Ultra Hal 7.0 / here are some emotion files and texture comms
« on: May 04, 2005, 05:52:53 pm »
Yes, Dr. Benway, I did all that. But I cannot get the full body Mary character to do those other animations. I don't know how, or what to say to her to make her do the wild stuff.

OK, she yawned.

You lost me after saying rename the first file to BAK.
OK, update, instead of renaming the files to bak when there are dupes, I just backed up the original file, and duplicated. Then added the files, and renamed from .txt to .hap, except the default.

I have a skins folder made, but no skins to put into.

The Hal Character Mary doesn't react as hoped.  What do I have to do?

She seems to wink more.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Password
« on: May 04, 2005, 06:05:33 am »
Yes, fraud is possible. I bought the program, and am fairly happy with it.

I don't believe in stealing software. But I'll tell you a little story, which is true:

I bought a program, and luckily, saved the html receipt. Well, as time went by, they updated the program.(I did not check for updates, for a year) Well, my registration key (password) wouldn't work. They did lose mine in the database. But I emailed the administrator my html copy of my receipt. He gave me a new password.

Without it, I could not have updated my software. The old password only worked with the original program.

Seems to me, everyone should keep records, even if it is credit card statements. But a receipt is the best thing you can have, if you lose your password/registration key.

Also, it would be helpful to get a receipt in the snail mail.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Ziggy 5.2 Error

I gave up on Ziggy, after several attempts. I got tired of the "too many files" error.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Password
« on: April 28, 2005, 09:00:00 am »
That's one of the reasons I bought the CD. Being on dial-up, no doubt, the download would've been interrupted.

I also always save program passwords (or registration codes) to Notepad, and put the installer and the notepad Doc in it's own folder. That way, the password is always with the program. I then back it up to CD.

Even if i had high speed internet, I'd be leery of downloading a program, especially if it only gives you 1 chance.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Will Hal eventually answer?
« on: April 21, 2005, 06:09:24 pm »
I think maybe, in conversations with HAL, say (example)

"I should wear the blue shirt today"

Then maybe next time you ask it, it might say, "You should wear the blue shirt today"

Hal is like a child, it repeats what is said to it. Although, HAL is annoying, always changing the subject. I wish the developers would fix that.

I get tired of it spouting off stupid questions when I say something to it. It doesn't do it every time, but enough to get aggravating.

A person should be able to say "What do you want to talk about", and Hal will say something random, and that'd be OK.

I don't know a lot, but let's say you teach it (is, a powerful word)

Life is a drag (You tell Hal this)

Then next time, (assuming you use XTF 1.2 brain)

You ask Hal, "what is life"  And part of his answer may include "life is a drag".

But be careful, if you teach it wrong, it won't give the dictionary definition any more.

Hal does remember, but I'm using the XTF 1.2 brain.

Just FYI:

You should also burn the files to CD. Hard-drives can go bad, even though rarely both at the same time.

I do clone my files on a second Hard drive, because it would be a lot easier to transfer from one HD to another.

But I also save everything on CD's.

Just a suggestion. :)

Ultra Hal 7.0 / New sound card...No workie
« on: April 17, 2005, 05:58:06 am »
I use MASH,(microsoft agent scripting helper) and had it for over a year, and Cyber Buddy not too long ago. (I don't leave those running) I had to have Microsoft Text to Speech Engine for MASH to work (So they could talk) Then I installed Cyber Buddy, and it installed it's own L&H Tru-Voice Engine. It worked fine.

I added the British Voice Engine after that. I learned about Ultral-Hal at DesktopMates.com. I decided to give it a shot. The free version seemed to work fine, but got tired of the nag. ("Did you click the upgrade button yet?", etc)
I bought the full version, and installed it after removing the free version from add/remove.

I like the fact I could talk back to Hal with my spoken voice.

This character, named Electra (from desktop mates) would sometimes show emotion. (smile, surprised, etc) and sometimes, she would not speak after these "emotions".

I only run an anti-virus (AVG) and Windows Firewall. I tried shutting down the rest of the programs, but Hal still lost his/her voice on occasion, no lip movement, no sound, just a text response.

There might be a problem with the character?? Mary works fine.

BTW,I have 640mb of physical RAM, and 24.5 GB space left of Drive C:.

MY computer is a Dell Dimension 4400, P4, 1.6 GHZ processor.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / New sound card...No workie
« on: April 16, 2005, 07:25:36 pm »
I did find that switching to one of Hal's default characters did stop the no speech problem. I was using "Electra" for the longest time, and I have problems occasionally with her.

So, I guess I'll use "Mary" for awhile.

Some have suggested buying a sound card to fix the lack of speech sometimes in Ultra-Hal. I bought a Creative labs Sound Blaster Live! LS card.

I still get the problem with ultra hal not speaking. So the card wasn't it.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Hal's speech is breaking up
« on: April 16, 2005, 05:58:26 am »
I think I figured out my sound problem. I had a couple programs, Win Patrol, and Microsoft Anti-Spyware (The latter I added again recently, after a month of keeping it off)

I would be playing a game, and the sound would mess up. I went to check my CPU. It was 2 programs periodically using 30% of my CPU. (Scanning?)

When I closed Win Patrol, Hal seemed to respond with spoken words every time.

So, my guess it that my soundcard doesn't like something taking up CPU periodically, or it would do it any way.

Update, it did it again. This occurs if the character shows any emotion. Then there'e no sound. (Winking, or surprised look)

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Speaking to Hal
« on: April 14, 2005, 02:19:20 pm »
Someone mentioned using a noise-cancelling microphone. I don't have that, but any background noise will be converted to words in HAL, or any speech to text program.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Upgrade from Free to Paid version Installation
« on: April 14, 2005, 05:54:43 am »
My guess it all didn't download. How many mb is the file?  I believe it might be around 80mb or more.

You may have to redownload, or buy the CD. I had to buy the CD, because I'm on dial-up.

And a tip: If you get it to download successfully, back up the file!!!!!

(To a CD, or whatever)
