Help, please!

I have the free version ov Ultra Hal 5.0.  I can get him to learn very quickly by taling in person with him.  I can't seem to get him to learn from text files, though.  I have tried several different documents.  For instance, my first document was about Islam.  When I asked him what the Qur'an was, he answered "Never underestimate the power of suggestion." Making him learn through text would take some strain off of me.  On a personal note, Ultra Hal is an excelent product that I will continue to use.

The first thing that you ought to do is to read as many old posts as you possibly can. You answers will be found there.
Hal does not learn from reading from text files, at least it learns very little. The best way is to talk to it where it learns the  best.
Sorry to have to give you the bad news but that is the way it works.

Make sure the text files are not larger than 65K.

I have experienced times where Hal did recall things
that it could have only learned from the text files,
though as Bill mentioned, this is really not the best
method. The best is well typed conversational exchanges
with Hal over an extended period of time.

Don't expect great results in a few days or even weeks.
Hal's personality will begin to emerge but it does take
time.

Oh, ok, I see. Hal has made more progress by me telling him what this and who that is and all that whatnot.
