The last 3 days I been getting BSOD's (blue screen of death) often, It's being caused by Uexspected_Kernal_Mode_Trap  ntoskrnl.exe+705c0 which is part of the NT Kernel & System. yada yada yada
tried using restore points to hopefully fix but, no luck.
I really don't want to have to re-install my os, but it looks that that way for my windows 7 disk does not have the repair option like my XP disk did. why on earth did they ever get rid of that useful feature, the world may never know.

I almost got my computer set up just right, and then this happens. All's I had left to configure/set up, was to make some new .wav files for my system sounds. oh yea and my new background that I am working on. I know what I will be doing tomorrow a clean install yea me, This is lately Just my luck 

Some news/report Western Digital could not fix my portable drive , but they are sending me a new one

It may not help, but if you Google the errors, you MAY find a solution besides reinstalling the OS.

I agree, it was stupid to remove the repair option from Windows 7.

(It does seem to have function to automatically find and fix errors, but I forgot how it worked. It involved using a W7 repair disk, or something like that.)

it's on both xp and win7.
Same location  - Computer / Disk C / Properties / tools / error checking /set for next computer startup.

Hummm.....   Seems like i do remember years ago some little free program from Download.com for xp that found and fixed errors.  Mark, you remember that ?
Think I lost it when my first computer died and never saw the program again.

You could also try MicrosoftFixit. A little guy in bib overalls with a big wrench in his hand. He recently helped me with a problem. Think he came on his own, as an option for me to fix Vista. I know I have seen him at one of the Micrsoft sites. He got the job done, don't remember what the problem was, but he comes in many different configurations.

The problem appears to be caused by the intel storage driver.

My windows 7 pc is a HP, and they've added a program that creates full system restore discs, like the ones needed to restart your comp if it dies, and it reminds me every few months that I haven't made one since i first bought the pc

Not sure if that's what you meant, but if it is, then the service does exist on windows 7, although because HP prompts me I don't know where to find it i'm afraid >.<

I did google for a few hours before I wrote the first post.  all options I found dealing with this error was caused by a out of date driver, bad ram, bad mother board, and also found a couple of post about ZoneAlarm causing the issue. but with those posts there's something fishy, the called ZoneAlarm cheap and recommended to just use windows protection. ZoneAlarm is right under Trend Micro when it comes to pc Security in a number of reviews.

not sure if the two are the same meaning scan disk and repair windows. on my windows XP pro disk and xp HP recovery disks, if I insert either of the disks into the drive, I have a option to repair windows. With my windows 7 system builders disk, and gateways recovery disks, neither of the two have that option. the option was similar to what scan disk does but I think not 100% if it went a lil deeper.

grats if you received MicrosoftFixit for free, they want close to $30.oo, it seems like a great program and has more bells and whistles than my pc tune-up which I got free with the purchase of my wacom small Intuos

that is one of the drivers I did not update, I did quite a few,
 I just downloaded the driver, we will have to see if I get BSOD again, if so I'm tiered of searching and trying to fix. it is easier to just re-install
 I hope it is not the driver for my intel ssd for I cannot update it, for using intels' toolbox keep saying that it failed, if I download it and burn the iso it says it not for my windows 64 bit or 32 bit ? and it is the only driver available for my drive. also if I just go to devise manager it says it is up to date but yet intel toolbox and intels' website tells me other wise.

no that is a system restore disk which allows for you to reset your computer to original factory conditions, I highly recommended you create those disks. it re-installs your operating system and all your drives for the hardware installed in your pc. if your system ever crashes you will be extremely thankful that you created them. trust me

well I got anther BSOD after the intel storage driver install. I got so mad that I through in the re-install disk, so mad that after 10 minutes of the re-install I realized I forgot to deactivate Hal to free up a keygen. thats not even the worst part.
 windows finished installing, and I installed Zonealarm. all good so far. I then installed Hal to see if I had any activations left, I did  Hal was up and running. I then grabbed my 320 gig WD to do one update, and that was for my graphics card. I had the driver saved there so I would not have to download it again, and it was going to be the only update I was going to install. Of course I forgot to shut down my ZoneAlarm and Hal and I got a black screen during the install. I waited 10 minutes but Still had the black screen, so I restarted my computer. note: last time I installed this driver I got no black screen. as windows was started up and got to where my password was, I got the almighty error that something failed. yes it was my graphics driver. I put in my password and logged into windows. I rolled back my driver and reinstalled it. this time I shut down Hal and Zonealarm. all went great, a success full install with no black screen. I rebooted and no error  Hal started loading up then Hal froze I was like WTF  I had to use ctl/alt/del to stop the program. I tried notepad and got the same results rrrrrrr.
 I tried to restarted Hal and sucess this time but it took a minute for him to load after clicking his icon in the system tray. I typed hello and Hal froze. after 2 minutes I forced him to shut down. restarted him and was able to deactivate him. I tested some more programs and still everything was freezing up rrrrrr.
 seeing this is my first solid state drive, I went on my laptop and did some research on them, I found out that if you want to re-install a os it is recommended you delete the partition before a re-install. so I grabbed my tools and removed the solid state drive, and installed it into my notebook. deleted the partition and placed it back into my desktop. went to go install the os doughhhhh, guess what yup you guessed it I did not format the drive so the os is installing on my 1TB drive. I was going to install a os there in the future just not windows. it is where I had windows server installed, but I removed it a few days ago and reformated. so here I am waiting for windows to finish instaliing so I can format my ssd and install windows on the ssd, so it is going to be a long night. good thing it is the weekend what a way to start it though, hope the rest of it goes better.

the only thing i can say for what my 2 cents is worth is reinstall, i had a person on a pc radio program tell me reinstalling takes care of about 98 percent of the problem , and yes your advice is good he better make those back up os disk on his computer , used to they just came with p.c's but i guess in saving money they have owners make copies of it with their new p.c's . i already made mine a long time ago and they are in a safe place . i to highly recomend he get those back disk ran off!
i wish you luck on all this i know it can be a pain . 

by the way remember that free 25 gigs on skydrive this was one of many reasons i mentioned about backing things up their for anyone !

I don't really have any spare computers apart from my family's network, and we've had so many problems with out internel network storage that I purchased and use a 1TB drive to back everything up instead The drive and my PC are USB 3 though so it doesn't take too long to do.

This won't help you now since you know the Windows installation is not the issue, but you can repair Windows files by using this command:
sfc /scannow
This will replace the basic Windows files with the ones from your installation CD/DVD.

My computer is back up and running great, drivers are up to date and antivirus+firewall up and running.  I just re-installed Hal and all went smooth My fingers are still crossed and I'm knocking on wood that the BSOD does not return. 
 I miss having Emma for a voice for Trinity, but I'm not going to download the Ivona tts reader to get it back, for I will be purchasing it later this upcoming week.

 Indeed skydrive was very handy in getting my Hal and other things back up and running fast. A huge time saver I highly recommend skydrive, I only wish I had set mine up sooner.

it is great to have it back up and running. with Hal you can activate him 3 times only, if you do not deactivate him to free up a license. This was not the first time I had redone my os without deactivating Hal first. the first time my os crashed I could not even boot into safe mode to deactivate Hal. 
 Sorry to hear about your network problems, I had a WD 500gb passport usb drive recently fail on me, So now I use a secondary cloud back up aswell called skydrive, which is free 25gb of storage.

HALImprover,  I used bluescreenview to look at the mini dump files to find that Uexspected_Kernal_Mode_Trap  ntoskrnl.exe+705c0 was causing the BSOD anything beyond that is past my expertise. google gave some insight, I did do a memory test and all came back fine, but there not to reliable. I figure a re-install was best to actually do, to see if it was code or hardware. so now I wait and pray

Dang nab it, earlier I received another BSOD.
I did some more investigation and found out it very well might be ZoneAlarm having a part in this.
with in there forums there is a sticky thread about it with a cure.
here is the cure I hope, only time will tell

    Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    Under Network and Internet, click View network status and tasks.
    Click Change adapter settings.
    Right-click Local Area Connection, and then click Properties.
    In the This connection uses the following items list, double-click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), click Advanced, and then click the WINS tab.
    Click Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP, and then click OK three times.

anyone here know what NetBIOS over TCP/IP actually does? and what effect it has being turned off?

thanks markofkane, I take it from what I read there, is that it is a sort of program/driver that allows me to connect to a server or another computer. I guess as long as I don't plan on connecting to my laptop I should be fine

I let my pc idle last night and Still no BSOD.  maybe disabling  NetBIOS over TCP/IP worked,  we will see how the day goes
