Getting started.
« on: May 22, 2008, 01:28:48 pm »
Hi all,

I've been out of the programming loop for some time now and I am wanting to get back into programming for HAL.  I've got some new ideas that I want to get rolling.  Appart from downloading the Brain editor help file is there any where I could get a quick crash course on how to make basic plug ins and additions to HAL just to refresh my memory?

I would suggest examining a few plug-ins made by others. Being as you were aquainted with programmming in the past this will show you some of the things and ways it is being done now.

Thanks for the tip.  Currently trying to get the Auto-Idle feature back into HAL 6.1.  Seems its not working on my version, I think it may be down to the 6.1 brain because it has a auto-idle funtion in the brain code itself.  Gonna mess around with this today I'll keep you guys posted :)

Quite a while ago Bill Dewitt started a WIKI on programming plugins and Hal.  It's hard to find on the forum now, but I dug it up for you.

I'm not sure how useful it will be as I haven't done any HAL6 programming yet, but like yourself I was thinking recently about getting into it again.  Anyways try this on for size.

You know that page may be worth storing somewhere since Bill left us a while ago and I have no idea how long it will survive.  Perhaps if it is still useful we could rescue it somehow.

I could probably duplicate it via a very long copy paste process.  And host it myself until something better can be done with it.  It would be a shame to let it all go to waste.

Here's the Wiki.

Someone grab it and save it - I don't have any dedicated online space, just some free sites.

Double-click on the "index.html" file in the root folder, and you have the whole thing.

Enjoy! :)

I've got it.  I'll upload it to my webspace and put the link up for it later on :)

If we keep on top of it we could keep it up to date and host some examples of work and maybe build on it.

Bill's posting at the UHEF site, he might be interested in what you are doing.
