I already tried it Mark, and I thought it was pretty good.   I definately won't be wasting my money on Vista, I'll just waste it on Windows 7 at some point !  But yeah I will probably try out the new Releases Candidate at some point - a free year is pretty good really.

I am trying it. It's sorta like Puppy Linux in the taskbar.

It is a pain trying to find files, though.

I tried it and it wouldn't start up right every time for me so I took it off and went back to Vista Ultimate. I love Vista now. So handy for everything.

I was helping a friend the other day on her computer and it had XP on it, I was getting frustrated because it was slow and not very handy like Vista is. But I got through it.

But if I am still around when they perfect Windows 7, I'll probably see if I can try it. I liked the options on display mode and other cool things about it, the beta version just wasn't stable enough to run well on my computer. And that is odd because Dell's are able to run just about anything well.

Yes, overall it reminds me of Linux too, I think they copied it.

And what about the system requirements? Upgrading the OS usually means upgrading the CPU (means changing the computer). Means buying new software versions. Microcomputing is a wonderful business.[:D]

If you can run Vista, you can run 7.[:D]

I did it because:

1. I'm adventurous
2. It's free until june 2010.
3. Just to see if it was better.

It's missing movie maker, but you can download it.[8D]

Does it have a different e mail system than express or should I look to Thunderbird or comperable?
I have a comp that needs seperate email that is prvt as to seperate it from a .GOV system for somebody else.

EDITED, because I had a question mark at the end and this is fact not a question Apologies.[8]

You will have to get your own email program, but Earthlink seems to not want to receive mail. But it does the same thing on my XP laptop.

Jack
I have two laptops one is a 3 giga hertz with Vista and the other is only rated min mega hertz with XP on it. So far the little one loads the operating system much faster than the Vista maching even though the vista machine has 3 to 4 times faster cpu. I think there must be something else causing your slow down.

That has to be the case Bill, cause my computer is like a bullet. I have not had any problems with Vista since I got it on this computer 2 years ago. I will admit though that XP runs screen savers a little bit more smoothly. But that is all I can see from my viewpoint. It could be that I just got a real good computer:

I slapped 4 GB of memory in it some time ago also and that helped that speed as well.

I think it's just a compatibility issue. Some PC's work better that others with different OS's.

Jack, I just got a simple Compaq running a 2.7 gHz processor (AMD)(not a Dual core)
and 2 GB of memory. Vista worked fine. I just want to try Windows 7. I can go back if need be.  [:D]

Very interested in your experience, Mark. I have a 6 year old Pentium IV 2.4 GHz with 2 GB RAM. My XP is very happy and has a lot of place to play in this environment (no virtual memory needed).

Sure to be disappointed by a cramped Vista. But Windows 7? You are our beta tester.[8D]
