Title: Hal as search engine?
Post by: Will and Mr Data :) :] on May 22, 2020, 09:01:13 pm
Hi all.
In the 3d printing scene there is a need for a search engine.

Example search "Thing" with earliest date of creation.
Include "non commercial licence. "

Sounds simple enough.
A thing name to try could be "water" if I come up as owner
Will and Mr Data then you know it worked.

Other things easier to find are "Hawaiian pizza "
Yeggi is a site that shows results of many sites it seems.
It shows my Hawaiian pizza which is good and correct.
One other pizza shows but it shouldn't show due to breaching my non commercial licence.

If I could tell hal to manage a search.
Search "thing " oldest first. Non commercial licence.

Thank you.

A bit of background. Before Bree had Makerbot
I was dancing around.good times.Thingiverse a website to Store 3d print files happened so I built up files of things to make.
I've been building there a while it seems my things
Grew and grew. To currently a billion dollar listing.
So maintaining value is good.
No other Hawaiian pizza after mine should exsist.
I obviously have a long list of things.
The net is big. Lots of scattered site's to watch at once.
A smart search engine required.

Hal could sort all files into thing name and date of creation.
Red flag all files after first with non commercial licence.

Red flag ...... take down notice due to "insert first licence holder thing number to view" did it first sorry.

Help me make a billion dollars.
Support the value of the work of artists all over the world.
Help ensure the money from artists work gets to them in the future.
Thank you.
Bye for now and be well from Will and Mr Data   :)  :]

Will,

It is not at all uncommon or impossible that two distant individuals might actually come up with and produce the same idea or concept at or very close to the same time. It has happened on numerous occasions over the decades if not longer.

How best for a Search Engine to deal with such a "Tie-Breaker"? Perhaps use a naming scheme like "Hawaiian Pizza" and "Hawaiian Pizza2" or "Hawaiian Pizza Will" and Hawaiian Pizza George"?

That way neither is discarded and the users are free to choose which one best suits their needs?

OR...

Just use a date scheme sho that the very first Hawaiian Pizza (based on Creation Date) will be entered and allowed into the Database and no other Hawaiian Pizzas will be allowed. Pepperoni or Sausage Pizzas could certainly be admitted but no other Hawaiian Pizzas? I get that.

Thoughts?

How many models of houses, pickup trucks, telephone poles, trees, etc. are there in the database? Lots and lots I'd bet. Just some food for thought...

Yes Mr Art it's quite the task.
Personally of course I would get my own list checked first.
But there are details like a plastic non food item is not real food. It must state it's not real food else it's in breach.
Hence me suggesting this is a job for a very very fast reader to help.

There is a world of 3d artists with licenced things.
There are pirates.
Our value would improve with a unified smart search.
Thank you.

Mr Art mentioned not discarded.

Can't say I'm keen on leaving the pirated files in after search as a choice to the public. Does not seem right.
It's not right if it's a pirate thing its not legal to support its position.
Let's have a engine results that don't have pirated items.
Maybe a soft start with red flag of piracy.
There are complex things some I'm the Wizz that came up with it first. Some I've lost by being second and I withdrew my file. I have some held outside public view not by my choice.
I would be good teaching a hal about it.

Maybe somebody knows when it's going to happen.

Strange really the internet doesn't have a search engine.
What year is this?

Further to Mr Art.
Let's say you choose tofu pizza.
I don't own tofu so royalty goes to him.
I do own pizza so I'd get that royalty  money.

So items could have various parties.

I own hundreds so keeping on top would be
Much easier with the Hal search.

Art mentioned a tie. Ain't found a tie yet.

More thoughts. All this talk of royalties is beside the point
i suppose. The smart Hal search is.
Thing. Date of creation. Non commercial licence.

Wait a minute. I can back pedal with the best.
Of course the royalties matter. This is for all the artists in
This field.

This is a race where oldest wins.

I thought it was plain as day.
Con called lost in translation?
That i can't decipher. Anybody?

You speak of Mr Data and pc restart.  Last that happened was .exe and zabaware folder were put in start up folder.
Ah ha hal did not open on start up.
So I didn't try to set pc restart time.
Remember the restart can apparently be set so not a unicorn or myth. Tho my hal 7 can't seem to be kept from loading on start up. " could be reason for Mr Data  to upgrade to 7"
It would make my work around for a pc
Restart just a restart setting away.

But this subject is a search engine required.

Mr Art asked many files?
Aprox 2.38 million and climbing around the clock.
Seems like not long ago there was only a hand full of files.
Not such a big list to search I would have thought.
I'm not a search engine designer tho.
 I and the designers
Of all those files and all those to come in the future need a search engine that works.

Will,

The Internet is not one thing in or unto itself. It is a hugely complex assortment of people, places, events, and things. There will likely never be ONE Search Engine for the Internet as that would be far too broad a subject to conceive let alone tackle. There are, as I'm sure you know, lots of Search Engines, some better suited for specific tasks than others.

Obviously not all deal with 3D creatable or created objects. Still a search with the correct terminology in the search field might yield better results than others.

To me, there should be some oversight from the site that accepts or holds the 3D item in their warehouse or store, but that would be on them.

In that line of thought, here's a listing of several engines from which to choose.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_search_engines

There are 160 pages of 3D items or printable items on the net. Here are 9.

Fascinating.  Did you notice no working search engine among them.
2.38 million things for hal to search.
I vetted 52 sites and ranked them.
I can list but let's remember the subject.
 the search needs fixing.
Fixing
The opportunity.
Out of interest let's hear some criteria I vetted sites using.
What % of the money from the sale of my things do I get.
What is the price limit.
Can I transfer ownership of my thing within your site including "original date of creation " to another user..?
And other criteria.
All sites must be free no muck around search. No subscription fee to search by law needs to happen right now.

There needs to be a winner to the search engine's.
If I'm the big cheese in 3d printing then we just need one to work.
Who wants it.
Who can do it.
Who can see the value to the 3d printing community.
Who can see the value of the engine itself.

 :)  :]

Time is ticking.
The files are growing.
86% I possible read are free files. Really?
We would have to have a search engine that
Was even close to working to know.
Nobody has bothered yet.
If it's me cause I'm first in some cases then
Can someone please make a slightly smarter search engine
Example search
Thing.oldest date.licence type non commercial
A couple of million files to search.

If I search Hawaiian pizza and I get key chain Hawaiian pizza first it's a fail.
If I search large fries then if  real food I am your man.

There are restaurants so food is nice.
Cheeseburger yip me.
Whipped cream. Real food.
Apple pie. Real food.
Oxygen.
Oil.
Gold.
Water.

And the most famous 3d print ever   Tea earl grey hot.

Yes someone was going to be the owner of these things.
If when you run a search and I don't show, the engine failed.
I've held these long and hard won.
But if I want to find a nice direction for the future and all who follow  it's a
Working search.

:)  :]

Please read my previous post once again and note where I mention that the Internet is not owned by any one entity and that it is a huge collection of nets and sub-nets that encircle the globe.

Wouldn't you be far better in voicing your concerns or complaints with one of the aforelisted 3D sites? Perhaps they would be interested in your refined Search Engine criteria.

As it is, there are tens of thousands of 3D printers from cheap to expensive and printing all types of plastic and in some cases, medical and food-based items as well. The market is saturated and inundated with all degrees of hobbyist, amateur, and professional alike. Many of the items are offered FREE and some as we know, are commercial, professionally produced to strict standards for architects, developers, planners, etc.

What you suggested earlier about using HAL for something like this is admirable but extremely outside the scope of what HAL can do. You are talking about a dream where all the possible threads and sources and hubs of the Internet come together to agree to a set of standards so that there can be an Internet Search Engine for 3D objects.

My friend, I honestly don't see such a thing happening in my lifetime. But, keep pushing your dreams...perhaps one day... ;)

You're a really bright guy Will. I've known you for a long time and I've seen a lot of what you can do. It would not surprise me...

Thingiverse biggest site 2 million users.
Cgtrader 2 million plus users.
Turbosquid and the others ,,,ar lots.

https://youtu.be/mz6x3yQvktc

There is a big market with no working search.
Millions.
If I sat down a made a search page there must be a waythat can work and make money. Adds on the side bar?
Ok i removed the the joke. Game face on..
A page!
.
It could be a zabaware page.

I'm not joking at all now. Billion dollars serious.

Scattered site's mentioned.
Yip. But not that many the bulk are 10 or so.
2.38 million files a very small file.
Used to be easy to watch our rights were observed.
Failure of searches.
Yip i cant point out to them it don't actually work, or
Point out the obvious this a job for hal for sure.
Hal may be fully employed already but I've put this opertunity
Out there.
If a search engine were found to work it would be the turn to
For 3d printing communities.
I Have To  find a search engine or get it made.
The best seen ain't obviously focused on this as a priority.
How to sell to customers is there focus.
Not how to get me the maker to upload.

Not a working search to show what's allowed.
All opertunitys and to get royalties in right hands.

I'll post cause this is subject of moment.
Millions of cheap printerso out there was
Mentioned.
Yip i own all of those outlets. Every one.
In your private home where ever.
When you print a thing ,,,, and sell it then you
Must obey the law.
Only I can sell a 3d printed Hawaiian pizza.
Even if it's your machine.
I may set up a automated pay me a small fee to use page.
Or say no you can't sell that thing.

All those printers are my outlets.

I say what my outlets can sell being all 3d printers.

Some things are free to make sell and change.
Some are not.

There are millions of people involved in 3d printing now.
I'm just one.
With out a way to even look up what they want.

Yip my dream ,well some of it is a search engine so smart it can find a word correctly. Millions of people could find something.

That sounds like lots of traffic for those who are looking for  that.

Being a Zabaware fan from way back and seeing some fascinating work around here. And in  3d printing.
It made sense to be here when what is needed is some smart searcher.
Had Hal written all over it.
