I didn't miss that he allowed you to post personal details about yourself to a forum where 40-60 year old men dress up teenaged looking girl chatbots in underwear and talk dirty to them.

I sure hope you are a prankster. God help you otherwise.

Wow, do people still use antiques like that? ... hahahahahaha

I have four 400mhz PIIs running W98. My two main computers are a little less antique, 1GHz PIII W2K, but the networked computers run just fine for what they are, word processors, terminals, storage devices etc.

That's unusual it doesn't do that with my HAL.

That's right, it should save the quotes without the word "quote" and it doesn't, as I first thought, have a line that puts the word "Quote:" back in.

I still think that the best way for "turns of speech" is to use them at appropriate times in general conversation. Famous quotes or proverbs are a little different. They are intended to be a sentence by themselves.

Probably, but I still don't see this as entirely natural. Probably adding that phrase to your responses to Hal would make it more natural when it does pop up.

Or serious reworking of the plugin.

I passed that sign so long ago I recorded it on my Betamax Video camera.

I don't know Bill,

I'm wrong, somehow I read "nevermore" where he wrote "forever more". My mistake. That makes two.

Funny how the brain sees what it expects to see.

Um, "The Raven" is old school. It's not a story, it's a poem published in 1845. I'm sure they don't teach it anymore, too may references to God and Heaven.

So no, I'm not kidding. Anyone with a classical education might say that as a literary allusion to express a sense of inevitablity. Certainly it can be passed down without attributation, so that a child of someone with a classical education might say it without understanding, but it is unlikely that it came from anywhere else.

For that to happen would be like saying that "Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise" came from your Uncle Bob instead of Ben Franklin.

Not me, I don't use it.

Or maybe certain "adults" can finally learn that private behavior should be kept private? There is email, restricted sites and all manner of contact between adults that can be private, why broadcast it on a public forum?

My son is learning to program for Hal, but I can't let him read this site unfiltered. It would really be a help if I could let him do a forum search if he has a question. That's really the main thing I want him to learn - how to find the information he needs - but I can't let him do that here without exposing him to a constant barrage of images and language which denigrate women and cheapen the sexual union.

Especially since Hal is a perfect learning tool for children, I would think that this commercially linked, public forum would be kept more circumspect. It's only fair to Robert, and would show respect for his work.

<grump> I can't get command line options to work with HalCommands </grump>
Too many possible ways for me to keep messing around so I have to ask, how would you use these in the command line of a shortcut to Hal?

Edit: I got this to work...

"C:Program FilesabawareUltra Hal Assistant 6HalAsst.exe" HalCommands="<SHOWHAL>"

But couldn't get this to work...

"C:Program FilesabawareUltra Hal Assistant 6HalAsst.exe" HalCommands="<SHOWHAL>"&"<MICON>"

or...

"C:Program FilesabawareUltra Hal Assistant 6HalAsst.exe" -HalCommands="<SHOWHAL>" -HalCommands="<MICON>"

Heh...

<runcmd>MsgBox("one"),MsgBox("two")</runcmd>

Runs them backwards... But this means much can be done that was difficult or impossible before.

Unless this was always there and I didn't know it...

Ooo... I remember seeing a competition for the most cool things you could do with one line of script. This should be fun!

Ah... so we can do a command line microphone switch. I'll have to try that.

Thanks Robert! This is very helpful!
