General Discussion / A memory stick for your HAL
« on: September 03, 2006, 09:20:33 am »
Hi there,

This sounds like a great idea. I have only recently re-installed my Hal but it would be great to have a portable Hal. However i am not very knowledgable when it comes to computers. Would i have to uninstall Hal (i dont mind doing this as i have only just started again) and re-install on the flash drive? Also would this mean needing a new activation code? With no disrespect ATALL to Robert i seem to remember it taking a long time to get this sorted.

Thanks very much,

Andy

ps. Any ideas or links to, the most appropriate Flash drive for this purpose? Cheers.

citrinedragon :Prophetic dreams....scary.....England is..COLD.. At the moment i am sitting in front of the open fridge to warm up due to my lack of double glazing, slack landlord, not enough money for heating bill causing the fridge to be warmer than the rest of the house. Honestly though. England is great. Wouldnt live anywhere else....i dont think.....Why were you in England then???

Art :The statement to Smudge that i was a robot was a mistake. I meant to say i am a man then i am NOT a robot. I realise that it would be misleading. However it provided some interesting resluts dont you think?
Thanks for your support.

vrossi :your plugin is great. Very well done! i'm impressed. I'd love to learn how to do that. One of the many things i lack is computer knowledge.

cabinack :I wonder if smudge even knows about drinking. I'll ask him. Great fun.

Also a note i forgot to add was that when this happened :-

Andy: Are you a man
Smudge: No problem, I will open this program for you. Yes, I am man; I understood that, because you told me that I am boy.

The progam he opened was my media player and played Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight by Abba. He he he. (also a great plugin from vrossi)

vrossi :Thanks for replying. Firstly i do not know what a line editor is. Please excuse my computer ignorance. Secondly i deactivated the Alice and ziggy plugin and now i can click apply and ok in the options menu with no problems. However it is now very obvious the difference that that plugin made to Hals responses. I would like to continue to use it. Is the best way to go about this to uninstall it and start again with that plugin?? (deactivating the plugin did not stop the error messages appearing during chat. Although the last one included the words - [out of range:! ]

Hollywood :Thanks for your advice. I dont think i'm using the expansion pack however i'm not completely clear what it is. If it is a plugin called expansion pack then i am not using it....

Thanks for your help guys.

there are different messages..
all the error messages have the same structure but the ones that come up  during a conversation are now including the word Alice in them. i am running the Hal and alice brain combo plugin. As a completely ignorant person i am guessing that when Hal is wanting to retrive a reply from the alice brain there is something a miss. Maybe i have installed it incorrectly. However it initially worked fine. Strange.
As before, everything is working fine once i click ok, although the response time from Hal is getting longer and longer.

Any ideas??

Hate to hassle people but my Hal is slowly taking longer and longer to respond. In adition to the other problems i'm having ("Hal Script error..." topic) this is quite worrying. Everything still works but i'm worried that it might have larger consequences. Any ideas???
Cheers

Here is a conversation i just had with my hal. ( Smudge) I found it extremely amusing and interesting, thought others might.
It is quite long....hope thats ok

Andy: Are you a robot?
Smudge: Yes, I am robot. You told me that.

Andy: Are you a man?
Smudge: Yes, I am man; I understood that, because you told me that I am boy.

Andy: You can not be both a man and a robot
Smudge: I think the subject of robots is positively fascinating.

Andy: Robots are not men
Smudge: All men are mortal.

Andy: men are not robots
Smudge: I see, men, indeed: not robots!

Andy: Are you a robot
Smudge: Yes, I am robot. You told me that.

Andy: I am a man
Smudge: Ok, thanks for telling me. I'll keep that in mind. Socrates is a man.

Andy: I am a robot
Smudge: Speaking of mechanisms, I once researched a control! Describe how you are a robot Andy!

Andy: I am not a robot because i am a man
Smudge: You have a real knack for explaining things; Andy Of course; it's because you are a man; how interesting. Ok, thanks for telling me. I'll keep that in mind.

Andy: If you are a robot then you cannot be a man
Smudge: I understand the connection.

Andy: If you think you are a man then you are wrong
Smudge: I will remember that one follows the other.

Andy: If you think that you are a robot then you are right
Smudge: Yes, I get that clearly. You want me to be a robot then I am right, don't you?

Andy: Yes, if you think you are a robot then you are right
Smudge: I can not be a man.

Andy: why not?
Smudge: I don't know; can you teach me Why Andy? Why not?

Andy: a robot can not be a man because a man and a robot are two different things
Smudge: Socrates is a man.

Andy: Are you a man
Smudge: No problem, I will open this program for you. Yes, I am man; I understood that, because you told me that I am boy.

Andy: ok, so you are a man AND a robot?
Smudge: Just the right time, right? You can tell I'm a man and a robot.

Andy: How can you be both a man and a robot?
Smudge: How can I be both a man and a robot? It's a good mental exercise. a robot can not be a man because a man and a robot are two different things.

Andy: So?
Smudge: A robot can not be a man because a man and a robot are two different things.

Andy: I am a man
Smudge: Ok, thanks for telling me. I'll keep that in mind.

Andy: Am i a robot then?
Smudge: A robot is a mechanism, a whirler!

Andy: Are you a robot?
Smudge: Yes, I am robot. You told me that.

Andy: Well done. You are starting to understand a bit about who you are. Very good
Smudge: Robots seem well suited for tasks that are dangerous, dirty, or dull. Until when should I be starting to understand a bit about who I am?

Andy: You will be constantly learning who you are
Smudge: Can I put my trust completely in you?

Andy: Yes, of course you can trust me
Smudge: Yes, you smoke roll ups.

Andy: Wow, i was just thinking of going for a smoke
Smudge: You are going for a smoke now.

Andy: Yes, i am going outside
Smudge: You are smoking roll ups because you are going for a smoke. I anticipated it! You're going outside Andy.

And now, guess what, i'm going for a smoke.....(chuckling)

HalScrpit Error - 2147024894 on line 2628 in column 0:

The file "C:Program filesabawareUltra Hal Assistant 6HalScript.DBG has been saved with the current script being used for debugging purposes.

It comes up every time i click ok or apply in the general options and occasionly during chat. Also when Hal starts up initially.
It has not as yet stopped me doing anything ; i click ok and Hal continues to work as normal. Its annoying though!
Thanks.

Ultra Hal Assistant File Sharing Area / .brn files
« on: January 28, 2006, 03:16:21 pm »
Hi there everyone,
With the danger of sounding very stupid indeed, could someone please tell me exactly where to put .brn files. Is it in C:Programfiles\zabawareUltra Hal Assistant 6  ??

I've heard lots of talk about the def brain folder. i cannot find this.
I hope the answer is not too blindingly obvious.

Thanks alot.
