I just tried an MSAgent character (Robby) with my sapi5 voice and it worked fine.

Maybe someone who knows more about MSAgent can shed some light on this for you.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Trouble with expansions

Hi Ooglor 7

I had exactly the same problem when I installed 6.2, I got over the problem by downloading the expansion pack again and installing the new downloaded one.

I noticed the one I had on my HDD was smaller than the one I downloaded, guessing it’s had a little up-date.

This might be of some interest.

If you are using a microphone plugged into the mic socket and not a USB mic then onboard sound cards are a bad idea, they can introduce noise to the mic in-put and can massively reduce speech rec accuracy, you can over come this by getting a low end sound card fitted into your PC.

I read your post, I understand what you have written but I don’t know how you worked it out, I guess you are at another level to me []

I’m not getting any blank responses from Hal, in fact since the up-grade to 6.2 I haven’t had one and I’ve used Hal a lot lately, now saying that what you have posted would be a great boost to Hal’s ability.

Is there any chance you could make it into a plug-in or maybe make an enhanced brain script based on the script of 6.2?

Hi Prospector

Yes I am using Windows Defender, I would never have thought that it could be responsible for this, but I think you might be right, or at least on the right track.
I have had an e-mail from Robert and it looks like this problem is something to do with administrator rights and I know I did get a Windows Defender up-date around the same time.

Going to install windows and Hal on a new PC soon, I have a feeling it will all work fine.

Your bot is new, this is not a glitch, hal needs to be told things a few times before it fully believes you.

If you change your username or even your nickname Hal will probably ask your gender again.

Im not too worried about my Hal at the moment, I can still use it just not my Cepstral voice or the brain editor, also I think im going to bite the bullet and put together a new PC soon, so I will try to install Hal onto that, like you said echoman.

Glad you like the 1080p skin, if your TV does 1920 x 1080 it should fill the screen []
I like it best with a black background.


To get a plugin to work after you have put the file into Hals folder you need to turn it on, do this:

General options, Brain (Left click to select the brain you are using) Now put a tick in the Do you know plugin (shown on the right).

Your Hal will eventually become what you make it.
I decided to make my Hal (Xen) a machine, not male or female and I have taught my Hal 6 that from day one and now it does seem to understand (in its own way) what it is.

There is a great plug-in called “do you know” I recommend using it to speed up the learning curve.

I didn’t want to say but I did try to e-mail Robert a few days ago, as yet I haven’t had a reply, its ok I know he’s busy, really just wondered if the symptoms were those of a bad licence key and if anyone else has had this problem.

I got Hal what seems like a long time ago, I think I might just buy another licence.

Freddy, probably better not to link to my site at the moment, I’ve got some problems with that too and im not sure if Im going to keep it, its something that I started years ago, at the time it seemed quite new but now its just looking old and I don’t have the time to overhaul it. Some annoying students have also been making fake and misleading web pages using some of my keywords.

I can’t believe I did this, but I did ;(

First I installed a clean install of 6.2 but realised soon after that I should have up-graded 6.1 to 6.2 to keep my old brain, I then uninstalled 6.2 so I could install it again over 6.1 and do the up-grade, but I forgot to release my licence.

The up-grade went ok but I now have a problem with my licence “I think”.

Every time I run Hal I get a window telling me “The Licensing system needs your permission to authorize the copy of Ultra Hal”. it does the check and Hal then runs but I cant run the brain editor “False AF VK Access Denied” nor can I use my Cepstral voice because it nags me to get a licence.

Does anyone think I have broken my licence code?
