« on: October 06, 2020, 04:03:10 pm »
I can't launch the Brain Editor at all... I get the following Runtime Error: 2147221164 (80040154) Class Not Registered

Anyone have any ideas? Screenshot attached.

Sounds like the install didn't properly register the editor file(s). You might want to try reinstalling UltraHal again.

If you do, make sure you turn OFF any Anti-Virus, Anti-Malware software as it can be known to interfere. Shut down all other running (non-important) programs.

If all else fails, you can always use SQLite Studio to examine and edit the brain, but be careful. If you should mess it up, it's on you. Just saying...

Good luck.

I'll give a re-install another go... will that get rid of all of the learning done since it has been installed?

Ok, so I un-installed, shut off all firewalls, re-installed and the same problem still happens.  You mentioned SQLite Studio but I have no idea what that even is.  There are a lot of upgrades I want to do with this but I can't if I can't access the brain editor, any other ideas?

If you are using a 4k monitor it might not work for you. It's only designed for 1080p according to another member here.

If switching to another monitor doesn't work let us know.

You know, there IS a SEARCH feature on this forum that a lot of people just never bother to put to use.

I went out of my way to do some searches for you and post what I found. HAL was not originally designed nor built to be Self-Modifying for any and all possible configurations of processor, 32bit / 64 bit, GPUs, Monitors, etc.

Hal does need a little coaxing from time to time and there are many plugins available to give HAL more abilities.

I also mentioned that you might download and try SQLite Studio to view or edit HAL's database. Did you do a Search for it? Apparently not because you said you didn't know what it was. It is a Database Editor program and it is FREE. IF you just go traipsing around with it you might learn how it works. If you're not careful, you found Trash HAl's DB in a very bad way so it is wise for you to make a BACKUP of HAL's .db files BEFORE you decide to mess with SQLite Studio or Hal's Brain Editor.  I'm using HAL on my monitor with HAL 7, Windows 10 and an 1 TB SSD & 1 TB RAM. The Brain Editor and HAL and Haptek's characters all word just fine.

To each their own but I'm not HAL's designer or creator nor can I make HAL 4k compliant if that even is the crux of your issue. I was just reporting what I found from my searching. Use at your own discretion.

Good luck!

Ok dedi
Mr Art is very correct, while people have NO issues in some sort ah tech support here. Keep in mind the forum search engine is a mighty powerful tool robert put together for us.
You have 2 issues i can see:
Lets address them 1 at a time, first https://gofile.io/d/hdagFP
That is sqlite compressed with 7zip , just unpack and use the .exe
Once running point to hals Dbase and enjoy
Ok that covers your brain editor.

Issue 2:
Im researching ur Com class error
i suspect u have a 64 bit machine and the activeX is not in THAT registry, this is quite comon

Excellent info, thanks everyone!  One more thing... Hal listens whether the mic is on or off... it doesn't make a difference unless I physically shut off my mic on my headset.  But the mic on/off, on the Hal window doesn't seem to function?  Any thoughts on that?

Are you sure that maybe your Microphone for Windows is picking up your voice instead of UltraHal's Mic?

I can assure you that the MIC button on Hal's window works perfectly if you've enabled the Microphone in Windows.

In my opinion, there is something else picking up your voice.

I had the same issue after installing HAL 7 on a clean Windows 10 setup.

Fully removed it via Win-10 Apps Uninstall, rebooted and then installed HAL Version 6 after the required reboot HAL6 and V6 Brain Editor were both optimal.  Set the options in Hal6 NOT to auto load on boot and closed.

Reboot just to make it stick

After reboot I reinstalled Hal 7 and, of course, I rebooted... HAL7 doesn't require a reboot after install on my PC but I just wanted to be sure...

Gave both the Ver6 and Ver7 Brain Editor(s) a run and "praise the Gods of cyberspace" both version worked as expected.

Can't say why it worked or that it will work for everyone but, simply installing Ver6 fixed my setup.

Glad you were able to get things worked out.

Now might be the optimal time for you to consider making a Backup to an External device, just to be safe.

You can also try some of the many Plugins for Hal.
One piece of advice...just install/use one at a time. Reboot Hal and try it. If it works without any hiccups, then you can try adding a different Plugin.

This way you can easily identify any issue or incompatibility with a given plugin and simply uncheck it from Hal's Options Menu area.

I like the Read Story (of course you need to have several txt stories in a folder marked Story or stories.
The WeatherAlert5 is also quite a useful plugin as are the Gender & Age, MarkovL5, and Loneliness2.31 plugins.

There are many other good ones like the SALLIE and ConceptNet but those are a matter of preference. Make it your Hal!

Good luck!

If you are using a 4k monitor it might not work for you. It's only designed for 1080p according to another member here.

If switching to another monitor doesn't work let us know.

Success! My Hal 7 Brain Editor (v3.0.34) would spontaneously close every time I attempt to Load Existing Project > select an Open Brain Project > click Open . Editor would crash. Voila! - Changing display resolution to 1080p worked! Thanks Art!

Reverting right back to 4K spontaneously closed the editor during a session. ugh.

Oddly, reverting to 1080p I stepped up (for logging here the tipping point) but this time for some reason it the editor is still working.  :)
1920 x 1080 = ok
2048 x 1536 = ok
2560 x 1440 = ok
2560 x 1600 = ok
3840 x 2160 = ok
4096 x 2160 = ok

Fiddling for another day.
