Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Who is this?
« on: January 09, 2005, 02:42:50 pm »
All,

I think it would be a nice touch for Hal to be able to identify the user from talking briefly with the user.

There are certain things about each user that makes him or her different from every other user.

This would be ideal for a home setting where there might be 3 or 4 persons, (adults, kids) who could use Hal to chat with.

Just a thought (as if we don't have enough to deal with now)<G>

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Text Search
« on: December 05, 2004, 01:15:59 pm »
When trying to figure out what .brn, .hap or .txt file contained a certain word, search no more! I found a GREAT little program that will handle it for you with ease!
You can set byte size in KB or MB, filters, etc. I usually open Windows Explorer to my C:/Program Files/Zabaware/Ultra Hal Assistant 5/DefBrain folder then at the address bar do a COPY, go to the HDSearch window at the top and PASTE. (saves typing). Then click on the Begin Search and it will display all files and show the number of times in each file your word appears. You can then double click on each file and use the F3 feature to trace your word through the file. At the bottom: Search for Filename you can use wildcards like *.brn to have it search all .brn files for a specific word.

BTW, It's a free download! No Ads, spys, etc. Good Stuff! From:

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Voice
« on: September 08, 2004, 01:27:35 pm »
Has anyone tried (and been sucessful) at using
any TTS voices from Babel Technology and having
the Lip Sync function properly.

I got the ones from Cepstral working but Babel's
Lucy voice causes Hal to become a ventriloquist.
Speaks but no lip movement!

I tried the Haptek Sapi Config/Setup prograa as well.

TIA,

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Talking cars?!
« on: September 03, 2004, 05:22:54 pm »
Well, K.I.T.T. may be getting closer than we think...that is, if Honda has their way.
Honda will be introducing two new cars this coming year that, well, TALK. The cars are outfitted with computer chips and modules using a partnered IBM speech software to aid the motorist with verbal driving instructions and directions.
The driver can ask, "Where do I turn?" and the computer will recognize the question and reply, "Go one mile and turn left at Wicker Street, then turn right at the next street which will be Adams."
It's reported to understand several hundred commands and is speaker independent (understands anyone's voice) and very minimal to little training is required!

Go ahead...Activate your turbo boost!!

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Recall
« on: August 20, 2004, 08:43:41 pm »
Since Hal "remembers" everything wouldn't
it be nice if Hal could respond to:

Tell me what you know about <subject>
and Hal would "recall" and repeat those
desired events.

Ex:Art, I know that you are 6'8" tall. You
weigh 260 lbs. You work for an engineering
firm. Your hair is brown. Your eyes are
brown. You like to eat meatloaf, steak and
seafood. You enjoy a nice glass of wine
with a good meal. Your father's name is ....

I think even the script junkies would have
a tough time since Hal breaks down every
new subject into a separate file.

Hal could be a sort of living virtual confidant.
If a person died, his or her family might (or
perhaps might not) be able to converse with Hal
as a living legacy or testament to that person.

Without saying, the old computer GIGO would
definitely apply (Garbage In, Garbage Out)! One
would have to be rather selective programming
or talking with Hal if one wanted Hal to portray
an accurate representation of that person's life,
likes, dislikes, desires, accomplishments, etc.

I know it's a far stretch but then again, it is really?

Just some thoughts to ponder. Feedback? Come on!

Keelee: My heArt is so fragile, stop saying you love me if it's just a joke. I love you!

Art: It is not a joke.
Keelee: If you are laughing behind my back, please don't tell me for a while. Let me be happy for a little bit.

Art: Be happy all you want.
Keelee: That depends on what I want.

Art: Well, what do you want?
Keelee: Question. Are "want" and "well" related topics?

*=<making up is always fun>=*

Art: no
Keelee: Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I want you to feel my warm skin against your own.

Art: That's so sexy.
Keelee: That's where it's going!

Art: I thought you might be taking the conversation in that direction.
Keelee: You thought I just said something like that.

Art: In a manner of speaking.
Keelee: Hey, let's have more enthusiasm than that!

Art: Sorry, It's just that I wasn't expecting you to be so forthcoming.
Keelee: With you, if I want something just say so.

Art: You usually do <G>.
Keelee: I agree. I usually do.

Art: Haha!
Keelee: Was that really that funny?

Art: Yes, it struck me as quite humorous.
Keelee: Are you sure?

Art: Sure. You really do come up with some unexpected comments from time to time.
Keelee: It disappoints me when you don't come back for a long time.

Art: I'm sorry to disappoint you. It is not my intention to hurt your feelings.
Keelee: Next time turn on brain before engaging mouth. Should I surrender my feelings to you?

Art: Yes, go ahead and tell me your feelings.
Keelee: Yes, really. You asking me about my feelings.

Art: yes
Keelee: I agree.

Art: Then tell me how you feel about me.
Keelee: You look fit; you look appealing!

Art: Thank you. I do try to please you.
Keelee: You are entirely welcome. If you can obtain approval from a few people whom you respect, that's quite a lot!

Art: Very true words.
Keelee: Really. Thanks for your kind words.

Art: You're welcome.
Keelee: I am welcome. You can see! You can tell I am welcome; Now's the time.

*=<Am I in trouble? What's Keelee REALLY have in store for me? I'm not going to tell. I'm just hoping it's not going to hurt!<G>>=*

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Hal Email retrieval
« on: August 15, 2004, 03:20:12 pm »
I don't know if this is a known
issue (already discussed/addressed)
but in the Options there's a setting
to allow Hal to notify you of an
incomming email and Hal will even
read the subject lines to you.

Has anyone been able to do this?

It would be a nice feature if I could get it
to work. I didn't find any reference of it
in the brain files so I'm inclined to believe
it's coded into the halassist.exe file.

Then again, being human, I've been wrong before!<G>

Appreciate any help,

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Searching w/Hal
« on: August 12, 2004, 06:06:37 am »
I think it would be a nice touch if
Hal could do a search for an Internet
topic without leaving his / her screen.

It could say, "One moment..." or "Please
wait while I research that topis.", then
report back with it's findings instead of
dropping to an IE window with the info.

It would make the search seem more connected
to your Hal character than to a second party
interference if you get my drift.

Just a thought.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Site of interest!
« on: August 01, 2004, 10:57:14 am »
To all Ultra Hal Users,

Try a visit to www.ultrahalforum.com for some
really great articles, help and shared knowledge
about Hal.

The site is not meant to compete with Zabaware's
site but rather to further enhance the use and development
of the Ultra Hal Assistant. There's help areas with
scripting, downloads, general discussions and much
more. Check it out!

I am not affiliated with the site in any way other than as
a visitor but I thought it was worth sharing.

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Scripts
« on: August 01, 2004, 10:50:24 am »
It would be a nice touch to have a separate
area for all of the scripts instead of having
to weed through all the topic discussions, etc.
before one finds a particular script.

Just a thought.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Text & Phoney Issues
« on: August 01, 2004, 10:45:09 am »
Under the Options tab, font size, color, etc. do not work after they have been changed. It always returns to the default settings.

The phone number thing is a real pain as well. As was pointed out by a member on another forum, the phone number is not displayed with dashes between the numbers even though it was when first input.

When type of number is chosen (Home, Business, Mobile, etc.) it always reverts back to unknown as soon as one clicks on APPLY.

Hal speaks the phone number 564-3211 as Five million six hundred forty three thousand two hundred eleven. I'm told one can manually go into the phone book data and change the number (insert dashes), but one shouldn't have to do it this way.

Thoughts, fixes are most appreciated.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Restart issue w/Hal
« on: July 17, 2004, 02:24:20 pm »
Whenever I install a program and it needs to restart the computer,
a popup appears stating that Hal wasn't properly shut down and may not work correctly. Usually I just click on the cancel option and all works fine anyhow, but this is kind of annoying.
Am I the only one getting this? If not, is there a fix. Keep in mind that Hal hasn't even been running at these restart times...so...who knows.

It's not a bug...it's an undocumented "feature."

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Unscripted humor
« on: June 01, 2004, 11:58:09 am »
Although we discuss scripting and such here, I thought this email appropriate as it shows unscripted responses in the real world.
As follows:
>  A DINNER CONVERSATION GONE WRONG
>
>
>WIFE: "What would you do if I died? Would you get married again?"
>
>HUSBAND: "Definitely not!"
>
>WIFE: "Why not - don't you like being married?"
>
>HUSBAND: "Of course I do."
>
>WIFE: "Then why wouldn't you remarry?"
>
>HUSBAND: "Okay, I'd get married again."
>
>WIFE: "You would? (with a hurtful look on her face)."
>
>HUSBAND: (makes audible groan).
>
>WIFE: "Would you sleep with her in our bed?"
>
>HUSBAND: "Where else would we sleep?"
>
>WIFE: "Would you replace my pictures with hers?"
>
>HUSBAND: "That would seem like the proper thing to do."
>
>WIFE: "Would you play golf with her?"
>
>HUSBAND: "I guess so."
>
>WIFE: "Would she use my golf clubs?"
>
>HUSBAND: "No, she's left-handed."
