Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Extended File Assistant (E.F.A)

I have downloaded the file from your website and I have been messing around with the features all seems okay except when I try and get KITT (HAL) to learn from a text file, all he seems to do is display all the text on the HAL screen and when I ask him about something I know is in the file he doesnt seem to know the answer.  Maybe I am just doing it wrong but can you help a guy out? lol

Related to knight rider there are a few guys out there making a KITT simulator.  Now we all know that Ultra Hal can be made to look like KITT and its probably way better than this simulator but what got my attention (which is why I am posting it here) apparently this CAN use a web cam as an EYE in what they called surveillance mode.

About the surveillance mode:
There will be a motion detection, so if you have a webcam, KITT can also SEE what's going on, and if there is
something weird happening KITT wil ask who's there... And takes a picture.
If no one answers, KITT will record a video.
When you're back, you can look back at the Video
and you can see who the intruder was!

Me and ART are currently on the look out for a face rec program that uses a web cam and with a little hope one that does not cost the earth.  Then the hard part will start, finding a way to give HAL the ability to use the software.  But so far we have only found programs that are so-so or cost over $400.

There is a program out there which isnt too expensive it is similar to ultra hal assistant, in the book keeping areas such as emails and phone numbers and running other programs.  Which I think did have  face rec abilities just no A.I

Okay cool so you get 4 activations.  Thats pritty cool and good to know.  I'll just have to remember to deactivate hal when i come to format my pc lol.

Hi Let me explain what I wanna do, When I had ultra hal 5 I used to transfer the brain folder between my laptop and pc (some times I am on my laptop more than my pc).  I was wanting to know what files I would need to copy over to be able to keep doing this?

I see there is an option to help hal pronounce words, I have used this a few times to help him say words like Osiris, yet even though I have corrected it using the pronounciation tool he still says it incorrectly any clues to whats going on here?

I just upgraded to hal 6 and I keep getting an error report when I use loneliness plug in

lol yes permissions are fun lol.  But I seriously think it is something to look into if we can get hal to use the webcam as an EYE rather than a camera.

well actually Its a IT teaching degree but one of the subjects in it is A.I. I used my copy of ultra hal to demo the ideas behind A.I. and how it could benefit education.

But I really think it is worth looking into making HAL use a web cam as an EYE not a camera.  By simple taking a picture when the user says something.  You could do this say every 10 or 20 inputs so HAL makes sure he is still talking to that one user and they havn't switched on him (It would depend if it slows hal down much if thre is no slow down you could do it every input).  I know it might not benefit the actual intelligance of HAL but it would be a start into making it more useful.  A smart A.I. which can see who it is talking to makes it that little more "REAL" the users.  I think it would make it a little more personal in the interaction between the user and the A.I. (atleast from the users end)

There are systems out there that can already do this which use neural net software to help it adapt, learn and help the computer understand who it is talking too.

As you have posted you can get hal to use a webcam to take pictures.  So it is possible to adapt this so hal uses the webcam as a EYE instead of a camera.  It would be a complex process but not impossible I think it is worth looking at.  The Japanese have small robots which can do this already the small R2D2 like robots can look at a human and know who this is!

It does this by comparing it to a stored photo of the user.  When setting the robot up the user looks into the EYE (camera) and it takes a photo.  Then when the robot looks at some one it compares this face it is seeing to stored photos to find out who that person is.  When it does not know a person it takes a photo and asks who this person is and then stores the image to future reference.  It is possible to make hal do the same.

Maybe something basic to start with hal stores a photo.  When a user says something Hal takes a photo and checks it with stored photos in the database and calls the user by the name of that photo (which would be the user name) if there is no stored image hal could ask "hello I am (insert hal name here) who are you?" and then hal takes a photo after the reply and stores it for later use.
