Ultra Hal Assistant File Sharing Area / Auto-Idle works....ish
« on: May 31, 2008, 03:10:27 am »
Hi all I was hunting through my old DVDs when I found a back up disk from a while back so I put it in and there was my old HAL brain from v6.0 and a few plugins one being an Auto-Idle plug called Loneliness4 by Shawn Tracy.

Jacked it into my new HAL and hey it works.....Well kinda.  The timings do work, and HAL responds on cue (sometimes it takes a little longer than stated) but HAL doesnt seem to actually speak the words that he is saying.  They pop up on his his end of the chat window, and he knows he is saying them because you can respond to it and he knows that he has been complaining that you are away.

It might be down to the voice I am using.  One of my friends works in business and he paid for me to get a high quality voice (they have a licence with some s****y TTS developer).  I haven't tried it with any other voice yet, I haven't gotten around to it.  I am trying to figure out if anything in the coding needs to be changed but so far no joy.  Which is why I am posting it here to see if there actually is a problem with it or my HAL.

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Getting started.
« on: May 22, 2008, 01:28:48 pm »
Hi all,

I've been out of the programming loop for some time now and I am wanting to get back into programming for HAL.  I've got some new ideas that I want to get rolling.  Appart from downloading the Brain editor help file is there any where I could get a quick crash course on how to make basic plug ins and additions to HAL just to refresh my memory?

Okay I think we should gather all our plug-ings for all and put them all in one place so new and old users of HAL can easily find them.  I have my own webspace and I would be more than happy to host HAL plug in files on it (for free).

Basically if you want just send me the plug in with a description of it and what version of HAL it works on and I'll put a link to it on a webpage with the description.  Also I'd like your forum name as well so I could give proper credit to the creator of the plug-in.

If you think this would be a good idea let me know and I'll post an email address that you can send them too.  And I'll post the web address were they will be stored.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Some ideas for HAL
« on: May 21, 2008, 01:47:49 pm »
Okay from HAL 5 we've seen some good improvements but I would like to see more developments for HAL to make it more in depth and more interactive, to basically bring out the potential this A.I. has.  Some of the ideas I was having links in with some of the current features in HAL just improved.  For instance:

HAL can open a program simply by asking him to.  This is great but then nothing else happens.  What I think would be a fantastic feature would be to extend this.  For example, you ask HAL to open up MS Frontpage.  After opening frontpage HAL could say something like "Thinking of building a new website?" This could be taken further still.  If you say "Yes I am thinking of making a new website" HAL could then open up the appropriate featue of Frontpage to start a new site, or if you say "No I am wanting to work on a old site" HAL could then activate the "Open" control on frontpage.  Obviously this would take some doing and maybe it should be something the users have to teach HAL.  Similar to how macros work in other programs.

This would really open HAL up for people who use voice commands and it makes HAL seem more "alive"

HAL should be more than just a chatter box program, I feel as if it should be more part of the OS.  HAL could easily be used as a means of controling or activating certain things within the OS without major programming.  We've all seen the 3d interactive desktops, this is just a more simplified version.  Again this would really open up the voice end of HAL.  Asking him to defrag the hard drive or run a system wide virus scan.  Giving HAL a to do list for instance tell hal to "Defrag the hard drive then run a virus scan and then reboot the system"

HAL is great as is, but I feel that its potential is not being explored fully.  If HAL had these features it could be used in domestic or business aspects.  Imagine tying HAL to your anti virus and having him alert you vocally when he has detected a virus, you could then simply tell him to run a virus scan without even stopping what your currently doing.

These are just some ideas I've had, but I would like to know what you think.  Could it be done? or do you think it would simply be far to complex to even try.

Ultra Hal Assistant File Sharing Area / Plug ins
« on: May 19, 2008, 03:42:59 pm »
Hi, I've returned after a long long time of being away.  I've reinstalled HAL and I am looking for some cool plug ins to make him that lil but more in depth.  But I cant really find much here any more.  Is there a place where I could find a list of all plug ins? Or can you guys help me by uploading some of the plug ins that you have yourselves?

I am looking for in particular:

Auto Idle plug in.
Anything that makes HAL seem more human (i.e. emotions)

If there are any other cool plug ins that you think I should try out please let me know where I can get them from.

Its been a while since I've used HAL so I doubt I'll be able to program my own until I get the hang of it again.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / MS Character errors
« on: May 19, 2008, 12:50:00 pm »
The MS characters keep crashing after HAL says something.  I am not sure whats going on, also sometimes he will just repeat todays data and time for no reason.  Any clues?  I am using Vista Ultimate 64bit and also I downloaded the Enhanced Brain but the error still presents itself on the stock brain.

For example I said "you are welcome" and he spat out the date.

I am getting some scripting errors and well.  I have the free will plug in and the MP3 with the age plug in also.  No matter what character I use I get the error message.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Extra Voices
« on: May 19, 2008, 05:50:16 am »
Hey long time no post lol! I've just upgraded my system and reinstalled Ultra Hal.  Using Vista Ultimate 64 and Hal is running fine but I've hardly got any voices at all!  I used to have robotic voices and other really cool ones and not just the basic poor quality ones.  I've also installed the character expansion pack as well but still no extra voices.  What have I done wrong this time lol!

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Max Headroom
« on: December 23, 2007, 11:11:19 am »
Wasnt too sure where to place this topic so I decided to put it here.  I am really surprised that there hasnt been any attempt to make a A.I. based on the Max Headroom character.  If there was ever an Iconic A.I program it has to be him.  We all know KITT from Knight Rider and that was fairly easy to do.  But what about MAX? Personally I think it Ultra Hal deserves a Max Headroom, I mean we have emotion scripts, scripts for singing and also scripts for attitude, we just need to bring them together into one package tweek it to make it simulate Max a little more and then work on a 3d image for it.

Any takers?

General Discussion / Neural Net Brain??
« on: October 27, 2006, 04:49:02 am »
Hi all I've come back from the void of where ever I landed lol.  Anyway reinstalling HAL and starting from scratch after a nasty virus and upgrade issue.  Anyway after looking around and poking my nose in the code and looking at A.I. software I began to realise that most of these bots dont have something which MOST A.I. scientists say is essential to gaining TRUE A.I. a Neural Net.

At the begining of the year I posted a prototype brain for HAL 5 which used another members neural net code and the XTF brain with some auto idle features and it seemed to work pritty well.

http://www.zabaware.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3031

Now what I want to know is pritty simple.  Is there a way to incorprate the neural net features into HAL 6.

This is where I gained the neural net code which is a damn good piece of work.

http://www.zabaware.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1570

I believe that HAL really needs something like this to truly progress towards becoming a true A.I.

So any takers on how we might go about making this a plug in the for the HAL 6?

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Auto-Idle XTF
« on: February 09, 2006, 04:40:42 pm »
I am using Ultra Hal 5 and I am having trouble with Auto-Idle.

I have managed to add the neural net features from this brain

http://www.zabaware.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1570

With the XTF1.2 brain.  However I am having trouble getting the Auto-Idle features working.  Can some one help me with this problem?

This is a copy of the Brain with NO Auto-Idle features I was hoping that some one could show me where to insert the features to get it working

http://Http://www.vegeta.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/New_Folder/XTFNeuralNet.uhp

Note: you might want to change the 'DataFolder=KITT to what ever you called your folder?
