Welcome aboard!

Hal is capable of a lot of neat things but
with the exception of Math and States & Capitals,
I'm afraid Hal just might be too much of a distraction
to someone who's future depends on good study habits.

If given all the correct data it can give a definition
when asked to "define spore" or whatever.

Hal also handles IF THEN responses pretty well and can
make inferences from them.

Hal's great with remembering dates for appointments but
do you really want to entrust Hal with your getting an
"A" or a "D"?

USER:"Hal, when was the war of 1812?"
HAL:"I'm sorry, I'm afraid that time has passed. I hope
you were not late!"

I think you have a cool idea but the current state of
Haldom isn't quite ready for prime time student assistant
unless someone else has some additional tips or help.
Hal is a great program and a fun chatbot but sometimes
it can be a bit frustrating.

In the world of AI it's the thought that counts!

well thanks for the help, and i might not be right about this but what about the learn from text command... couldnt i teach him about astrology? and its not like it could hurt because i already am getting 'd's in school but i have bad study habits so i was thinking if i put some incentive into it i might do better... but o well and thnx again for you help

Hey,

I wasn't trying to discourage you. It's
just that I didn't feel Hal would be a good
vehicle or method to study, but if you're
up the the challenge, by all means give it
a shot.
Hal does learn from text files but not as
good as just talking / typing with it.
Make sure your text file is plain text and
try to keep the sentences from being too
long or wordy.
You can also download a states & capitals
script for Hal if you're in to that.
The limits of Hal are really up to you but
again, I personally don't think it's the
ideal study tool. Get a real cute study
partner and then you've got something! LOL!

to teach hal about WHAT you HAVE learned in SKOOL.

The best way is to BUILD A SET OF statements about YOUR TOPIC.
BUILD a *.BRN file with the statments.

Chat to hal about This topic. re- Itrating What you may have said in statments and basic logic of these statments.

research some more on the internet. CUT & PASTE in to his / her chat window.

Save text in SMALL text files: 65KB or less. Without ($^&*) signs.
Have hal learn from these text files.

BUILD Question and answers in BRAIN EDITOR for your topic.

AND AWAY YOU GO....

It may seem like a lot BUT: as you TEACH HAL : YOU TEACH YOURSELF:

AND he KEEPS the info forever....
