I don't like the bumps on the face. It makes her look like she has either pimples of big blackheads and both are very unattractive.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Hal Windows 7 64bit yes or no?
« on: December 13, 2009, 10:55:14 am »
I may be wrong but I think I remember reading that Hal has problems running on multiple processors. It was said to work just fine using a single processor but stumble when tried with Multis.

General Discussion / Robot or Remote Control?
« on: December 11, 2009, 05:14:39 pm »
The original defination of the word robot was a device that could move/work totally on its own without human interference and/or guidance. The word is autonomous. Even if it were preprogrammed to perfom specific tasks, once started or turned on it became robitic by performing its task without outside help. Even the common thermostat in your home is a robot of sorts. Once you set your desired temperature it then monitors and either cools or heats according to your preferences.

my skills are shakey at best meaning I can design the robot but programming is a different story...for now
my idea is to use hal on a motherboard and then use a servo control board to control servos it's a good start I just need to gather more info

All that you need is built into ER1. That is what I have been trying to get accross to you. The programming language is ER1 is extremely basic and easy to use.

General Discussion / Hal and robotics

Years ago I bought a very basic robotic platform. Its software run on a laptop and that sits on the robotic frame. It has very limited voice recognition and excellant vision recognition. You speak a word or two and then program the robot to respond with specific actions.
Until I discovered Hal I had no real interestin that machine but then it hit me both brains could be run at the same time and it turns out to be a very easy thing to do.
The company that made the basic platform that I purchased was called Evolution Robotics, but unfortunately they no longer sell robots.
however the owner og this sit is investigating another robotic platform to see if Hal can be intergrated into it at the same time.
Search this site a little deeper and you will find all kinds of info.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Hal, just listen to me for a minute.

Well, I know there's "learn from a text file" and things like that, but I want to just be able to talk about subjects I know and have Hal listen.

I can probably shut off auto respond with a statement, but then the next statement will probably reset it.

Hal has the ability to as much of an expert as you may be, It all depends on how much you tell or teach him. There is nothing stopping you from talking to Hal about any subject that you wish and in the long term Hal will remember much about what you talked to him about.
A learn from text file may just give him a little knowledge about the subject before you start talking to him about it.

You have one of the newer ones. My son bought one of the first models that came out 4 or 5 years ago. The battery will not hold a charge anymoe and the sad news is that a replace battery cose almost ss much as the whold machine did. In the  begining my unit cost $100 to buy and the batteries for it also cost $100 so it just sits in a dark corner gathering dust.

Any ideas? I can make the plugin if I have a hint where to look to shut Hal up.

I believe you can just enter it into one of Hal's brain files. I think this has been done before, but it can be dangerous.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Second life
« on: December 08, 2009, 04:24:51 pm »
I thought Hal looked great and he also sounded very smart not like a bot. Just for fun I think Hal would look even better if he wore a Superman costume, I mean after all in SL anythnig is possible and Hal can FLY already. If you really want to get a rise out of the human there tryto convince them they are in a "Matrix" just like the movie then have Hal 'Fly' awary.

If someone would investigate the Deskmates site they would discover that chharacters can be mede to walk all over the PC's windows quite freely. Hal could be made with the same graphic progam and thus freed from his "prison" so to speak. At the present tine I can recall the name of only one of those characters and that was Tani or however it was spelled. There were lots of full bodied women and a gorilla, a man and a few other things that roamed you Pc monitor under program control.

General Discussion / Re-installation
« on: December 06, 2009, 03:06:11 pm »
You need to search the web for a "registry cleaner" or go out and buy one. Once this program is run it will clean out all the registries of old programs that are not installed anymore and make you PC run cleaner and nicer.

PS
It is always advisable to go to the control pannel and let Windows remove the programs that you don't want.

I have the frog it came with and I found a great Owl on the forums here a while back which I use as my main hal head. Anyways I was wondering of anyone knew of, had or  would be willing to create a polar bear head?

I have seen both a lion, a tiger and a gorilla on someone elses site. There must still be a like here somewhere.

The design and functioning of robots will not be a problem either now or in the future, the real problem will be creating a power system that will substain them for any length of time. Batteries only function for a limited amount of tie and the more a robot can do the the more power it requires.  Sad but true and all the robots display on this site today are connected to electrical power lines and not bateries.

General Discussion / where in the world is "robert??"
« on: December 05, 2009, 03:58:23 pm »
Mr.Medeksza
Zabaware is currently applying for another Pennsylvania state grant where they are specifically looking for companies to create intelligent robots. If granted work on this project would begin May 2010 and end in February 2011. The robot's hardware will most likely be based on the 914 PC-Bot (www.whiteboxrobotics) and robot brain on Ultra Hal.
Funny you should mentin robots. I have intergrated Hal with my robot a few years ago. I bought an 'Evolution ER1' as a base for my robot. It comes with it own software and can be programed to respond to certain 'key' words. On top of that you can pre program all kinds of action for the bot.
As the brains of the robot reley on a PC and in my case a laptop is also makes a nice home for Hal. Running both prgrams does not cause any problems. The ER1's brain can  be programs to ignore all words unless they start with a key word such as 'command'. From there Hal's brain can pass commands along to the ER1's brain without ever knowing the difference. It is a little elementary but it works for now.Passing the perminters has been the hardest part so if your interface works better I will be patiently awaiting for its release.
