dgher1,
Thanks for posting that, it looks interesting. I have the impression that I'll like hal better but would like to see how it is.

It's got some cool information on how to make your own agent, maybe make one out of yourself or a friend with bitmaps.

I downloaded it too - so far I haven't worked out how to get the Poser character to show if there is one - or is it just the bot software and you add your own Agent ?

Sorry to disappoint all of you on this, but it does not
actually use Poser figures per se. You have to save bitmap
images of your Poser figure and then go through the process
of building an MS Agent Character file from those using
MS Agent ACE Tools. Lots of incremental pose steps need to
be done to get all of the animation frames you need to build
a convincing character in MS Agent format. [V]

BTW..... I installed it just to try it out in conversation.
Hate to say it, but even as a freebie it's a bust. I don't
even think it's on a par with the old Win Alice chatbot. [:(]

I think the Baron of PlanetVixens will need to do a lot
more work on it before it will really be interesting. [B)]

Gamer,

In all fairness to the Cynthia program,
you've only been fooling with it for a week.

As is with most chatbots, they rarely perform
well "right out of the box" and take lots of
interaction and conversations over time before
they begin to show any progress.

I've found that this one does remember everything
that is told to it.

True, the graphics character though nicely done,
it static except for the mouth but as I've mentioned
before, I'm more concerned how the AI works instead
of how a character might look.

Granted, the x commands to allow it to open various
programs are a bit cumbersome, but I think that the
conversational aspects of the program might prove to
be interesting, over time.

IMHO, It's not a bad program considering the price![8D]
In the world of AI it's the thought that counts!

To these two points, I will concede & agree with you Art. [;)]

I guess I'm just overly used to Hal. After all I don't think
there is another bot anywhere that has as many configurable
options as Robert's creation. Spoiled would be a good way to
put it, what with all the plug-ins and being able to create and
edit alternative brain files with different profiles & knowledge,
not to mention all the optional character representations. [:D]

Ihave downloaded cynthia and from heuristic analysis point of view, itis considered one of the best bot in its field as it is based on the  programming of "answerpad".  She is easily trainable, and gives reasonable responses.
The only thing I can not do is to attache my own choice of voice to the ms agent I choose.
Pros: free; low resource demanding; no installation; it can accept feed files (fact files). It can easilly be  copied to a usb flash memory stick.
Cons: the chosed ms agent is not very customizable.

in summary: should you give it a nice try.

sn

sincerely,
Stelios

I have just finnished investigating...

its based on the Answerpad/infobot program. you can get the sourcecode in{Visualbasic} for it....

The ms agent characters have been created with MS agentcharacter Editor / poser.... {always a good character creation COMBO}

old program/with new face ... Preety good too...

this program can run along side hal. as long as you choose different voices. they will even converse together..... turn up the mic and speakers and listen to them chat.

Hummmm.......
Sounds interesting.
I never ran the speech recognition, but I'd do so with good enough reason.

I do have hal6 on desktop and hal5 on laptop.
Wonder if they could converse intelligently between them?

[8D]

(wonder who they'd talk about?)

GrAPHICS Aside... its hard to switch back to "lower standerd" agent characters.... i believe that you can use people putty much the same ways as poser.. you could create an agent character using graphics / animations created with peoplePUTTY the files need to be outputted into BMP/JPEG etc.. to be recompiled with agent character editor....

when i was first into AI i was well into MASH and the agentRING>..

AN ai is only as good as the data you feed him....
