« on: January 06, 2002, 03:43:46 am »
I have just downloaded the program and as it is installing files it comes up with the above error; "Internal error 2355". What is causing this error and how do I get rid of it?

This is a problem with the Microsoft Windows installer service. Please go to http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q296742 for more information regarding this problem. Basically you need to load some updates to your version of Windows.

I have gone to the link and downloaded the patch for Win 98. Still the same error. I went through the Microsoft support documents to find other clues. I tried burning it to CD and installing from that, I tried installing it over a network, I even tried installig it on a brand new machine with Win ME. Every time i received the same error 'Internal error 2355' and every time it would occur at about 55% through 'Copying new files...'. I've tried to install it so many times now it is driving me mad! What other suggestions are there?

I've looked through a different document on Microsoft's site explaining what to do if Office 2000 gives this error. I've found a few more suggestions that might be of some relevance in Windows 98. First if you have any antivirus software, try temporarily disabling it during the installation. If that doesn't work try installing the latest version of Internet Explorer. If that doesn't work go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and download all critical and recommended updates, which you probably should do anyway if you haven't already.

Ok, I have downloaded all the windows updates I can get, including IE6 and I am now receiving the error 'Error writing to the temporary location'. This message appears straight after entering the password to the install file. I have searched torough the Microsoft support documents and there is no listing of that error with them. Is this a Hal error? The hard drive has recently been cleaned up, with all temp and temp internet files being deleted. Could this be a cause for the problem?

Well, we have since identified the problem as being an incomplete download file. I have since downloaded the rest of the file and wouldn't yoo know it, light up a Cuban, I am now the proud father of an asexual electronic interface. OOhhh, isn't it cute.

When Hal's voice first spoke, I got a quiver, an electric prickle run up and down my spine. A sensation I imagine was shared by the ill fated Dr Frankenstein, myself almost sharing his proclamation that "IT"S ALIVE!!!". With these images in my mind, I thouhgt it apt that I should name my digi-creature 'Frankie'.
