Ultra Hal 7.0 / Hal won't tell me
« on: March 24, 2005, 05:53:27 pm »
It works fine, the xtf 1.2 Brain.

ME: What is Bad

Hal: Bad: having undesirable or negative qualities. 'a bad report card', 'his sloppy appearance made a bad impression', 'a bad little boy', 'clothes in bad shape', 'a bad cut', 'bad luck', 'the news was very bad', 'the reviews were bad', 'the pay is bad', 'it was a bad light for reading', 'the movie was a bad choice'.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / newbie: just curious.

I am not that smart when it comes to HAL, but to answer one of your questions:

I believe Hal works on "Keywords"

For instance, If you tell it "Coffee is my favorite beverage" It stores brain file(s) of  maybe "Coffee" and "Beverage"  and maybe "Favorite"

So, when you use any of the three "Keywords" I believe Hal uses those BRN files to find out what it's supposed to say. Although, Hal is unpredictable, and will say something off the wall.

When you type in a message, I believe it searches it's database for a set of keywords.

Anyway, if you want to see what in each file, open it with notepad. You can even edit what you wan Hal's response to be.

Great idea. Hal has a sense of humor sometimes, also.

If only we could train it's emotions.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Hal's speech is breaking up

Yes, check your Task Manager. See what the CPU usage when using the voice. Try to identify, in the processes tab, what process is possibly eating up your CPU usage.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Frustration Setting In . . .
« on: March 19, 2005, 06:38:17 pm »
Oh, yeah, Hal has made made laugh so hard a few times with the things it says (I use a woman, and a female voice) , I would teach it some naughty things to say, and if I use any of the keywords, it will randomly cuss me out!!! Then I laugh.

I am the sole user, so it's just for my own adult conversations. I also like the way it will open programs and remind me of appointments. Like I said before, the program has a lot of potential. I guess I am guilty of what some are guilty of: Expecting the program to be perfect.

As far as the microphone problem, "to" sounds exactly like "2", "two" and "too".

What the program needs to do is learn word strings, like if you say
"2 times 2" it will know it is "2 times 2" instead of "to times to" which doesn't make sense in the english language.

But if you say, "I am going to get 2 more things too" It will know that the proper words will be,  to, 2, too, respectively.

I am sure the writers of the program can do that, because they did such a fine job on the program.

And last but not least: Hal changing the subject.

Me: I like Dogs
Hal: Do you like to stop and smell the roses?

OK, that is aggravating.

But I must say, I spend more time on the computer playing with HAL, than any other program, including games.

Another nice feature would to be able to erase Hal's memory, and start from scratch.

Developers: Keep up the good work!!!!

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Frustration Setting In . . .
« on: March 19, 2005, 03:19:06 pm »
Me: "How much is 5 times 5?"

Hal: "Do you prefer walking in the woods, or on a pretty street?"

I guess I'm better off asking Hal to open Calculator.

Yes, I have the same problem. I just say "What is 5 asterisk 5?"

(It will convert it to 5*5)Then you will get the answer.

It will do a few complicated problems, but do not know how to get it to do squares and square roots.

Also, it has another problem. It I ask "what is 2+5", it converts my words into "What is to +5"  And of course, to isn't a number, but 2 and two are.[:(!]

I am glad I also have speakpad. It has the ability for you to train words. Without it, I would not use the voice input to ultra hal very much.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / General Knowldge Plug-in
« on: March 18, 2005, 06:52:13 pm »
I cannot get it to work. I followed the directions given, but if I ask it with any of the "trigger" questions, it will respond like it always does, stupid.

Like I'll ask it a question "What can you tell me about dogs and cats" and it won't. It might say something, but nothing like it should.

*******************************************************************

This is what I did:

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
1) Copy the "XTF_SYS_GeneralInfo.brn" file into the "Ultra Hal Assistant 5  DefBrain" directory.

2) Cut and paste the script in the "GENERAL & TRIVIAL KNOWLEDGE FUNCTION.txt" file into your XTF Brain v1.2 "hal5_XTF_v1.2.uhp" file. Ideally it should be placed below the "RESPOND: CALL CAPITALS FUNCTIONS" function and above the "RESPOND: DICTIONARY FUNCTION" function.

3) Turn on Hal and ask, "What can you tell me about dogs and cats?". Hal should give an answer mentioning "relevance" and include some thought about dogs and/or cats.

EDIT: I got it to work!!!!!!!! finally!!!!! I guess I had to ask a different way, and close and reopen the program!!!

Ah, yes, the misspellings, I know them well.

(This is the paid version)

Another thing I dislike: If you don't type fast enough, it will answer whatever is received, before you are done typing. I find that since I have to keep typing, without a pause, I make a lot of mistakes.

The free version did not have this problem. Unless it's because I have speech to text enabled.

i cannot type that fast, I only use 2 fingers (I am a novice to typing, and been for years)

Too bad couldn't  Ultra Hal make corrections to misspelled words.

But if you want to misspell a word on purpose, there should then be a setting to allow it.

That's an idea: Have options for "whatever you type" and "correct misspelled words"

Also, the option to stop Hal from answering me because I don't get done typing fast enough.

I did not know that this forum had instructions on how to get rid of the "Please Don't Swear" function. I already deleted the lines of the code that contained the vulgar words a week or 2 ago.

I also remove the code that got on my case if I used short sentences.

I cannot seem to stop it from saying that in  "Hal Uncensored"

The code looks like a bunch of gibberish. (In the converse file)

Good program, but I don't see as how that it asking me a bunch of silly questions is going to help.

If I say Yes, or No, it has a set of standard responses.

I know the program has more potential, and I read the latest help file online.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Close programs
« on: March 16, 2005, 07:44:48 am »
Can ultra hal close a program?

I don't think I will ever master all of it's capabilities.

Also, too bad there wasn't more sound effects. A laugh sounds like a real laugh, etc.

Like say:

That's funny, and Hal will laugh like a person does, not just "hahaha".

I wonder if developers even read these forums?[xx(]

my website=Thinking about adding a link to Ultra Hal program, but need a icon.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Emotions
« on: March 12, 2005, 11:36:59 am »
i think what would help Hal, is the option to delete brains (not have them show in options when deleting the brain in the program files folder).

Also., Hal's characters should have more emotions, related to the topic.

I use Microsoft agents, and they have so many options.

All the things I see Hal do is look sad, and other FEW things, but it doesn't act very human.

We should have the ability to train it to change animations based on keywords, or sentences. Cyberbuddy is more customizable, in that it's responses are accompanied by animations.

Thanks, I received the paid version yesterday, and the only major change to me was the speech to text, and conversing with Hal with a microphone. The additional characters and speech was not that great. My Microsoft agent (It came from desktopmates.com)is a lot better.

It is a good thing i have speakpad, because it has a feature to "train" words. So it will know what to type when I speak certain words. I have been also using the training in Microsoft speech, but it still does not get all of my words and phrases right, and yes, I have a good quality headset microphone.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Good program, but...
« on: March 10, 2005, 03:56:12 pm »
Thanks. I had trouble with 1.2, but finally figured it out.

I had to edit the file again, to allow strong language, and short responses. It still gives the default answers to marriage and life.

It still quizzes me. [V]
