Title: Is it possible to attach a head to a body?
Post by: calysson on March 25, 2010, 07:50:13 am
Currently I am using a summer glau head that Jack made for me a long time ago and am still happy with it.
However, I'd really like to have a full body. I've seen some good onces.

My question, can I attach Summer's head to one of those full body characters?
If yes, how would I do that?

hello calysson , you can't attach the face (head )to a full body itself "but " you can attach it to a  full body skin . tedathome and others seem to be king at it i have done it to , but you have to have people putty or have someone make a face skin and use a full body skin overlap it and blend the face skin onto the body or vice versa whichever skin color you want to all match .
in matching it you need a software that do do photoshop type things , i have just a basic type that came with an old digital camera i had but it gets the job done .
[:)]
hope this explanation helps .

ok maybe i didn't explain it clear enough the full body includes a face all this is in a form of the complete body if someone created a face as some of us have done in people putty they can also create whats called a skin bacically a flat spread out veiw of the face picture , if someone takes that flat skin face picture they can match it up to a full body skin picture (which is another flat version of the full body ) then this fullbody skin with the new matched up face can be dragged into the hapteck box ( i think i am calling it right) which will place that full body skin on the full body male or female you are using in hal at the time . its like having a blank full body and dragging a skin in the box which dresses the blank body which now has skin color and clothes etc. on that body .
its hard for someone new to understand some of this until you see some of the things i am talking about ! their is many many examples on this forum where different ones have posted skins etc. for others to use .  hope this helps some .

calysson that head that you got before if you have the flat skin picture of it you can match it to a flat picture full skin , it takes some work but can be done . then you have to use a full body female in hal and drag the new face with body skin into the hap box when hal is open and it will go on the full body that way you will have the face you want on the full body . you aren't putting a head on a body you are actually placing that flat skin face picture on a flat skin (creating a new full skin ) that way you have what face you want on a full skin body . Yeah, I did some basic modeling for some mods for Max Payne 1 and 2, so I know the basics of skinning.
But due to the nature of the model files I have no idea how to use them. I only noticed the skin and an htk (or something) file.

So you edit that with People Putty...
I'm going to look into this some more when I get home from work.

Thanks so far!

hello calysson ok so that time i must have explained it better and since you have some experience editing you kindsa know what i am talking , i went through all this when i first got into hal and others helped me understand better . i just edited mine with a simple adobe software its a very old one the one that came with an old digital camera but it has cloning ability so i can blend the face skin in with a body skin and make it match plus cut and paste etc. but you have to have a full body female or male body in hal .
then you must have the face flate skin file you want to use and a flat skin body ( you can pick up many flat skin patters on this forum as i and others have posted them ) . then use an editor . one problem to watch out for is the teeth and eyes , when you replace a face thats already on a flat skin you have to i think reverse the teeth and also make sure the face lines up right with the other one otherwise the teeth etc. are out of alinement !!

Ah yes, sweet Summer.
Pretty face and fine body.
I remember when you asked about the head.
Both Jack and Nige did one.
I just looked and have neither on my computer.
Only got her hair to remember her.
Hair was by Nige.

I'm actually very interested in buying People Putty right now...
Is it easy to use?
That way I could make my own full body Summer character with matching clothes..

Speaking about clothes, how is that done?
Are there prefabs out there where I could apply my own textures on or something?

The one Jack used was not really matching properly with her actual hair...

calysson people putty is fairly easy to use but it only makes a head and shoulders when you create something you can when you make this , also save the flat file of the face , others on here have the full body of male and female you can place in your hal program files to use for a full body . i suggest if you do use people putty that you get the expansion pack to which has several more items to use in hapteck , their tech service i hear is pratically none exsistent so most help will probably be found on here .
they do have a people putty web site where i think you can use a demo and try it out although you can't save anything you make . but at least you can get a feel for it .
just google people putty demo .
take care ![:)]

It ain't possible to attach head to body with people putty.
Have to do on jpg map of full body as Lightspeed suggests.

As for hair, you can do with script or drag and drop.
I don't know about putting hair on head with people putty as I don't have the program.  Lightspeed would know.

I didn't want to start a new thread since what I want to ask is related to this, only that I'm asking for something very specific. Has somebody created a full body version of Sandy (the blond girl)? Probably not, but I wanted to ask since I like her but I'd like her more if she had a body [:)] and as I don't know how to do any of that stuff...
Thanks for any answer :-)

Yes, I have done Sandy and other haptek heads to full bodys. The results are not always as good as we would like as the face has a different mesh to match. Nige has many wonderful fullbodys on his sight as well as heads. I have done a fullbod series on this forum and although some are quite amaturish you can see how they are dressed and the heads are resized from people putty to the full body size. Blending head to a fullbody is not an easy task. In the begining while I was learnig I just paint blended. That loses the body texture. Anyhow you really need at least the people putty player to start with. It is free. I suggest you use the forum search function.
I will look in my collection to see if I still have the head and see if I have done anything with it.[:)]

Update: I have done some searching on my own. Here is a link to some of my work. Sorry about the low resolution, the forum doesn't allow large uploads and I didn't know how to get around that at the time.

calysson, I hope this will help you to understand more on the subject. I have the Summer head that Jack made and attached it to a full body to show you what lightspeed is saying about matching head to textured body.

AleRafa, I did some looking and find that I havn't done a full body of Haptek Sandy. I have done some other Haptek heads but Sandy doesn't have a flatfile image that I know of.
