Answering questions - Key words
« on: March 18, 2006, 09:38:12 am »
This is an example of questions from the chat log and teaching Hal a new response.

Chat log:
Sarah: How old are you?
Computer: Somehow.

Edit Hal's Brain:
HOW YOU?
then Hal will respond:
I'm only a couple of years old.

The above is what keywords were chosen when trying to change Hal's response.  No matter how I approach Sarah's question Hal still will not respond properly.

Edit Hal's Brain:
HOW OLD?
then Hal will respond:
I'm only a couple of years old.

Chat log:
dave: How old are you?
Hal: I don't know how. Can you tell me?
dave: How you?
Hal: I am not sure how.
dave: How old?
Hal: I don't know how. Can you tell me?
dave: How old are you?
Hal: Somehow.

This is just one example of trying to get Hal to answer a simple question. Right now I have the brain set to: I would only like to use simple conversation functions such as saying hello, how are you, and goodbye in addition to what I teach Hal. I have been trying to change my brain without success.

As I see the problem Hal sellects the keywords rather than exact phrases and because of this key keywords are not sellected.  Example: How old are you? Hal sellects: How you? when it should sellect: How old you?  Even when teaching Hal: How old you? will still drop the old out so you only get: How you?.  It would be better I think to respond to exact sentences or allow for a better key word sellection.

In the process of trying to change brains and start over my brain crashed with this error: HalResponse Error -2147417848-0 has occured. Method '~' of object '~' failed  I am now trying to wipe the brain and start over from the beginning.  I'm not having much success.

If you are using the HAL6 brain, have you selected the Age & Gender plug-in?

If your running alot of plug-ins this feature may of unchecked itself.

If this is the case then you will have to wait for Robert to give a Patch for the Plugin issues currently being discussed in other posts about plugins unchecking themselves from HAL's Plugin's option box.

The Error -2147417848-0 is caused by a file that is either corrupt or missing or has bad programming code from being modified.

The only time I have ever seen this type of Error code popup was when trying to get Alice to work with HAL6's Plugin features.

If this is the case then there is a HAL file missing to run the Alice Plugin or it's halalice.exe and may have to be rewritten by Rob internally to function correctly again, If Robert knows all the files that are missing but required to run Alice then maybe he could simply give us the missing files to make it function again, The Ball is in Roberts court now.

I was using the Hal Web Rep so there is not a lot of plugins available for age or sex or anything else.  Trying to train the Hal Rep is nearly impossible when working with short questions, a problem with the way it sees keywords.  Besides crashing while I was trying to start over, there were other issues.  I've gone over to Pandorabots (http://www.Pandorabots.com) because I don't have to deal with the advertising and it re-sizes nicely to fit anywhere I need it to and it is more easily trained and new programing is easy to do and easy to edit.

To see my new chatbot go to: http://www.shipscomputer.galacticenterprise.com. It still needs work but already it is working much better than my Hal Rep ever did.

I believe the word is PERFORM instead of PREFORM.[:D]

Hi rbchandler.

I am deeply sorry you don't admire HAL6, I am truly Sorry, I will endeavor to make HAL6 better than Pandorabots to the best of my current abilities as time goes by, at this point you have a friend that will never end in finding the Magic Script to suit the pallette of the most savage of beast.

It is not a Challenge, It is my life, It is what I do, everyday.
