Title: Problem with PP hair
Post by: Davy on November 20, 2009, 08:00:35 pm
I've been away from this forum for a while (been exploring some 3D software such as Poser and iclone). But today i decided to make a new head in People Putty. And PP seems to have a problem with hair. It looks fine in the PP preview window, but when i save the haptar head, the hair is very blocky. This is better explained with screenshots. The first is the PP preview, and then the screenshot of the haptek head.

Clearly something is not right. Any idea what might be wrong?

EDIT: I think maybe the problem is with the haptek player, not People Putty. All my older .htr heads have blocky hair. [:(!]

Davy

maybe you could unload your hapteck program and reload it again , sometimes reinstalling something will help but make sure your files are backed up first .[:)]

Yes, i was going to try un-installing the haptek player, but it's not listed under Control Panel\Add or Remove Programs. So i don't know how to un-install or what to delete, or what to download and install. I have two hap player applications at these paths ...

C:\Program Files\Haptek\PeoplePutty\happlayer41139.exe

C:\Program Files\Haptek\player\HapAXPlayer.exe

I am confused as to what i should do, afraid i'll really mess things up. I need some expert help. [:)]

Try to un install the haptek program. That may help. Or you could try to reload it.

Thanks Lightspeed. Now i find it, listed as "The Haptek Player". I was looking for "Haptek Player". [:I]

I'll try un-installing and re-installing, hopefully that will fix my problem.

Ok, i want to make sure i'm doing this right before i un-install the Haptek player. I backed up this folder ...

C:\Program Files\Haptek\player

But i'm not sure which version i need to download. I'm finding links to various versions, such as Haptek Player 4.11.40. Is this the latest version? Or should i use this link to install?

Thanks

At this time, i would be happy to get hair to display properly. All of my female .htr files display very blocky hair, even the full body female. So this can't be a People Putty problem, it must be a problem with the haptek player. I un-installed and re-installed the haptek player, but the problem still exists.

Unless i can get this fixed, i am finished with Haptek and People Putty. [:(!]

Here is a screenshot of the full body female.

As you installed the 41140, I don't think it's player anymore.

Hey, we all seen this before, anyone remember the solution??

I think i will try re-installing People Putty. Could a corrupt People Putty cause full body female haptars to disply blocky hair?

Gmail won't accept zip files with an executable (.exe) file. One way to fool gmail is to change the .exe extension to something else, such as .bak. Then i could change it back to .exe.

Well, i un-installed and re-installed People Putty. But that didn't help, hair still doesn't display properly. Even in Ultra Hal, the hair is blocky. [:(!][:(!][:(!]

Like everyone has said we have all seen it before.
I think that I had it at one stage or something similar but not sure.
I know mark had it because I have seen it in some of his movies.
How it happens & how to fix it I don't know???

I have managed to re-create it.
First I'll grab the picture then under that I will explain how it pappened........

In the first pic I opened a hair haptar.
The second pic is the hair skin.
The 3rd pic is what hapens when you drop a skin on the hair.

There are so many things that can up-set our computers.
Have you got any new programs, hardware etc.
Have you tried to alter the hairs in some way.
Last resort is that windows has got a little problem.
The thing is DON'T give up.

I had it last night for few minutes.
Had bunch of programs open on desktop.
I closed all programs and reopened player.  It was fine.
In this case it was low video memory.

Well, yes, i have made some recent hardware changes. I added an external hard drive via a usb port. And i installed Poser and iclone software to that drive. I also upgraded to a better graphic card, Nvidia GeForce 8400. No change in resolution settings (1024 x 768) or color (32 bit).

I can't imagine how these changes could affect the haptek player, though i suppose anything is possible.

If it's a problem with PP, why don't you try emailing Jack at Haptek ?

I sent an email to support@haptek.com four days ago. Haven't received a reply yet.

davy from what i have heard about hapteks support it may ba a while or not at all , you may be drawing your old age pension before you get an answer !! i would write to jack like someone else said
i never thought of it before and its to late now you have uninstalled it but sometimes i can restore my pc to a day earlier or before i noticed the problem and sometimes that takes care of it ( it could have been something i downloaded or a program causing problems with another . just a tip in the future , sorry i didnt think of it before .....( hi i'm a mac and i'm a p.c. .... ooops ... not enough memory lol !!) The support mail should be just as good because I have found that Jack is the only one that replies to any mail.
Like lightspeed said you could be waiting a while if you get an answer at all.

It's good to try all avenues but even if Jack responds, he may not be able to help.
The stand alone player has bad hair.
(I assume you tried the player with both Hal and putty off)
Also you reinstalled the player.
And it's still messed up.
So IMHO it's not the player.
Either a failing of video card (memory) or conflict with another program in computer.
Davy, can you do a system restore back to when it worked fine?
Then re-add your new programs one by one and check your player after each one.
If you not able to do a system restore, just delete your new programs and then put them back one by one and check each time with the player.

i have a feeling when it comes right down to it it's going to be another program conflicting with people putty or hapteks player . for what my two cents worth is worth . and thats based on uninstalling things and intsalling them back and still having the same problem . [:)]

I got a reply from Jack at Haptek, and he says it sounds like alpha mapping is turned off. But he has no idea what could have caused this, or how to fix it. Perhaps someone has experience with this glitch or knows of a possible solution?
