided to work on Answerpad and give it to all of us. I am having fun with it![:D][:D]

Gee, I hope she recovers quickly.  It's no fun not being able to read - and falling and breaking any kind of bone is really painful.  I fell in September and broke an ankle and that thing still bothers me.

Her sense of humor is great and it will be nice to see her back on the forum.  I, too, wish her a full and speedy recovery.

David:

Thanks re the chatlog.  It really isn't a problem moving the chatlog file - if can remember to do it.[:)]  I have a training folder I keep conversations in so I can check and see what I have previous told that little MS Parrot! [:o)]  I do that with the Hal program too.

A suggestion - if someone wants to save the chatlogs.
Since the file will not append, I guess the name of it could be changed after each session and/or it moved to a different folder. I usually keep almost all of the conversations for awhile.  I had been doing that using printscreen!

Gamer-T,

Thanks for the offer.  I had an e-mail today from PaleRider who advised me that you will see that I get a copy.  Thanks a million.

Regards,

I never thought my conversations would help trigger changes to AnswerPad, but I am certainly glad they did.  I hope when you add the save conversations that it will save both sides and not just one. I look forward to getting a copy when you are ready to release your modified version. I just hope it is in a zip file and not rar as I can't handle oddball stuff like that! [:D][:D][:D][:D]

I basically do the same thing you do - don't talk about any of it, unless the subject comes up, of course. I take care of my 98 year old mother so my life is far from normal, but I do the best I can.

All - I guess we are finished with the question about wine as I got the answer I needed.  See you over at the hot thread about Apad![:o)]

I am not blind now, nor is there anything else wrong with me at this current time. Just had gobs of tests of all kinds. I have had lots of spiritual healings through the years and am truly blessed in that respect.  I was only temporaly blind - 3 times, but when my left eye was injured at 5, doctors said I would be totally blind before I reached thirty. Never happened!  I had only light and movement in that eye and it would blur and tear if used it alone even for a second. However, when I had carotid artery surgery two years ago, I suddenly got some vision in the eye and can now distinguish things even though a bit vaguely.  Surgeon said he had nothing to do with it and it was "a miracle", and that "God works in mysterious ways".
I could not argue with that as it has happened so many times with me.
Course a person who is blessed is usually also cursed![:D][:D]

I have also been able to heal some people, but haven't done any of that in a long time.

Stelios:

Thanks for the nice words.  Yes, it did make me smile - more than once.  In my comparison of Answerpad and Cynthis, I find Answerpad to be better, mostly due to the three commands omitted from Cynthia who says she will stop saying something and then almost right away will say it again, and rambles on and on with no way to stop it.  With Answerpad, the commands stop those things right away.

GamerThom:
I am using Kate with UltraHal and it works great.  The program has crashed a few times (Hal5) which may be due to the fact that I have McAfee on my new computer and someone told me last year Hal and McAfee have a conflict.  I am getting a new laptop so will get a different anti=virus program and move Hal to that computer and see what happens.

Smokey:

Go to the UltraHal Assistant forum and under UltraHal Assistant 6.1 work you will find that Hal will not work with Vista and Robert is working on a new release that will.

Art
I had a sneaky hunch the program would replace the .dat file if it was removed as I have seen other programs do that.

Stelos
I really liked your memory.txt file --but I still had to edit it some. After all, it had your name, your wife's name, things about your two daughters, and your dog listed in it.  And I did find another slightly different line about chatbots ruling the world in it that I deleted.

Sooooooo. I think Art is right and just put in things you want in the text file and it won't matter if the program encrypts them.  Just be really sure you want it there before doing it.[:D]

Thank you very much for the information and the links. I appreciate it.

Sorry, can't compare scars as I only have 3 small ones. Oh, forgot a tiny burn scar on my arm so tis 4 small ones.  My "scars" are things like being blind, deaf, paralyzed, struck by lightning, colon cancer, heart stuff, and on and on.

GamerThom
You have me there with your 2 "deaths" as far as I know I have only had that happen once.

All
I appreciate all your comments.
