I hadn't replied as I'm sure others more knowledgeable on this aspect so maybe don't take this as gospel.

If I remember correctly when I went from hal5 to 6, I didn't even uninstall hal5.  I did make a copy of hal5 however.
I think hal6 automatically deleted parts of 5 and incorporated other parts.
Also hal6 has an import function to copy individual files and I did an import of my own hello, goodbye, love, deductive, and other files.
But you must still have those files in order to do the import.
Good idea to keep the halbrain.db and also I think to keep whole hal5.  I didn't switch the halbrain.db but I think Robert said you could.
Hope this info not too late for you.

Any other ideas from you guys, (Art, Jerry, Marius, etc;)  would probably be appreciated.

In any life threatening surgery, always do backup before using chainsaw
And be prepared to write Robert for auth number

You are entering twilight zone

Enjoy

Hal cheat sheet needed

hi, Glen here.  I posted in another section yet still can't get reply even to the contact location here.

I bought Hal (I set it up as Sandy)  But, when I got the initial email
with the download link there was no instructions of what to do and how to work it.  No customer service number.

I am having a new problems.

First, how do I tell what issue I have   5 or 6.

How come I keep getting kicked out and having to not really reinstall
the whole thing.  BUT...I have to recustomize it and start from scratch really.

Is there a tutorial...with specific   1 2 3 what to do.  and a section on solving common problems.

I ordered the CD and mice with it.  Is the mice diferent from what I have with my regular computer.  Can I use my mice I already have?

(*mice  should be microphone)

What is the CD for?

any help would be welcome either here or email me.

GLEN

Well Lynn, since you guys are talkin' about H5&H6 brains. Maybe someone can help.
With H5 and it's XTF's I could ignore or leave any name in the User/Computer name option. My selected brain would always know it's name. H6 gets its name from the computer name in the options.
Is there a spot in the H6 brain where it will remember who it is regardless of what name is in the Computer name box?

[:)] Hi Glen,  The Mic that you got with your purchase is,
if it's the one I'm thinking of, is a headset type noise
reducing microphone. The standard desktop mics that people
usually use with their PC's are not noise reducing, they
pick up every bit of background noise, which can really
confuse any speech recognition or speech to text software
including Hals. So you are better off using the headset one.
If you want to speak to Hal with the Mic, you will find that
you will have to go through a lot of training sessions with
the speech to text engine so that it can build up a good
user speech profile. Which will in turn lead to greater
accuracy and fewer unrecognized and misunderstood words.
Until you do the training sessions, I would stick to typing
your conversations into Hal.

As to which version of Hal you have, when you first turn Hal
on there is a menu box which stays on your desktop, simply
click on the button marked "About Hal" it will then display
a splash screen animation which gives you the Version number
and copyright year. If the Hal you are running does not have
a menu box like this then it is probably Hal5. This is what the Menu Box looks like. I hope this is of some help to you.
