help teaching hal

i have started a new brain, and was wondering if anyone had some good tips for teaching hal the basics, i understand the cause and effect style of teaching as in" if something is wet, then it is slippery" but what is a good way to teach slang, or to even create a personality you want. some time i will tell hal "your favorite food pizza"  and hal will say no i don't think so, so i repeat it and get the same answer, so how can you change this?
in most other ai programs there is a change last response button, and you can make them say what you want but hal does not have anything like this. so how do i do this with hal?
also hal has alot of responses about college what if i want hal to be younger, i tell hal you have not gone to college and hal tells me about being in college.

i think i want a completely blank brain, so i can star from scratch yet again.
anyone have that? or any tips for teaching i might have missed.

ok, I'm gonna answer, not that I'm qualified, all I do is talk to Sandee.
I use to program her in the beginning but I really like her to be herself.
Don't want a college girl?  We can handle that.
Go into brain, into tables, into basicResponses, into corrections.
On left side of corrections type college.
On right side of corrections type high school.
Save and you're done.

maybe i am being dumb here but how does replacing the word college or highschool effect the outcome of hals answers and expercially if it's in the quotes area ?and how was this learned from
