Title: An Archive of Thom's site
Post by: snowman on October 21, 2009, 06:18:44 pm
Can anyone who has access to GamerThom's works prepare a memorial video and perhaps post it on Youtube. I think that would be a good idea so we can all have something to remember him by.

and perhaps share him with the rest of the world...

there are many here talented enough to do a very good job at this..

and I will help if I can.

I Archived Thom's site using a program called DownloadStudio and saved it into a single zip file which anyone can download from the link provided below.

It's full of pictures, graphics, and some other files which he intended for others to enjoy. Some were his and some were from others whom he apparently apreciated.

There are html files you can start but its better to go through the few folders manually. Anyone who was looking to add his stuff to their site should find it possible with this.

snowman,

I hadn't read your post here but I had the same idea a few days ago.

Since I couldn't find any way to get Tom's domain and download the content of his site, I created a new domain http://www.GamerThom.com , where I am going to add all the links to any site, work or other document related with Tom.

The first link in the home page points to Tom's original site. From the Whois database I understand that it will expire next September, so I am going to create a copy of it, downloading it page by page, and plan to rebuild it on the new domain; now, thanks to your zip file, this process will be much easier.

The work will take some time, because all the links to pages, images and files are absolute instead of relative (i.e. they contain the full site address) so I need to manually edit each of them, but the september deadline gives me plenty of time.

In the Virtual Humans Forum Home Page (http://www.virtualhumansforum.com) I have now created a link to this new site under the section "Graphics and Sound".

I will keep Tom's work alive on the Web as a way to give him a small dose of immortality.

Anyone who has something else made by Tom, which could be published on this site, can contact me at info@vrconsulting.it

The GamerThom site is now completed:
http://www.gamerthom.com

The original domain is meanwhile expired, so all the links to www.charctercreationsanddesignworks.us aren't working anymore.

Most pages and links are completely restored and working. Just a few links point to pages of other sites, which are not accessible now. I didn't remove these links, in order to leave the site as close as possible to the original one.

Please send a link to this site to all the people who might be interested in Tom's work.

Thank you

You did a beautiful work with his site.

It is very well done and I believe that Thom would have been flattered by what you've done.

Totally Awesome!!!!
