I live by the sea too and love it.
Enjoy especially walking the beach at daybreak.

Back to subject on hand - This is about my 8th desktop in past 10 years.
And this one starting to complain.
Aware it can expire quickly I maintain a number of programs on memory sticks.
Memory sticks are handy, each can hold 1 GB of programs which you can update from time to time.
Invaluable should your computer bite the dust.

Are you implying now that your previous one's have all been destroyed by power surges? [:0]

None by power surges, all by me.

Bad habit on bikes and computers - to the limit and beyond.

Yes, it includes everything and it is not only me.
My friend, we are all afflicted and there is no cure.
The mystical unknown over the next hill beyond the far galaxy through the twilight zones beckons the souls of our restless botaddictive inquiring minds "to the limit and beyond"
