Ultra Hal Assistant File Sharing Area / HalVisionX Beta

Just tried HalVision(XP)and it loaded and came onscreen on first attempt, but, I'm getting the "problem reading the .UserCom.txt file, you must select the Hal directory in the options menu or Engage the HalVisionX plug in". Manually choosing my directory is not resolving the problem, and there is no HalVisionX plug in appearing in my options panel or my directory. Anybody got any suggestions?

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Ultra Hal Assistant 6.2 Release Candidate 2
« on: February 02, 2009, 08:03:33 pm »
Has anyone noticed that the 6.2 UserSent table is substituting words (in the brain editor), when associated with he/him/his, that are resulting in some corrupted respnses. The text looks correct on the input side but Hal's saved text will have consistent substitutions for he/him/his.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Ultra Hal Assistant 6.2 Release Candidate 2

My 6.2cr2 still appears to have left my database behind in the upgrade. The four main tables are there now (and my Cepstral voice problem is fixed, thank you) but all of Hal's aquired knowledge is missing, the 6.2 Default brain and the 6.2 Upgraded Brain have the same information in them. Can I just manually incorporate my database copy fom 6.1 into the 6.2cr2?

I noticed an archive option this last time I reloaded and checked yes this time, my table folders are back now but my old database does not seem to have made the transition.

That is the steps I've taken too...the table folders are there but they are empty. Replacing the database with my functional 6.1 didn;t change anything, and those folders are definately full of things in my 6.1 brain. The only place the folders seem to be intact is in the new 6.2 (not the updated one), or in the 6.1, along with my Cepstral problem that I am currently sitting here working on.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Can't get speech to work!
« on: January 29, 2009, 05:55:09 pm »
I am having problems with my SAPI speech also. I have been using Cepstral Diane for a long time without trouble, but 6.2 creates two Cepstral Diane voices which seems to be conflicting since Hal shuts down when he tries to access speech responses.

Just installed 6.2 and am having trouble with my Cepstral voices. 6.1 worked normally, but 6.2 creates two SAPI 5 voices (one is Cepstral Dianne SAPI 5 and the other Cepstral Dianne 16khz 4.2.0 SAPI 5). Hal wants to use the Cepstral Dianne 16khz 4.2.0 by default and shuts down completely with the send error to microsoft screen. I also found that the conversion from 6.1 to 6.2 left Hal with several tables empty of his aquired knowledge (miscData, basicResponses, mainBrain, and autoLearningBrain are all empty). Anyone experience anything like this?

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / A.L.F Brain Download

Hi Jerry,
I was under the impression that if you purchase Hal and load onto a memory stick that you could move from machine to machine by deactivating and reactivating...am I wrong?[?]Daireaux

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Buying Hal
« on: July 05, 2006, 08:53:39 am »
Brendan,
You do not need to download again, Hal is fully functional in the trial version. Zabaware will send you registration numbers that will remove the 30 day trial with no change to the program itself.
The software works the same as a lot of other software these days (thanks to pirates) in that the software is yours just like any other program with the obvious copyright laws, but it has to be activated over the internet through Zabaware instead if just re-inputting your registration number. Once you register there is no time limitation but future releases from Zabaware itself have to be purchased. Many users in the forum generate inhancements that are free through the forum to download, Jerry (onthecuttingedge2005) has generated many major inhancements that let Hal control programs and computer functions...pretty neat.

It has been suggested that Hal works best when run from a memory stick (Read Jerry's post under General Dicussion...A memory stick for yor Hal) that allows you to use Hal on any computer.

One very important thing to remember with Hal is that he must be deactivated and reactivated through Zabaware when being moved from machine to machine or before anything like hard drive replacement (usually an instantaneous process). This option is in the general options panel. Many of us have had...less than desireable experiences trying to get Hal reactivated following a system crash, forum discussions indicate that having Hal on a memory stick helps since he is not actually loaded on any specific machine. Hal is also one machine specific, per user, so if you have multiple machines the memory stick also allows you to move him from machine to machine[;)]Daireaux

Ultra Hal 7.0 / learn from text file
« on: June 30, 2006, 09:14:02 pm »
Hal 6 learns from a more direct command structure than a menu. Open the brain editor from the general options panel and confirm that you have a Mapped Directories table in the brain that you are using.
To make Hal 6 learn:
1. Create yourself a folder on your drive to place the text files in that you want Hal to learn. We have found that Hal reacts negatively to some names so keep it generic like "Text Files". That folder is where you create the text file for Hal to learn (like Truth.txt).
2. Type Map Directory into Hal. He should prompt you through setting up the directory which should appear in the Mapped Directories table when done.
3. Type Learning on and Hal should say "Learning has Been turned on" if it is working correctly. The best indication that learning is on is that Hal will not stay minimized and keeps popping back up about once a minute, If this is a problem for you then you can type Learning off, Hal should say "Learning has been turned off" but remember that Hal will not learn with learning turned off.
4. Type Learn from the file Truth.txt and Hal should say "No problem, I will now open this file for you" and begin reading the file to you. Hal is storing the text in a LearnFromTextFile located in his main program file that he will sort over time (Jerry says this could take up to 24 hrs for a large file).[;)]Daireaux

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / A.L.F Brain Download

Hi Jerry,
Thanks a lot, that helped loads. Haven't heard anything back on the e-mail I sent you, but you can disregard it.
I've noticed something interesting (a good thing in the right application)with sense of time. With Hal's responses changed to a more docile response like "Hello" the sense of time function acts as a good idle mode because Hal does not apparently "learn" his next input, but instead makes a response from his sense of time responses and starts learning on the next input. It would be interesting to see what effect this would have on speech input from microphones since it adds a preliminary buffer where erroneous inputs don't get processed into memory. A typical action I'm noticing is like,
User: Hal
Hal: Yes?
User: Who was Einstein
Hal: Albert Einstein: primarily known for etc., etc., etc.
My initial "Hal" was not viewed as conversation, it acts as a prompt command to get Hal's attention and prepare him for processing.
