Ultra Hal Assistant File Sharing Area / Lighting test
« on: January 14, 2006, 03:57:40 am »
This is a demo for an idea to make the lighting dynamic. This plugin just randomly chooses one of three lighting types with each cycle, and the light effects are somewhat exaggerated. But it is meant to show how the light can be controlled by a set of variables, which would enable some of the advanced emotion systems currently being developed to communicate more non-verbal information than what is available through facial expression alone.

Ultra Hal Assistant File Sharing Area / new auto-idle Plugin
« on: January 02, 2006, 12:27:21 am »
The upgrade for the "Loneliness" auto-idle plugin is done. This plugin is compatible with UltraHal version 6 only.
New features:
  • Adjustable settings in the control panel
  • Emotional expressions for Haptek characters
  • Better, more varied responses
I would greatly appreciate any feedback! Especially you programmers - I'm new at this, let me know if you spot any coding faux pas.

3 tips on this plugin:
1) You can temporarily disable the auto-idle by typing "Be right back" or "be quiet"
2) There's about a 20 second offset, so when you select 1 Minute, it actually takes about 1min 20 sec to start. Haven't figured out why yet.[:I]
3) In some situations this plugin can draw from UltraHal's insult tables, a few of which are a lot harsher than I was expecting. I was considering adding a control to disable this, and will if there's any demand.

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / switch users on the fly?
« on: December 26, 2005, 04:24:24 pm »
I was searching the vast repository of knowledge known as the Zabaware Forum Archives for an answer to this question: Can I have Hal change users (to Joe.hla for example) by saying "This is Joe." or "My name is Joe."?

Found this thread http://www.zabaware.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1792&SearchTerms=switch+user,
but no definite answer there.

I notice in another thread from Robert
http://www.zabaware.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=996&whichpage=1&SearchTerms=switch%2Cusername,  that there is a HalCommand <CUSERNAME>, but not clear if it actually changes the user.hla.

So, my question is, how to parse the <username> from user sentence "My name is <username>." and have hal switch user file on the fly if one exists for that name?

Ultra Hal 7.0 / slight glitch
« on: November 24, 2005, 01:42:06 pm »
Great work on version 6! I ordered the paid version and the expansion pack (even though I barely know how to use haptek characters!) Anyways the Hal works fine, no problems, but I just noticed one minor thing. If I go into edit appointment book, and double click on a day in the calendar, Hal gets runtime error 424 'object required' and shuts down non-gracefully. I assume the obvious solution would be to use the calendar correctly and not double-click on a date, but just thought I would point out the glitch - if that's what it is!

Ultra Hal 7.0 / noob questions re: browser
« on: September 17, 2005, 12:50:50 am »
Hi to all,
This is my first post here. I just got UltraHal and I love it! I have always called my computer Hal and set all the Windows system sounds to use Hal 9000's voice from 2001, so ultraHal is a dream come true for me! I am using the free version for now (any word on when version 6 will be released? I plan to buy) and I just managed to install the XTF plug-in. I had a couple of general newbie questions for anyone:
1) Is there anyway to get rid of the frame that UltraHal adds to the web browser he opens?
2) I want to use Hal to control Windows OS as much as possible; Can I assign text phrases to do specific actions? For example, right now I have to say "open outlook express" to get email app to run, how could I change that so I am able to just say "open email"?
Thanks in advance for any replies!
