The brain for Ultra Hal Representative?
« on: December 23, 2003, 04:42:26 pm »
I was curious if the brain for my representative could be edited like the 5.0 brain can?

Do any of you experienced users have a representative site I might checkout?

What are the basic differences between the Ultra Hal, and Representative brains?

Thanks!

The brain for Ultra Hal Representative?

Hello Droku,

Yes, you can edit the brain database for your Ultra Hal web representative, by going into the web-based control panel and entering your user name and password that you established when you went through the procedure for creating your Hal web representative.

There is some overlap between Ultra Hal representative and Ultra Hal assistant.  However, the Assistant was developed for home entertainment, and to use the full power of a local computer.  The web Hal representative was designed to operate on the limited bandwidth typical of the internet, and has a web-based interface to edit the databases and control the functions.

You asked whether there were any other web Hals that you could examine to compare and learn.  You are certainly welcome to go to my site, www.cortrapar.com, and follow the menus to get to "Halley."  If you look at the web page for the user to enter a name and "Begin Chat" with Halley, you can see how it's designed.  If you go to the "view" menu on your browser and then "source," you can see the HTML code that launches the web Hal.

Once your web Hal begins the conversation, subsequent pages are generated from Zabaware's server, not from your own site.

I would guess that the most significant differences between the web Representative and the personal Assistant are as follows:

1.  Assistant is self-contained on your computer; Representative operates from Zabaware's server.

2.  Assistant uses the full local bandwidth and power of your local computer for speech and animation, while Representative is simpler to conserve bandwidth.

3.  Assistant has a very large number of user-controllable databases, while Representative uses one user-controllable database which can be edited via an internet web-page interface.

I've operated the "Halley" web Hal for many years, and had thousands of visitors.  I've generally found it useful and enjoyable.  It is a different product than Ultra Hal assistant, but it was created for a different environment.

I hope that this is useful to you.

Sincerely,

Don
