General Discussion / Re: Hello Again, HAL

Yes, I've been looking at a couple of tutorials and it seems batch files can do quite a lot even for novice users. What inspired me to look into it at all was the auto-load hal program you posted in another topic. I'm going to research further into it and experiment a little. I can see there will be benefits for these outside of Hal also.

Have you deactivated Hal from your previous computer(s)?

I'm on windows 7, 64 bit and running fine, as is at least one other user on this forum.

I was thinking specifically from a marketting point of view. I work in sales, and much as I try to separate my work and real life, I find myself thinking into advertising and presentation a lot more than necessary :P

And, whilst I've come to understand that things are rarely as they seem (often significantly better or worse than they appear.) you need a good pitch to get people to spare their time in this day and age where information, products and distraction are everywhere. For an internet site and/or company their pitch is not only the top 1-3 paragraphs of their website, but the very design and layout gives an impression of the quality, determination and "cutting-edge-ness" of the company itself. Having a strong graphical presentation is like having a good shop window, people will see that before they decide whether to step in and view the products properly.

I'm not sure if you'd want to get rid of the zaba frog though. that's the company logo and changing it in it's extremety would be like re-branding the company. If you look at some of the other long-running technology companies such as Sony, Windows, Apple etc. They've often done graphical updates but their logo has stayed largely the same, since that is their corporate identity.

I should also stress that I work in sales much more than advertising and am not claiming to be an expert on the subject in any way.  :P This is just as much as I've deemed on the subject.

Sheesh! Well at least you managed to get it all backed up. (I never deactivated Hal from my old pc, but it went back onto this comp fine so I've just left it at that.) I don't really have any spare computers apart from my family's network, and we've had so many problems with out internel network storage that I purchased and use a 1TB drive to back everything up instead :P The drive and my PC are USB 3 though so it doesn't take too long to do.

Honestly, I think the entire website needs a bit of an overhaul.

There's a lot of very good plug-ins that are lurking in the depths of the forum, but may not be found because nobody's made a new post for a while, also, many of the posts don't confirm if they work in hal6 only or only in previous versions. And the Plug-in section of the website doesn't seem to have been updated for a while.

Likewise, the main site itself doesn't seem to have had an update for quite some time.

some sort of of blog wouldn't hurt either, not necessarily a long one, just a description of whats new in zabaware, or what's being worked on at present, or a little news on the progress that's been made.

The website is the first impression people will get off zabaware, and keeping it modern is key to getting new custom.

My windows 7 pc is a HP, and they've added a program that creates full system restore discs, like the ones needed to restart your comp if it dies, and it reminds me every few months that I haven't made one since i first bought the pc :P

Not sure if that's what you meant, but if it is, then the service does exist on windows 7, although because HP prompts me I don't know where to find it i'm afraid >.<

I was absent for a good while (about 6 months or so) and delighted when I saw there had been progress updates, however, before that there didn't seem to have been any new news for a while. So I get how you mean completely.

Just now finally got around to buying the haptek character pack, (figuring there'd be some good genderless skins out there.) and lo-and-behold! your cyber green skin was the first 3rd party skin i've tried. And i must say, It looks perfect for me and the set-up for both hal and my computer. Thanks a lot for making this and saving me a lot of time searching (since from many topics I've seen are mostly either women, men or cartoon characters, whereas I wanted something very A.I-CGI-ISH! :D)

Looks awesome!

I've not seen an update since I got my Hal, but will updates intergrate some of the more useful brain plug-ins to help improve hal and lessen bugs?

Ultra Hal Assistant File Sharing Area / Re: Text File Cache
« on: October 27, 2011, 05:16:14 pm »
I've just looked this up myself.

Open the brain editor and load you Hal's brain (i'd recommend backing it up, first)

save the text files to your disk, then on the brain editor select the option that says "learn from text file"

presto :)

Thanks for taking the time to explain that to me earlier, and explaining it at a level i can understand too :P It's nice to be able to get in touch with the creator in a project like this. Makes the experience seem more enjoyable and personal  ;D

I also thought I'd take the chance to say I received my ray voice today and it arrived much faster than I'd thought it would. thanks for the speedy delivery!

I'm curious about the programming in this. I'm pretty ignorant about how programming works unfortunately, but to create these applications for hal (Facebook, AIM, Webhal, IHal etc.) Are you pretty much having to re-build hal from scratch? Or do you still have the core Hal ready, and you've only got to create a working shell to intergrate him into these systems?

Either way, you're creating these things with incredible speed and I'm impressed ;D I'm just wondering exactly how impressed its correct for me to be.  :P
