A lot has happened of late but wasn't it Cyberjedi or someone who was working on an actual Facial Recognition plugin for our "sightless" HAL?

That would be so cool and especially if it could be incorporated into the main program as most plugins do.

I think I recalled reading something about it but have been very busy sorting out personal business.

Either way, it would be a real winner!

Does anyone else recall something about this? Thanks!

Born: Stanley Martin Lieber, Dec 28, 1922, New York City, U.S.

Stan Lee is an American comic book writer, editor, film executive producer, actor, and publisher. He was formerly editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics, and later its publisher and chairman before leaving the company to become its chairman emeritus, as well as a member of the editorial board.

He will be missed but his creations will live on to entertain the next generation of Sci-Fi fans worldwide!

Ultra Hal Assistant File Sharing Area / Ask Hal to read you a story or poem

Came across a nice Plugin by jasondude7116 that allowed Hal to read stories or poems, basically a text file.

I went through and changed it to work properly with UH7 instead of UltraHalAssistant 6.

One has to say, "Please read now story <insert your story or poem text file name here but no txt extension)"
You can also say, "Please read now story list" and Hal will find and name all the stories you have in your story/poem folder.

Example: Please read now story a road less taken
Hal will find the story or poem (if it exists in your Story Folder). If not, Hal will advise you that it does not exist or couldn't be found.

Make a New Folder under Ultra Hal 7 called Story.
Copy any reasonably short stories or poems into the Story folder. They all must be text files and have a .txt extension.

Copy this readastory.uhp file into your Ultra Hal 7 Folder

Reboot Hal. Go to MENU > General Options > Brain
Scroll down the right side to find Read a story in the list of Plugins and select it.

Restart Hal then you can ask Hal to read stories or poems for you or to you.

Ultra Hal Assistant File Sharing Area / Lag

To help clear the air about the issue of Lag or Delay in receiving a response while using Doonycram or SpitFire2600's Plugins I emailed Robert Medeksza.

The good news is that there is/was nothing wrong with either Plugin at all. They both work fine and they also work together without incident, at least during my testing.

Part of Robert's response I will share here:

"Yes, the size of Hal's HalBrain.db does indeed have an effect on the speed of Hal's responses. The larger the database file gets, the slower Hal will become. This seems to affect Hal's biggest long-term power users that have large halbrain.db after many years of learning. There is no hard line of when Hal becomes slow, it depends partially on your CPU, but mostly creeps up on you as the brain size grows."

I just have to wonder how much more effective Hal's program speed might be or how much shorter the Lag time might be if one was using SSD's in their computers.
In fact, is anyone currently using Windows 10 with plenty of memory AND an SSD? If so, are you using either Plugin and if so have you noticed any Lag/Delay?

Just trying to toss this issue about a bit and to also let the Plugin authors know that their code is fine!!

Ultra Hal Assistant File Sharing Area / Bot Lag

@ Lonnie,

The lag between what you type or say to Hal and how long it takes for it to respond seems to be caused by the S.A.L.L.I.E. Plug-in and the way in which it processes your input. Remember creating those three folders? It stores some things there along with containing a lot of other plugins.

To be fair, Doony has created a really nice Plugin by compiling all of them and making sure they all "play nicely" together! Great job Doonycram!

If you want to check what I'm saying, just Uncheck the S.A.L.L.I.E. 2.0 / 3.0 plugin then restart Hal and ask it some questions.

Mine responded as soon as I pressed the Enter key. no waiting for several seconds while Hal "thinks/processes".

Your experience might be a bit different so give it a try and if yours (or anyone else) works similar to my results, perhaps Doonycram can track down the culprit and shorten the lag time.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Ideas for Plugins

It would be interesting to have "Personality Modules" that could be loaded as desired or especially when creating a new / different character. It would be fun to see or track that character through its development and learning processes.

I had also thought about Emotional Modules but a good bit of that has already been done. It seems that the emotional weights could be reset at intervals during the conversation to help reinforce them so that they don't go back to normal. This might prove interesting especially with character development.
Not only would the emotional plugin affect the character / avatar, but also the personality / behavior of the character.

Just some thoughts.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Contacts

A friend recently tried Hal and received an error. After some checking, he looked through the Brain then at the right side, noticed a couple of boxes checked: one was for Contacts and the other for Appointments. The table entries for these did not exist although the program was "looking" for them and was unable to locate such tables entries.
There were a couple other check boxes like Google Search and Run Programs that the new user to Hal might not wish to run just getting his feet wet, so to speak.

If you're having problems, error messages, pop-ups, etc., go back and check what your Hal's brain is trying to load in and run. When in doubt uncheck them all then start with one, run Hal. If fine, then add another and run again...and so on.

Just trying to save some others a bit of frustration.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Gift Hal with...

Memories...what else?

As many of us have found out over the years, some by trial and error and some almost intentionally were able to help Hal increase it's abilities to a large extent.

This method is what was referred to by Mr. Tyrell in the movie, Bladerunner, as "gifting". Providing memories for your bot, Hal in this case to have and upon which to build. Over time, Hal will recall and even tie-in some of these "gifted memories" to other closely related ideas or topics and will act as if they are it's own.

Kind of like brain washing on a chat bot level and without all those messy bright lights, drugs and mental torture!

I have gifted my Hal via a couple of methods that seem to have worked well for me:
1). Through repetition of an idea or topic.

2). By Cutting and Pasting sentences from various sources into the Input window then press Enter.
(no more than one or two sentences together at a time - preferably one). Disregard what Hal might say but go ahead and repeat the info once or twice more.

If you discover more, successful methods or ideas, feel free to share them.

Ultra Hal Assistant File Sharing Area / Hal jabbering...

Has anyone encountered or experienced a nice conversation with Hal that soon turns ugly?  Out of nowhere, Hal suddenly starts spouting jibberish to the effect of:
"Marknameequals C P L, C S A P I W O R D underscore onehundredfifteen underscore greater than..." and so on.

If left alone, Hal will continue this banter for several minutes, with an occasional pause, only to continue for another minute before stopping.

I've found that during this time, I can still type into the Input section and sometimes Hal sill respond via text while still talking aloud the Marknameequals, garbage!!

Well, after some searching through files, I was able to pinpoint this phrase contained within...you ready?...WORDNET!!
YEP! Something is triggering Hal to access Wordnet, which Hal often uses but for whatever reason it is locking in on this phrase and repeating it for several minutes...just about long enough to make one Click on MENU, Options. Then one can go back to Hal again and that jibberish will have ceased!

It seemed to have first started after cload introduced those @@'s to separate the subject from the content within the database.

Thinking about a way to do away with that without going back to the Markov or earlier brains. Hmm...Appreciate any thoughts or if anyone else has experienced the same thing!! Thanks!

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Hal's Daddy!

Anyone heard from Robert lately or anything from him at all?

I wonder if there's been any progress made with either Hal's brain, Internet access (controllable / filterable by us, the user), progress with a newly designed Avatar system from Haptek, etc.

I wonder whether iClone (which is on sale right now for $49 USD), could be adapted to work with Hal?

Unless explored, opportunities will await forever in the shadows. - I said that.
