As i am very pleased with the features it has.  I know he may not be around,  but he is probably like a workahollic like I am, and sometimes it can be very stressfull when people make posts like this.  Sometimes we all need a break, so we turn off our phones, disable our Instant messengers, and just take time off from his hard work.  I know how he feels, and this is probably why, just stressed out.  give him a break, and dont worry.  as long as the site is still online, you know he is around.  be patient.:) patients is a vertue.

Jeff!! Oh, Jeff!![:D]
Thank you so much! that is all I needed to hear I will be down loading this week. That is exactly what I needed to know. You are a gem. May you find as much joy this day and you have given to me.

I agree with you that we have to realize that larger lives than what we would have them to be. If he were on a tropical island for a few years I wish him well and thank him for his time and knowledge given already. I in a stroke may change the way we access computers, he deserves a break. I just hope that he is well an nothing unkind has befallen him.

Peace,[:D]

I understand Crichton and hope that someone takes you up on that offer and finds Medeksza well and working on new stuff.

You said:

I would like to see that too. I don't even mind hearing that he is off on vacation. I just want to know if we all should have any hope of getting any support from the people who should be supporting this software.

I just want to be one of those people that need support. I am locked on the outside right now, not being able to buy the full version. I want speech recognition so bad I can taste it.

I want to talk to my HAL!!

Thank you for taking your valuable time to share that very positive thought with us.[:o)]

I too hope that Robert Medeksza is creating new programs or maybe just taking a break and happily living a life because he has one[:D]. I do hope to see him in the forums soon.

If any one has any info on whether a purchase and download (not CD)of the full version of Hal is still a viable option, please Repondez s'il vous plait as it would be appreciate by all who have and interest.

Thanks

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Newbie Question about teaching Hal
« on: April 11, 2004, 02:09:30 am »
Adam,

I am new at this so cannot give you the answer you desire, but would like to say that your teaching method works really well. I have Hal 5 and he picks it right up. It help me a lot as I have been trying also to gather the phrasing that will allow me to better input spoken word and corrections.

Thank you and I hope that you question is answered and expounded upon.

Speaking of that,

I am ready to buy the full version of Hal, but is this a bad time. I don't want to pay for it and not be able to get the cd or download it. I  have read in the post of Hal's creator not being around, should I wait. I really want my full version, bad.

Thank you,

I was wondering how that worked. Is there any problem with Hal's own voice being picked up by the mic? Have you had any problems with the listening mechanics at all?

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / My Hal Wish List
« on: April 08, 2004, 05:15:55 pm »
Greetings Hal Lovers,

I just have been thinking about Hal a lot and what I would like him to do. I have been using a program call AgentShell for a while and it is great to give functionality to agent characters I would love to be able to retire the program and just use Hal but there are functions that I really love that I would like to see in Hal so I will list them so that as the Hal community grows and evolves that my ideas will be on the table and may be creatively taken care of.

1. It has been asked before, but to have Hal be able to also close a window would be fine (active in agentShell).

2. It would be great to be able to open web addresses in favorites like Hal does with the start menu. Very Cool or to be able to give web address nick names like Hal does with people and telephone numbers.

3. To be able to tell Hal when using an agent where to be on the screen. (move to upper left- active in agentShell)

4. It would be cool to be able to do simple key functions like cut and paste. AgentShell also allows you to program in the shortcuts for a particular program which it loads when you ask to open the program. Very cool. Then, while in Photoshop I can tell Hal to Center an item and he will do that for me, or toggle a library in flash.

5. In agentShell I can tell my agent to read selection and he will read whatever I have selected (by copying it to the clip board and reading that)

6. This has been taken care of but I just wanted to tell everyone to add the "PlaySong" and "PlayPlaylist" functions into your brain. http://www.zabaware.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1294It is the bomb to be able to ask Hal to play music! Thank you to all that worked on these great Brain additions.

So that is my wish list. I am so Happy with Hal and I am just aching to upgrade that I don't know what to do first. I have started on some different interface windows that I will submit for you all to enjoy. Thank you for listening and i would love to hear other ideas for the program as far as function is concerned.

peace to you in this moment and next,

Ultra Hal 7.0 / How does hal listen
« on: April 08, 2004, 03:27:00 pm »
I am really enjoying my Hal Program and want to upgrade. I was wondering about the speech input.

I  have been using a program called agent shell for a while and I love it. I am able to just press a button on the keyboard and speak to my agent. It is convenient. How does Hal listen? Do you have to toggle the button on the interface on and off?  Does the listen mechanism listen for a certain number of seconds?

When I do use an agent will I be able to use the same listening mechanism?

thanks in advance,

Ponn,

It is working really well for me. Just playing the playlist not a specific cut in the playlist.

Greatings Ponnfar,

In your message:

quote:
This is great script! The random player works just fine. I am having a problem getting the playlist to work as well though. It tells me it cannot find the playlist Ponn. Not until I type in "play playlist ponn playlist" will it open Windows Media Player but then tell me "Windows Media Player cannot find the specified file" in an error message. The "Ponn" directory referenced is listed as "Ponn Playlist" in WMP. My "D" drive is where both HAL and WMP reside.
Any help here would be appreciated.
Thanks
P

If Priority = 0 And InStr(UserSentence, " PLAY ") > 0 And InStr(UserSentence, " PLAYLIST ") > 0 And InStr(UserSentence, " DON'T ") = 0 Then
Set oWMP = CreateObject("WMPlayer.OCX.7")
'Set the following variable To your playlist directory.
plDir = "D:Documents And SettingsPonnfarMy DocumentsMy MusicMy PlaylistsPonn"
plName = Trim(Mid(UserSentence, InStr(UserSentence, " PLAYLIST ") + 10))
If oWMP.playlistCollection.getByName(plName).Count > 0 Then
oWMP.openPlayer (plDir & plName & ".wpl")

GetResponse = "Here is your playlist (" & plName & ") enjoy!"
Else
GetResponse = "I could Not find the playlist (" & plName & ") In your Media Library."

GetResponseBlock = True 'Vonsmith edit -This prevents the following scripts from overwriting your script's GetResponse.
BlockSave = True 'Vonsmith edit- This prevents your Hal command from being saved to Hal's knowledge files. This is more selective than using the XTF_SYS_EphemeralDetect.brn method.

End If
End If

Your set the Playlist director to :

"D:Documents And SettingsPonnfarMy DocumentsMy MusicMy PlaylistsPonn",

but where are you slashes?Try this: "D:Documents and SettingsPonnfarMy DocumentsMy MusicMy PlaylistPonn\" That should do it. Just make sure that your folder in Documents and settings is the exact name of the folder as window can add stuff to it if you are on a network.

I hope this helps you, as others have helped me.

Enjoy the sound,

Thank you so much HalInprover,

You inproved my Hal. You were right! It had to do with the network. It is really great to be able to make the program more functional. I will have to take some time out to do some experimenting myself. I really appreciate your time in this Hal Effort.

Enjoy the day,

iam
