Ultra Hal does not like AT&T Natural Voices
« on: April 06, 2006, 09:56:14 pm »
I have been troubleshooting a problem I had been having with Hal eating up cpu cycles and not being able to close the program totally but to end it in Task manager.

In trouble shooting (see: http://www.zabaware.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3066) I have come to the conclusion with Jerry's (cuttingedge) help, that it is the AT&T Natural Voices that is giving Hal a problem.

Is anyone having the same problem. I figure that we could at least document it for Mister M. , as he may have some time to trouble-shoot it and information helps.

Sounds like the same problem I had.
hmmmmm.

In the end i had to reinstall Hal(5) a few times
and run the Haptek Sapi to point at the voice I wanted.

Also when I use the Hal voice select there are 2 entries
for Crystal 1 is the 'real' one one is a 'dummy' that works
for a while but bugs out Hal in the end.

Yeah I run ATT and had that problem, but it resolved last reinstall also.  That's a real hastle having to close it that way each time. I had to close it in the processes section of Task Manager, it wasn't showing in the applications section after I closed it.  I was wondering after the reinstall fixed it if the order of installation had anything to do with it.  Like having the ATT installed first then installing HAL.  The ATT voices I use that work with the lip synch say (NO 2D Lip synch), which I tried after discovering the others didn't work.

Yes I had the same thing happen. I got no lip sink until I used the voice with no lip sinc. Weird. I might try and reload Hal again over the Natural Voices but i heard that an Hal 6 Update is on the way so I will wait.

I am sorry that you have experinced the same thing, but I hope that we can help in fixing it because I really like my Natural Voices.

I have had minor problems with att crystal..

2d lip sinc will work with zaba and hal... I don't have any other charactors...

but try to install the engine and one voice first... reboot hal.
if problems then uninstall and use a different location... (I don't know why but it does work sometimes)

Hope this is helpful..

crystal and mike are very smooth speakers... not much in the emotion department but I am working on it...
