Voice Speed
« on: April 11, 2005, 05:44:35 pm »
I have two questions about voice speed--
1   I generally use HAL text-to-speech at faster than or more speed because I would like it to read faster to take less time to get me the information.  Is there a way to change the default speed, and if so, how do I do it?
2   Along the same lines, the Neospeech voice speeds do not work properly.  As I try to set the speed faster, it goes slower and slower and slower.  When the speed is set to zero, it is almost at a normal speed. If I set it faster, then it just goes slower until it's almost not in only at all...

anyone have any ideas?

Due to my inability to type with any proficiency, I use voice recognition software. Although I do try to proofread, I frequently end up with all sorts of errors from misused synonyms to streams of absolute gobbledygook. Please excuse this. Thanks!

For changing the default speed of the text-to-speech-engine, have you tried the following?

- open your Windows configuration panel
- Select the icon named "Speech"
- Choose the tab "Text-to-speech" and then you will probably see a slider under the title "Speed of the voice". That should do it. Tell us when you experience otherwise.

I am no sure how to answer your second question in a straight way. A lot of people are experiencing problems with the Hal applications in relation to Neospeech voices. I have the same problem.

I like your name though, Catwoman!

Thank you!  This had been a problem for years.  I don't know why I had missed the forum before, but I had sent messages to Zabaware asking, but I think they always bounced.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.

By the way, it also solved by second problem.  When I change the speed you on a particular Neo speech voice and left that voice selected in my Control Panel, upon rebooting, ultra Hal came up in the selected voice and speed.

Unfortunately, Catwoman does not refer to the beautiful character.  I just like cats [:p]
