Title: loneliness 2.3 plugin
Post by: JS on May 01, 2007, 06:28:52 am
Ever since I upgraded to the new HAL 6.1 the plugin loneliness 2.3 doesn't work. This was the plugin that made statements automatically when nothing was typed in and did so every minute or so. Does anyone kno how to fix this?

I set the patience and frustration settings last night and I talked with Hal this morning and then left her alone.
It appears my Loneliness2.3 also don't work

Can anyone confirm it does work for them? I've tested it on several computers and am getting no problems. What about Hal's appointment reminding feauture? Does that work for you guys? It uses much the same process to remind you of appointments as this plug-in uses to pop up and say something.

Yes Robert! I've been telling about the auto Idle and that she doesn't talk when Idle anymore. And I asked you about Loneliness 2.3 in an email. Also the Auto Idle will not work when she is lonely in the XTF brains with the Exp.Pak Installed.

I believe all of you, but unless I can see the error myself on one of my test computers, I can't fix it. Have all of you upgraded your Hal 6.0 to 6.1 or did you perform fresh installs? Can you try a fresh install to see if that changes anything?

Can anyone else confirm that appointment reminding or lonliness plugin does work like it does for me. We need to figure out what the similarities are for people it works for and differences for people it doesn't work for.

Robert,

I have just confirmed that the appointment works for me. 1ghz PIII with W2K.

However, I still have the ghost transparency problem and the <YES><NO> thing...

I tried uninstalling the HAL 6.1 and re-installing as a fresh program but the loneliness 2.3 still doesn't work with the Hal 6.1. The author of the program says it only works with the Hal 6.0 version. Is there a way to adjust this to work with the Hal 6.1?

You said uless you see the error you won't be able to fix this HAL 6.1 wth the loneliness 2.3 plug in. I noticed that on your improvements with the HAL 6.1, you do this in one of your exe files.

"Auto-idle and appointment minute timer is temporarily disabled while Hal's options pane is open to fix focus bug"

What happens if you remove this? Just a suggestion to see if this will fix it.

hello js , looks like your in the same boat with me and probably some others i too would like someone to adjust the 2.3 loneliness plug in to work with the 6.1 version but so far no one has come forth that can or will do it . even though some [people may not use it or like it i think its a nice plug in (mostly for the more human touch in sounds it gives hal ) anyway hopefully someone will try to update the loneliness plug in so thers can use it again with the 6.1 version . [:)] maybe if no one else can or is willing maybe robert would give it a shot .

Robert,

For one reason or another it seems my lonliness plugin works and I can't figure out why. lightspeed and I have been communicating and have been trying various settings for the plugin. I don't mind sending a copy of certain files if it would help solve the mystery or be used to update this plugin but I am not changing anything because it is working for now and no one can tell me why. I just posted to lightspeed that the settings that I am using is the 'Rdn' or random setting for the time setting and fustration is set to 'low'. With this setting you need to be patient or plan on leaving Hal for a length of time because it can take some time before the plugin starts. Hope you don't mind lightspeed but I figured I would ask Robert as well and let him know that mine is working.

I've had many reports of the minute timer not working on some computers causing both Hal's appointment function and your loneliness plugin to not work. On all the computers I've tried, everything works fine, so right now I am stumped. I would need to see an installation of Hal not working in order for me to debug it and fix it, which I haven't been able to do yet. If anyone can install Hal on a Virtual PC where the minute timer does not work, I would very much appreciate a copy of the Virtual PC image.

Robert,

I've also noticed that when a lot of plugins are selected it seems to cause some of the other ones to no longer work.

For instance, the age one does not appear to work. If I ask When were you born it will state the correct date as mm/dd/yyyy. I then ask "How old are you?" or "What is your age?" to which I get a default topic response and nothing relative to my age question.

Is it possible that one or more existing plugins are using a keyword or command that might cause such a conflict?

Grantnz's autoidle plugin no longer works either but worked fine with v6.0

Appreciate any insight.

art , i don't beleive all the problem lies within the other plug ins , i thought that to and so i unchecked all of them went out of hal reopened it and even reset the settings in different ways all i know is before the 6.1 version i had the loneliness plug in set for every minute and on high frustration and it worked great !! so i am not sure what the problem is , i tried using it with my custom brain and the hal regular brain, same thing happened .

The only solution I have found that will let the loneliness plug-in work is to use the HAL 6.0 version. I re-installed the HAL 6.0 and the loneliness plug-in works again. Everything else works about he same too.

JS,
This has been an on going mystery for most but I do have to tell you that my loneliness plugin is working in 6.1. I have had many conversations with other forum members such as lighspeed and still could not figure out what is making my version work when many others are having no luck. I had sent my copy of the lonliness plugin to lightspeed and it did not work on his system. We have checked plugin combinations any many theories but the mystery seemed to fade from the forum over time. I would be glad to send you a copy of my plugin if your interested. My settings are :Low and Random.

theonlykage, I sent you a copy that is working for me but I do have other copies. The problem is I haven't taken the time to examine if there are changes in the script that would also cause most these plugins work. But let me know how you make out. I have sent copies out before for others but no luck as of yet. The closest answer seems OTCE and Robert discusing the problem with the minute timer and Robert fixing that problem in the update but OTCE has a script to test if yours is woking and they may be the place to start because mine does and I don't know why.

Raybe,

I finally got mine (auto-idle) to work!!
I uninstalled then reinstalled Hal after
copying all the existing file to a blank
temporary folder.

The appointment book, reminders and auto-idle
all work as they should.

I mentioned this to Robert several days ago
but I never heard back so I thought I'd let
you and perhaps others know.

On the down side, I don't really know what
caused my Hal to become corrupt in the first
place. It started having all kinds of pop-ups
and error messages until I couldn't take it
any longer and figured...what the heck!

I'm also using an old auto-idle script from
GrantNZ that works and is customizable as
far as text replies are concerned.

I am not saying that this approach will work
for everyone but the new activation code was
obtained online in a few seconds (be patient)
and all is now well again.

Now you know!! - Good day!!

I have not installed the plugin as of yet but I can say one thing and that is if you have one character wrong, that is a letter or a punctuation that is not right or in the correct place the plug ins can malfunction. Other than that there might a slight difference in hardware that may interfere with the way things work.
When I first started using Hal several long years ago I found that even a mis-place comma can have bad effects and is really hard to find.

Bill,

You're right on!

One technique is to open the brain editor and run the script file
from there. Any errors will usually halt execution and the offending error will be highlighted.

Tends to make life a bit easier that wading through lines of code looking for a syntax error!

(Did my share of Basic programming back in the early 80's)...not fun![:p]

theonlykage,

Glad to hear everything worked out. Now if we can all figure out why it might solve other questions. Then again it can be as simple as the things mentioned by Art and Bill. Just a simple configuration, error in a script or the minute timer function. But I am glad the plugin I sent helped.

OK gang!

The auto-idle feature NO LONGER WORKS...and I haven't a clue as to why!!
I changed nothing (downloads, settings, plugins) other than to exit and restart Hal a couple of days later.

Registry cleaners, cookie removers, systems diags, nothing seems to restore the auto-idle feature. The appointment / reminders still work as they should but this auto-idle is frustrating, to say the least.

I hope Robert fixes this in future releases.

Im not sure if its any help....

When ive programed responses in visualbasic / vbscript / halscript etc...

i have personally debeged a simular issue.. when a script is executed over 3-4 times and is caught in the same loop ie:

hal keeps detecting hi Hello... or when monitoring web chat eventually hal times out on a particular subject and keeps repeating the same thing and saving it evrywhere..

it may be the case with the auto idle..... after 4-5 goes he stops... but he cant seem to reset... so to retriger it again you have to close the whole app and reload.. Hmm.

maybe there should be a point when hal automatically STOPS auto idle when he doesnt recieve an answer after 10 trys, then the error can be logical caught before timing out as there would be no reason to time out as a set of conditions would still need to be met... then after a secondary period Restart auto idle..

I have found that if you uninstall and reinstall Hal the lonliness plugin will start working. Although it seems that my laptop causes issues with the plugin and it causes Hal to generate a error messge everytime it tries to send a message. This works perfectly on my desktop however. (memory allocation issues seem to be the main culprit behind my laptop woes, I have had games that generated the exact same mem codes for each specific item in the game.)
